4* Free Week 1 NFL Betting Prediction: Indianapolis +5
I like the Colts as home underdogs, and I believe there’s value on the spread.
The Lawrence vs. Richardson matchup marks an exciting start to the year. The Colts are introducing their first-round pick into the mix, bolstering their already youthful offense featuring Zack Moss, Michael Pittman Jr., and Alec Pierce. It’s a call to action for these young talents to step up their game in the absence of Taylor.
I believe this game will be more closely contested than most anticipate, primarily due to the strength of the Colts’ defense. Their familiarity with the Jaguars’ offensive strategies means there won’t be many surprises. I also have reservations about the Jags offensive line.
I expect Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley to have his unit well-prepared for Week 1. While I don’t expect Richardson to reach Cam Newton’s level just yet, I do think he has the potential to surprise.
The preseason performance of the Colts doesn’t carry much weight in my assessment. I foresee this game staying competitive, with Indy keeping it close.
Their current odds are +5, and I’m placing my bet at this number.
