We have reached week five of the NFL season and this is a week that a lot of contenders start to pull away from the pack.
Two teams that hope they are contenders face off in this one.
It’s a a pair of 3-1 teams when the Carolina Panthers make the trip to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon.
This is the first game played between the two teams since 2014 when the Panthers came out ahead 24-7.
The Carolina Panthers have had a really weird season so far this year, but come into this game with a 3-1 record and that’s all that matters.
In their first two weeks they played the Bills and the 49ers and gave up a total of six points. But then they played the Saints and it looked like a whole different team out there.
Cam Newton really struggled and that led to a 34-13 blowout at the hands of the Saints. But all those worries were erased when they took on the Patriots last Sunday.
Cam Newton threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns and that led to big upset of the New England Patriots by the final score of 33-30.
The one thing that struggled the last two weeks against the Saints and the Patriots though has been the defense, and that is going to need to change soon if they want to continue to have some success.
In this game they need to attack the offensive line of the Lions, something that really struggled in their last game.
If they can collapse the pocket a lot during this game they should have a good game defensively.
On the other side of this match up is the Detroit Lions who have had success this year, and come into this game with a 3-1 record, but they didn’t have their best game against the Vikings.
The offensive line had all kinds of issues against the Vikings, and that led to a lot of sacks on Stafford and a couple of real bad throws.
The Vikings dropped four or five passes that should have been an interception, and he needs to make smarter decisions if they don’t want to lose this game at home.
On the defensive side of the ball they need to keep Cam Newton in the pocket. If he starts to scramble it could be a long night for the Lions defense.
The other thing for the Lions is they need to try and win this game early. They can’t just assume that they will have another fourth quarter comeback.
Stafford has been good at those, but if they have success early in the game they wouldn’t have to put all that pressure on them late.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Lions -2.5
The Lions really have seemed to enjoy playing at home the last couple of years, and I think that will continue in this game.
NFL Free Week 5 Score Prediction: Lions 27 – Panthers 21
I don’t think they will need the fourth quarter comeback in this game. I think Stafford will have a really nice game in this one and that will lead to the victory.
