Denver had yet another last-minute stumble, losing late on Monday night. For the coach and team, it must have been hard to take but I got my plus three.
Pittsburgh also played on Monday looking good but not great in beating the Giants. It was a good tuneup for their first home game.
No shockers with the numbers here. Will be interesting to see if we get that seven.
Denver Broncos
Denver did not play a great game on Monday night, losing to Tennessee on a last-minute field goal. However, in the fourth quarter, it looked like they were going to get the win at home. Per the broadcast, that last-minute fail has been commonplace the last couple of years. This season it might pack more of an emotional punch.
Another casualty from the game may be running back Phillip Lindsay. He is a hard runner but he is questionable for this one with a foot injury. In his place, Melvin Gordon looked pretty good at times. You need to be balanced against a defense like Pittsburgh’s.
Drew Lock also looked good at times, especially in that fourth quarter. You can see how he and Jerry Jeudy, their top rookie receiver, are going to be a combination to be reckoned with.
The defense looked solid against Tennessee. Sure Derrick Henry got his yards but his average was below four yards per carry. The pass rush was a little light though without Von Miller. They let Ryan Tannehill have way too much time back there.
As road underdogs, this situation does not look good. First travel of the new season and against a team in good early season form.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers were not only playing their first game of the season but their first game with Big Ben in almost a full year. It is not a surprise that they started sluggishly under those circumstances
Pittsburgh also lost its top running back in the process with James Conner day to day. Bennie Snell Jr. jumped in and rushed for 113 yards though.
Most impressive was the way the Steelers bottled up the Giants’ Saquon Barkley. He had one 7 yard run and then was minus 6 yards on all his other carries.
Helping out was the fact that Pittsburgh did not respect Daniel Jones and the New York passing game. They intercepted him twice and sacked him three times.
Week one looked a little off early but once Pittsburgh found their rhythm they looked like the top team we expected.
