Here’s why I’m backing an OVER bet below in my Bengals Dolphins free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Bengals vs. Dolphins Gameday
Cincinnati needs to stop a two-game slide. Miami would settle for stopping a four-game losing streak. Neither coaching staff has much reason to admire the standings.
The Cincinnati Bengals visit the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM ET on FOX.
Zac Taylor’s Bengals are 2-2, with Dan Pitcher coordinating the offense and Al Golden directing the defense. The talent is there, but Cincinnati has been considerably less convincing since its unbeaten start.
Cincinnati has the better record, but Miami gets a vulnerable opponent with important offensive injury concerns.
Jeff Hafley’s Dolphins are 0-4.
Bobby Slowik runs Miami’s offense, while Sean Duggan oversees the defense. Both have spent September searching for answers, and the schedule hasn’t offered many favors.
The Dolphins are desperate for a breakthrough. Cincinnati is trying to avoid slipping below .500. There’s no shortage of motivation, although somebody still has to execute.
It’s Week 5, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Miami Dolphins, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Miami Dolphins Odds & Last 5
The supplied NFL betting odds favor Cincinnati at -379 on the moneyline, with Miami returning +301. The Bengals are laying 7.5 points, and the total is 42.5.
Cincinnati lost 22-17 to Jacksonville last Sunday. The Bengals also fell to Pittsburgh after opening with victories over Cleveland and Houston.
Miami’s latest defeat came against Minnesota, 15-10. The Dolphins have been competitive in stretches without finding a way to finish games. Moral victories remain undefeated at accomplishing absolutely nothing in the standings.
The Bengals won the previous meeting 45-21 in December 2025.
Miami’s last victory over Cincinnati came in 2020, a 19-7 decision. Both franchises have changed considerably since then.
Recent history favors the visitors. The more immediate question is whether Cincinnati can rediscover its early-season form. Miami has little interest in becoming somebody else’s get-well opponent.

Dolphins Stats
Miami averages just 11.5 points per game, among the league’s lowest totals. The Dolphins generate approximately 268 offensive yards per contest. Slowik’s attack has struggled to sustain possessions, never mind finish them.
The defense has been more respectable.
Miami allows roughly 25 points per game and has recorded four sacks. Its three interceptions show some ability to disrupt opposing passing attacks.
Ollie Gordon II provided a bright spot against Minnesota. He rushed for 100 yards and a TD, giving Miami a physical presence in the backfield. Unfortunately, one productive runner doesn’t repair an entire offense.
De’Von Achane remains sidelined after his season-ending ACL injury.
That leaves Gordon with additional responsibility, especially when Miami needs manageable third downs. The Dolphins must also find ways to create space for their receivers.
Injuries haven’t helped Hafley’s rebuilding effort. Justin Joly, Caleb Douglas, Rob Beal Jr. and Reese Taylor are out. Jaylen Wright, Jackson Woodard, Kenneth Grant and Storm Duck are questionable.
Bengals Stats
Cincinnati averages approximately 24 points per game, with its passing attack generating 278 yards per contest. The rushing game has managed only 74 yards, making the offense easier to anticipate. Taylor would probably prefer a little less predictability.
The Bengals have defended the run reasonably well.
Opponents average roughly 100 rushing yards against Cincinnati, but the pass defense has surrendered approximately 248 yards per game. Golden needs better coverage when opponents attack downfield.
The Bengals allow about 21 points per contest. That’s respectable, although the offense hasn’t consistently taken advantage of those defensive performances.
The receiving corps is Cincinnati’s biggest concern. Ja’Marr Chase remains questionable while working through concussion clearance, and Tee Higgins is questionable with groin and neck problems. Neither should be treated as certain to play.
Kyle Dugger has been ruled out with a quadriceps injury.
Bryan Cook, Swayze Bozeman and Colbie Young are also questionable. Cincinnati may need important contributions from its depth players. The injury report is becoming longer than Taylor’s list of preferred excuses.
Cincinnati can create favorable matchups, but its offensive depth may determine how effectively it exploits them.
Bengals vs. Dolphins QB Matchup
Joe Burrow has thrown for 1,171 yards, seven TD’s and three interceptions through four games. His accuracy and anticipation remain Cincinnati’s greatest passing strengths. Even a strong quarterback needs his receivers to finish their routes.
Burrow threw for 428 yards against Jacksonville.
Mike Gesicki and Chase Brown offer useful underneath options if Cincinnati’s receiving depth gets tested. Pitcher can also use quicker releases to limit pressure.
Malik Willis has thrown for 712 yards, one TD and two interceptions. His mobility gives Miami an alternative when conventional passing plays break down. Turning that ability into consistent production has been the challenge.
Willis managed only 85 passing yards against Minnesota.
That kind of output places enormous pressure on the running game. Slowik needs better early-down execution to avoid repeated third-and-long situations.

Burrow will look to identify weaknesses in Miami’s coverage before the snap. Willis must use his legs selectively without abandoning available throws. Both quarterbacks have opportunities, but neither enjoys ideal support.
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Miami Dolphins bottom line: Burrow’s timing challenges Miami’s secondary, while Willis must create a functional passing attack to complement the Dolphins’ ground game.

Bengals Dolphins Free Pick: Over 42.5
Here is my Bengals Dolphins free pick: I’m taking Over 42.5 points. This number doesn’t require both offenses to put on a clinic. It requires Cincinnati to do most of the damage while Miami contributes enough to keep the scoreboard moving.
I’m not counting on a shootout.
My preferred script has Cincinnati establishing an early advantage and Miami gradually becoming more aggressive. A trailing team has fewer opportunities to hide behind conservative play-calling.
That’s where the extra possessions become valuable. An unsuccessful fourth-down gamble can be nearly as helpful to an Over as a touchdown. Field position doesn’t care which team made the mistake.
I’ll take a modest total when one offense can set the pace and the other has reason to take chances.
There’s a legitimate injury risk here.
Cincinnati’s receiving uncertainty could make the first quarter ugly, and Miami hasn’t exactly been a reliable scoring machine. I still see a route through the number if the Bengals convert red-zone opportunities and the Dolphins produce a couple of meaningful responses.
I want touchdowns, not an exhibition in kicking FG’s. Something around 30-17 gets the job done. My NFL free pick is Bengals Dolphins Over 42.5 points.
