The Panthers had a rough Week 2 with a poor result and a devastating injury to boot.
The Chargers had a fourth quarter lead on Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs but couldn’t hold it. They come into this one as rather large favorites to get back over .500.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers trailed 21–0 at the half in their Week 2 game against Tampa Bay.
Christian McCaffrey helped them cut into that lead with two touchdowns in the second half. Then he sprained his ankle in the fourth quarter and left the game.
Initially, reports weren’t grave but McCaffrey is now out four to six weeks because of the nature of the sprain being in the upper ankle.
He will miss his first game of his NFL career, now in his fourth season. He will also leave fantasy football teams all over the world scrambling for running back depth.
Teddy Bridgewater’s final numbers looked good — at least some of them. He completed 33 of his 42 passes for 367 yards but threw two interceptions.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers were fortunate to escape their Week 1 game against the Bengals with a win in regulation after Cincinnati’s kicker missed a chip shot as time expired.
They were on the wrong side in another three-point game in Week 2, this time against the defending Super Bowl champions.
Los Angeles led by eight in the fourth quarter in the first game at their new stadium they share with the Rams.
But KC scored, got the two and then tied it back up at the end of regulation after LA momentarily went back ahead with a field goal.
Justin Herbert, the first round pick out of Oregon in the 2020 draft, got his first start after Tyrod Taylor became a late scratch.
The rookie played well, going 22 for 33 for 311 yards and a touchdown.
He was aided by a strong running game. The tandem of Austin Eckler and Joshua Kelly ran the ball 39 times for nearly 160 yards. The pair added over 100 yards receiving.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: under 44.0
The Chargers should win this game easily but if there’s something I know about the Chargers it’s that they don’t easily win the games they should.
I do feel good about the LA defense holding Carolina, though. Perhaps the Bolts struggle in the red zone and this one stays low.
