A week after looking so, so good against Miami, Detroit dropped a total stinker at home against Seattle, getting doubled up 28–14.
Minnesota lost, too, but to one of the toughest opponents going in New Orleans. The Saints offense didn’t skip a beat in Minnesota against what was supposed to be a stingy Vikings’ defense.
Usually, winning a football game involves controlling the line of scrimmage and then making things work from there. On Sunday, Seattle controlled the line, running the ball all over Detroit and stuffing the Lions’ rushing attack a week after it ran for more yards than it has since Barry Sanders was the tailback.
The Lions showed off their newest acquisition, defensive lineman Damon Harrison, from the New York Giants. Harrison made seven tackles, including a sack and two others for a loss. He was all over the field but the rest of the Lions defense reminded everybody watching why it was so desperate for an upgrade.
Chris Carson ran all over the defense, twenty-five times for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Russell Wilson took care of the rest through the air, once his Seahawks had established the running game.
The ‘Hawks’ plan on defense was clear: not let the Lions’ running game get going like it had a week ago. Matt Stafford and the offense was good but it wasn’t enough. Stafford finished 27-for-40 for 310 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Marvin Jones Jr.
Striking a better run/pass balance seems to be critical to the Lions’ offense, but perhaps the running game is only as good as the opposing defense allows it to be.
Minnesota dropped another disappointing game to a good opponent, 30–20 in favor of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
The Vikings’ offense kept up for a while, Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen each had big games (again), catching passes from Kirk Cousins, who threw for over 350 yards.
The defense wasn’t bad, either. The Saints scored thirty points but seven of them came on a pick-six against Cousins. Minnesota’s defense kept Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara in check, though Kamara scored twice, once threw the air and another time on the ground.
That’s really just an indication of how good New Orleans’ offense is. Detroit’s is pretty darn good, too but it’s just a shade less dominant. The offensive line isn’t quite as good and Stafford is more prone to the sack/turnover than Drew Brees is.
And the Vikings should manage more than twenty points in this matchup. This game calls for all sorts of points in a relatively competitive Minnesota win.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Vikings by a touchdown.
Minny needs this one. I’m just a little concerned that this team appears frustrated. There’s a lot of football left to be played and this is still a contender, if it can improve between now and December.
