The Matt LaFleur era kicks off in Green Bay on Thursday and it’s possible that 39-year-old coach could be on the hot seat in his very first year at the helm of the Packers. Wins do a lot for job security and preseason or not expect Green Bay to feed off the Lambeau crowd.

The Texans have big expectations for the 2019 campaign (if healthy) and coach Bill O’Brien has proven as of late that he doesn’t take these exhibition games for granted. The Texans went 4-0 in the preseason in 2016 and were 3-1 last season.
Houston Texans
The Colts are 5/7 to win the AFC South in 2019 but with injury issues already plaguing Andrew Luck it could be easy money on the Texans at 4/1. Of course, Houston’s success depends on Deshaun Watson playing another 16 game season as he did in ’18.
The Texans do have a capable backup this season in A.J. McCarron and he could see major reps in Thursday’s preseason opener. Green Bay did retain Mike Pettine who was their 2018 defensive coordinator so McCarron will be up against a unit familiar with a system. Joe Webb will also get some snaps for Houston.

Houston ranked 12th last year in yards/game on defense but it would be dumb to play key cogs in that unit such as J.J. Watt, Whitney Mercilus, and Jadaveon Clowney in Thursday’s game. Houston doesn’t have a lot of big names behind their 1st unit.
Green Bay Packers
What can the hometown fans expect out of LaFleur in his team debut? Aaron Rodgers threw a grand total of 4 passes in the 2018 preseason so don’t expect a lot of the former MVP in this one. Green Bay still has Deshone Kizer to call the signals in the exhibition and he has starting experience with Cleveland.
Green Bay does lack star power outside of Rodgers but that could actually help them in regards to preseason ATS success. Top end RB’s Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams could always benefit from early reps and the Packers WR depth chart is wide open behind Devante Adams.

There are also some changes on the defensive side of the ball for Green Bay, most notably the loss of Clay Matthews to the Rams and the recent release of Mike Daniels. There’s not a whole lot of separation between the 1st and 2nd string units on the Green Bay defense which could once again help them in preseason betting.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Packers -2
Green Bay fans are antsy and the last thing new coach LaFleur wants to do is start off his tenure with a loss. O’Brien and Houston have been solid in the preseaon in 2 of the last 3 years but their main priority is staying healthy in this one.
NFL Free Preseason Score Prediction: Packers 26 – Texans 12
LaFleur is going to attack this game like a regular season, especially in his head coaching debut and in front of the Lambeau faithful.
