The Dallas Cowboys are hoping to regroup as they got a reality check in Week 2 when they got mowed down by the Denver Broncos by the score of 42-17.
With the loss of David Johnson to the Arizona Cardinals, the offense was in freeze mode as the glue was starting to peel off.
Arizona barely pulled of a 16-13 OT win against the Indianapolis Colts as they got their first win of the season last weekend.
The Dallas Cowboys were the talk of the town as they won their home opener 19-3 against rival New York Giants, as everything went their way.
However, come week 2, they might have been too confident. Dallas walked into a trap against the Denver Broncos as the mile high city showed Americas team what a true all-around team looks like.
The Cowboys offense was never able to get started against the top five defense of Denver, as they were limited to only 40 rushing yards and 268 yards of offense in total.
2nd-year star running back Ezekiel Elliot finished with eight rushing yards on nine carries. Quarterback Dak Prescott did not do well either as he attempted 50 passes with completing 60 percent of them.
On of the reasons why the Cowboys defense was unable to handle the Denver offense was due to injuries early in the game.
Dallas were without two of their corner backs as rookie Chidobe Awuize who was trying to battle a hamstring issue was unable to finish the game as he limp off the field early on Sunday. After that Nolan Carroll the veteran was sent to the locker room with concussion symptoms.
That would leave Anthony Brown and rookie Jourdan Lewis to step up for the huge test, and it was a mess. All of these rookies have potential, but will take a while.
Week 1, saw the Arizona Cardinals leave Ford Field with a 35-23 loss even though they held a 10 point lead in the first quarter. They could not finish the game as Matthew Stafford led the Lions to a comeback win.
This past Sunday, Bruce Arians’ team rallied from a double deficit for a huge win. It was one of the worst wins in Week 2, however a win is a win and the Cards needed something going after the news of David Johnson.
In the comeback win, Carson Palmer threw for 332 yards with a touchdown, but was picked off and sacked four times. On the flip side, the Arizona defense would match that with their own four sacks and holding the Colts offense to a total of 266 yards.
Without Johnson, the Cardinals were able to start a small run game with 83 rushing yards on 25 attempts.
Arizona’s defense has been a hit or miss so far, but ride on the momentum of the offense. Once the Cardinals started scoring against the Colts, the defense finally shut down.
If they want to beat the Cowboys, they must stop the run game.
