It’s a virtual coin-flip in Denver between two teams just fighting to just keep their slim playoff hopes alive here in Week 9. Whichever one of these teams still has two wins at the end of this one can start looking ahead to next year.
Cleveland Browns
For the Browns, that is a grave remark. There was, perhaps, not one single team more hyped coming into this season than the Browns. Seven games in, though, they are sitting 2–5, three games behind Baltimore in the NFC North.

The Ravens host the Patriots in Week 9, however, the team that just handed Cleveland its fifth loss on the year. If New England takes care of Baltimore and the Browns manage to win this game, on the road, as small underdogs, the lead doesn’t feel quite so big.
Cleveland’s defense was fairly effective against the Pats. Tom Brady went 20/36 for 259 yards and Sony Michel needed 21 carries to accumulate 74 yards. New England still scored 27 but it was below its season average.
The offense continued its erraticism. Baker Mayfield was never comfortable in the pocket and finished 20/31 for less than 200 yards and a pick. Nick Chubb ran it 20 times for 131 yards, which is about as big of a workload as a back handles these days.
People will look at the passing numbers and blame Mayfield or Odell Beckham Jr. but there is only so much an aerial attack can do when plays don’t have enough time to develop. This Cleveland front just isn’t good and so the offense as a whole will never be good, or at least consistently good.
Denver Broncos
Could it be good against the Broncos? Possibly.
Denver led by two scores, on the road, in the second half, against the Colts on Sunday but couldn’t hold on.
Joe Flacco led a touchdown drive capped off by Royce Freeman’s touchdown run to open up the second half and the Broncos led, 13-3. But then, kind of like what happened in Kansas City the week before, the offense went quietly. Flacco failed to throw for even 175 yards and Courtland Sutton caught three balls, none after one catch early in the third quarter.

Phillip Lindsay and Freeman split backfield duties are were acceptably effective but defenses are just gearing up for the run and letting Flacco try and beat them.
Is he good enough to beat the Browns? If he is, that should be enough closure for Browns fans. So even though Cleveland can lose and remain just three back of Baltimore, a loss would mean everything but mathematical elimination.
