The Detroit Lions will be on the road to face off with the Dallas Cowboys in the early window on Sunday afternoon.
Detroit comes into this ball game with a record of 1-4 and they desperately need to win a game, although that does not seem very likely in this game here.
Dallas sits at 4-2 yet they find themselves in third place in the NFC East with both the Eagles and Giants ahead of them at the present time. Needless to say, they cannot afford to slip up here against an opponent of this caliber.
In this spot, the Cowboys opened as a 6.5-point favorite and that number is now up to 7 in most places. So far, there has not been any movement from the total of 47.5.
Detroit Lions
I do not know how much it is really going to help, but the Lions really needed the buy week after their abysmal performance against the Patriots in the previous week.
Heading into that game, we kept hearing how good the offense for Detroit was and they were ranked as the #1 offensive unit in football. Well, clearly Bill Belichick and the New England defense took it personally as they pitched a shutout against them while scheming a plan to make Goff and his weapons look clueless out there.
For a supposed explosive offense, they looked lost in that game which ultimately ended in a 29-0 beatdown by the Pats. It was poor execution after poor execution combined with terrible coaching which is really more of the same for this franchise.
Something that was certainly frustrating for Detroit in this one is the fact that they did move the ball effectively at times and actually were in Patriots’ territory on multiple occasions, but they were unable to do anything with those opportunities.
Defensively, they allowed rookie Bailey Zappe to be efficient and effective out there and they had absolutely no answers for Rhamondre Stevenson who picked up 161 yards on 25 carries.
They clearly knew their opponent was going to the run ball often and they still could not stop them which is certainly very concerning. It is hard to imagine them having different results in their run defense as the season goes on when they face more tough running backs.
This team can try and say all they want about how the culture has changed and how this year is different, but the bottom line is this is still a very undisciplined football team that is often ill-prepared which will likely put them on a path to once again being irrelevant when the season is over.
Even with a week off, things do not all of sudden get easier when they play a very tough Cowboys team on the road who are expected to get Dak Prescott back out there.
The biggest concern that I would have if I were a Lions fan is the opposing defense they will be facing on Sunday. Dallas has all sorts of playmakers on the field and I would expect them to be much sharper against Goff & co after they did not play their best against the Eagles.
If this team has reasonable opportunities to go for it on fourth down in this game, they have got to do a better job than they did in their last game when they went 0/6 on that down. They also were not that good on third down as they went just 4/12 which just cannot happen when they face Dallas if they want at least some shot at being competitive.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys dropped to 4-2 on the season with a 26-17 loss at the hands of the Eagles on Sunday Night Football. It was certainly a frustrating loss for this team, but it really was not all that surprising.
Even though the final score might not indicate that it was a blowout, it was pretty clear that Philadelphia was in control of that game from start to finish despite not playing all that well in the second half of the game.
Of course, the matchup a lot of us were all ready to see was the Dallas defense vs. the Eagles offense and it was hard not to be impressed once again by what the home team was able to do.
Jalen Hurts finished the night going 15/25 for 155 yards with two touchdown passes. He did not have the kinds of stats that jump off the page, but I thought he was calm and in control throughout the game and did a solid job navigating through a very tough and talented defense.
Look, the defense for the Cowboys played well at times and they clearly were able to make some adjustments in the second half, but they did not play their best on that side of the ball in a game where they needed to be carried by their defense.
Given the kind of team he was going to be facing, it was understood that Cooper Rush was really going to have to step up and make some big throws and not just be a game manager which he was simply unable to do.
He played well in their previous games, but when he had to go against a team with that sort of talent and speed on defense, he just did not have what it took to execute which is why this Cowboys team really needs Dak back and healthy starting on Sunday.
After playing the best team in football, Dallas gets a very winnable home game on Sunday against this Detroit team and it is one they absolutely must take care of business in.
If Dallas is really on their game, they should be able to expose their opponent in multiple ways by taking advantage of a vulnerable defense while imposing their will on a quarterback that does not do well when the pocket begins to beak down.
No matter who they face off with, though, one thing that cannot happen is committing 10 penalties which they did against the Eagles. Those are the sorts of things that are totally deflating for a team and they can and will cost them when facing off with a worthy opponent.

4* Free Week 7 NFL Betting Prediction: Cowboys -7 (-110)
I see this ball game as a good bounce-back opportunity for the Cowboys after they were clearly overmatched by a well-balanced and talented Eagles team.
It is always possible that the offense for Dallas is a bit rocky with Prescott back in the mix for the first time in a while, but I still feel they will be able to do enough in the end against a defense that just is not very good and is allowing points at an alarming rate.
The main reason for my confidence in the Cowboys in this spot is their defense. With the kind of players they have, I expect them to get after Goff early and often and make his day a pretty miserable one.
For me, I just have a hard time seeing this game being all that close when the Cowboys begin to assert themselves.
