The Cowboys will get another matchup with an NFC North team on Sunday when the Chicago Bears pay a visit to AT&T Stadium at 1:00 ET.
Both of these teams took care of their opponents rather handily in week 7. Chicago picked up a surprising win on the road in New England while the Cowboys did what they had to do against a bad Lions team.
After the Bears did what they did against the Patriots, it does make me look at them a little differently and it does put a little more buzz around their matchup with Dallas here.
As expected, the Cowboys are a significant favorite in this game, as they are currently a 9.5-point home favorite. The total opened at 43 points and has dropped to 42.5.
Chicago Bears
Much of the season for the Bears has been looked at pretty negatively and they really had not done much to believe they were headed in any sort of direction.
Not that one game makes everything all of a sudden great for them, but there was no doubt I was impressed by the way they were able to play in the 33-14 beatdown of the Patriots.
Quite Frankly, I would have been impressed with Chicago if they beat the Patriots by 1 point, but it was even more so with the way they did it.
Heading into the game, we kept hearing how the Bears just are not a very good team and they are not overly talented on either side of the ball. Well, they definitely had something to say about that on Monday because they did not look like the team a lot of people thought they were.
For starters, I really liked what Justin Fields was able to do against a solid defense in New England. He did not do anything necessarily great out there, but he seemed to be in control of the offense and he certainly did not make as many head-scratching mistakes as he has in the past.
I thought the second-year quarterback did a good job of going through his progressions and finding the open man, something he simply was not doing on a consistent enough basis this season.
He finished the night going 13/21 for 179 yards with a touchdown and a pick. Sure, there were things he would have liked to do better with his arm, but that is a performance he can build off for future games.
The area where Fields really stood out in this game was with his legs, especially on the designed runs that had the New England defense guessing the whole game. Overall, he finished with 14 carries for 82 yards, and Khalil Herbert/David Montgomery both picked up 62 yards on the ground.
On the defensive side of the field, it was clear these guys came to play from the first play and they really did not let up as the game went on. From very early on, the Chicago defense was clearly making the opposing offense confused and that remained constant throughout.
The Patriots did get a little bit of life when Bailey Zappe replaced Mac Jones and they did get in the endzone two times, but that was about it for their offense. The bears made some adjustments on defense and did not allow the Pats to score one point in the second half.
Among a lot of things they did well on defense, something I was impressed with was how they made both quarterbacks look uncomfortable for a good portion of the game. Neither Zappe nor Jones seemed to have a consistently clean pocket, and although they only picked up one sack, there was good pressure applied to both of them throughout the game.
As once again a heavy underdog on the road, the Bears have another chance to really surprise some people when they face a talented Cowboys team on Sunday.
Of course, they will look to have similar results from the Monday night game in this one, but it will be a much taller task when they have to face a better team with a more talented quarterback.
A big area of concern that I do have for the Bears heading into this game is their questionable offensive line that did allow 4 sacks against New England. When facing a very skilled defense in Dallas, those are things that could really spell trouble for them if they do not make some adjustments.
Chicago did a nice job of containing the duo of Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson, which they will have to do on Sunday when facing Pollard and Elliott. If they can at least make the Cowboys more one-dimensional, I do feel they will have a better chance to keep things close.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys did a good of bouncing back after a tough loss to the Eagles with a 24-6 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
It was a game that was close for a while and Detroit actually did lead 6-3 at the half, but Dallas stepped up in the second half and proved to be too much to handle for a bad team.
Dak Prescott returned in this one and he did what he had to do out there after not playing for some time. He finished completing 76% of his passes for 207 yards and a touchdown.
It will definitely take time for him to get back to his old form completely, but what he was able to do is a good sign moving forward for him and this team.
The two-headed monster in the running game was effective against a bad defense, as Zeke scored 2 touchdowns and Tony Pollard averaged nearly 7 yards a carry for 83 yards.
Offensively, the attack was pretty simple for Dallas, but it was also effective. Although it took some time, they were able to expose a defense that is very flawed in multiple different ways to get the results they wanted.
We had already seen that the Lions’ offense was not as good as it was touted when they faced the Patriots two weeks ago and it was really more of the same on Sunday. Dallas was able to confuse and pressure Jared Goff consistently, which was expected from this talented unit.
Goff did complete a lot of his passes and their offense did move the ball at times, but the Cowboys were able to pick him off twice and also forced three fumbles.
Despite this team having a record of 5-2, they still find themselves in third place in the NFC East, so they need to keep winning games against the teams they are simply better than.
Clearly, the Bears proved they cannot be totally taken lightly, but this is still a very winnable game for the home team and it is one they match up well in. Dallas knows the formula to slow down a team like this and it really is just going to come down to execution on Sunday.
Even if Justin Fields has some success on the ground, they cannot let the Chicago running backs have the success they had on Monday and they also need to protect the football better than the Patriots. No matter who your opponent is, playing a sloppy, incomplete brand of football is not going to get it done in the NFL.
The Bears did show well on defense during their MNF win, but they did not exactly shut down an explosive offense. Dallas really should be able to have success against this unit by exposing their questionable secondary and running the ball well against a shaky run defense.

4* Free Week 8 NFL Betting Prediction: Cowboys -9.5 (-110)
It was hard not to be at least a little impressed by what the Bears did on Monday night, but I do not necessarily see that carrying over to this game with Dallas.
Aside from the success they had on offense against the Patriots, Chicago is still toward the bottom in that category and I just have a hard time seeing them do much against this loaded defense for the Cowboys.
Justin Fields still might make some plays on the ground here, but I do not feel it will be to the point where he is getting chunk play after chunk play.
This game might not be totally one-sided, but I just see Dallas being too much for them to handle on both sides of the ball in the end.
