The Broncos at Patriots game has been a long time coming, but looks like it will finally happen. This contest was originally scheduled for last Sunday, but moved to Monday then postponed a week due to positive COVID tests.
This game seeing a week delay definitely gives New England an advantage, as Cam Newton will return from the COVID/injured list on Thursday. New England was a different team with Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham at QB.
It’s a ying-and-yang turn of events following the postponement for Denver. With some time off, opening day starting QB is said to be nearing a return to the playing field. Unfortunately, Melvin Gordon got a DUI during the past week putting his status for Sunday at risk.
The Broncos had started off 2020 in a rut, going 0-3 in losses to Tennessee (16-14), Pittsburgh (26-21), and Tampa Bay (28-10). Those are some good teams, but also some very close losses for the most part for Denver.
Denver is also coming off their first win of the season last week in a visit to the Jets. The Broncos prevailed 37-28, despite 3 INTs from starting QB Brett Rypien.
The 28-points allowed to the Jets’ bottom two offense in points/game, yards/game, and passing yards. Newton threw for 297 in week two against Seattle.
New England Patriots
New England heads into your proverbial WTF game. If the Patriots can pull out this win (despite being 10-point favorites), it’s a testament to HC Bill Belichick who didn’t know when he was going to play this game or who was going to be available.
New England has won both of their home games thus far this season, 36-20 to Las Vegas, and 21-11 over Miami in the season opener. Is playing in their familiar stadium the key for New England after all the traveling by Denver last week?
One thing the Broncos don’t do is force takeaways, (2), which will be good for Cam Newton coming off a couple weeks of rest. Vic Fangio is sure to dial something up for Denver, who hasn’t played since October 1st in their own rights.
Tennessee had only two practices in the last two weeks and were still able to dominate Buffalo as +3 home underdogs on Tuesday. Therefore the ‘rusty’ angle from Denver is one to tread lightly with.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Broncos are 7-1 ATS last 8 in October
- Broncos are 6-2 ATS last 8 road games
- Broncos are 9-4 ATS last 13 games overall
- Patriots are 22-6 ATS last 28 vs. team with losing record
- Patriots are 3-7-1 ATS last 11 overall
- Broncos are 0-5 ATS last 5 in New England
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Denver +10
This game can really go either way with all the questions surrounding both teams. The Patriots play Kansas City tight in a 26-10 loss on October 5th, but that was also with Hoyer and Stidham splitting time at QB.
Denver will not have played in 17 days by the time they take the field on Sunday. The Broncos have played Tennessee and Pittsburgh close in losses this year though, and should stay within a TD on Sunday.
