The Detroit Lions visit the Carolina Panthers in Week 4 of the 2026 NFL regular season Sunday night at Bank of America Stadium. Detroit enters 2-1, while Carolina is 1-2.
Kickoff is set for 8:20 PM ET on NBC, with Universo also carrying the game.
Dan Campbell’s Lions bounced back from their Week 2 loss at Buffalo by beating the New York Jets 31-24 at Ford Field. Detroit has scored exactly 31 points in each of its first three games.
Detroit has apparently settled on 31 points every week. Accounting departments appreciate consistency.
The Lions now get their second road test after allowing 41 points in their first one.
Dave Canales and Carolina return home after a 21-18 loss at Cleveland. The Panthers had 360 yards of offense in the defeat and enter their first Sunday Night Football home game in 11 years with several important lineup changes.

The opening odds make Detroit a road favorite. The Lions opened -199 on the moneyline, with Carolina returning +165.
Detroit is laying 3.5 points, while the opening total is 50.5.
The Lions’ Week 3 victory over New York featured another productive afternoon from Jahmyr Gibbs.
He rushed for 99 yards and two TD’s while adding seven catches for 65 yards and another score. Detroit needed all of it before a late defensive takeaway finally ended the Jets’ comeback attempt.
Carolina nearly stole one in Cleveland.
The Panthers trailed 10-3 at halftime, eventually moved ahead 18-13 and then surrendered the deciding TD late in the fourth quarter. Bryce Young threw for 291 yards and a TD.
The most recent regular-season meeting between these teams came in October 2023, when Detroit won 42-24 at Ford Field.
Their other 2023 meeting was a preseason game. That’s useful for remembering who wore which uniform, not much else.

Panthers Stats From Last Week
Carolina has produced 1,178 yards of offense through three games, the second-highest three-game opening total in franchise history.
The passing game has driven much of that production.
Young has thrown for 939 yards and seven TD’s, while Jalen Coker leads Carolina with 222 receiving yards. Tetairoa McMillan has added 193 yards, and Darren Waller has caught two TD passes.
The problem is how quickly Carolina’s depth chart has started collecting damage.
Starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are on injured reserve. Wide receiver Xavier Legette has now joined them on IR, while left guard Damien Lewis is out Sunday night.
Coker is questionable with a quadriceps injury.
Right tackle Monroe Freeling, defensive tackle Cam Jackson and defensive tackle Lee Hunter are also questionable. Bryce Young has no game designation after appearing on the injury report earlier in the week with a knee issue.
It’s Week 4 and Carolina is already testing the definition of “next man up.”
Lions Stats From Last Week
Detroit’s offense has been remarkably consistent on the scoreboard, reaching 31 points in all three games.
Gibbs has been a major part of it.
The fourth-year back has 307 rushing yards and four TD’s on the season, along with 156 receiving yards and two more scores.
Detroit has also been getting after opposing QB’s.
The Lions have 12 sacks through three games, with four coming against New York. Chuck Clark’s strip-sack in the final minute ended the Jets’ last possession and secured the win.
Detroit enters Sunday night with a considerably shorter injury list than Carolina.
Offensive lineman Ben Bartch is out with a foot injury, while cornerback D.J. Reed is questionable with a rib injury. EDGE DJ Wonnum practiced fully after missing Wednesday and carries no game designation.
Lions vs. Panthers QB Matchup
Jared Goff has opened the season about as cleanly as Dan Campbell could ask.
The Detroit QB has completed 77 of 109 passes for 802 yards, eight TD’s and no interceptions. He’s completing better than 70% of his attempts through three games.
Goff threw for 269 yards and two TD’s against the Jets.
More importantly, he made it through a third consecutive game without an interception. Detroit hasn’t spent September asking its QB to clean up mistakes he created himself.

Young presents a different challenge for Detroit.
The Carolina QB has 939 passing yards with seven TD’s and two interceptions. He’s already completed 13 passes of at least 20 yards despite completing less than 60% of his attempts overall.
Young was much quieter against Cleveland than those season totals suggest.
He completed 26 of 48 passes for 291 yards with one TD and one interception. Detroit’s secondary has already allowed a 300-yard passer this season, so Carolina has reason to keep throwing.
Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers bottom line: Goff has been the more efficient QB through three weeks, while Young gives Carolina enough downfield ability to make Detroit’s second road test worth watching.

The Panthers are thin in too many important spots, particularly up front and in the secondary. That’s a rough way to enter a game against an opponent capable of beating you on the ground or through the air.
The Panthers need a clean night. Detroit has enough weapons to make clean nights difficult to find.
That’s the difference I’m willing to lay 3.5 points on.
Detroit doesn’t need one specific game script to cover this number. If the Lions get control early, they can make Carolina chase; if it stays tight, they have enough ways to create the possession that finally puts the game outside a field goal.
I’m not asking for a Sunday night demolition.
Give me Lions -3.5.
