The Ravens were hardly challenged last week against Cincinnati. This one might not be much of a challenge either.
Philly was more competitive in their game against the Steelers, but they lost to their in-state rival.
Philly, despite their struggles, are still in the race for the top spot in the NFC East, especially with Dak Prescott going down in Dallas.
Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore had their easiest game of the season last week, beating Cincinnati 27-3. I am not sure how well they played, more than they showed that they are one of the better teams in the league, again.
On defense, they made times very tough for Bengals rookie QB Joe Burrow. Seven different players registered a sack last Sunday and they probably could have brought him down on a bunch of other plays too.
Baltimore also did a good job of stopping the run on the way to the quarterback. Shifty RB Joe Mixon could not even average 3 yards per carry.
Normally the Ravens running game dominates but it was a couple of big plays that did the heavy lifting. They were able to spring speedsters JK Dobbins and Devin Duvernay for an explosive run each. Lamar Jackson was not a factor running the ball, which is rare.
Philadelphia is a more experienced team but this should still be an easy week for Baltimore.
Philadelphia Eagles
Philly is trying to hang tough and overcome a slew of injuries all over the field. One of the darts you can throw at Carson Wentz is that he might be a fairweather quarterback.
For this one there are two key injuries on defense you need some clarity on. Fletcher Cox is their best defensive player and a menace on the defensive line. Darius Slay was brought in to be their top corner. They need both in this matchup.
Against Pittsburgh last week they had a spirited effort. It was a two-point game in the fourth quarter but they just couldn’t make the plays to win it.
Ben Roethlisberger is a different quarterback than Lamar Jackson, that’s for sure. Still, they made it too easy for him. He barely missed a throw all game. Jackson is not as accurate but he will kill them with his legs if they are not careful.
This is a strange season and even though Philly has only one win in the first five weeks they are still in the race in the NFC East. That has to be helpful to the psyche of this team that has not played well this season.
NFL Betting Trends:
- BAL are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
- BAL are 17-7-1 ATS in their last 25 games on grass.
- Under is 19-7 in PHI last 26 home games.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Baltimore -7.5
It is hard to find a reason to get behind Philly in this spot. Other than being at home I am not seeing any advantages. The hooks provides a little value to the home side but not enough to move me off Jackson and the Ravens. They lost to KC but that is their only blemish. I like the way they close games.
