Two teams with a record of 1-1 will be squaring off on Sunday when the Baltimore Ravens visit the New England Patriots.
Baltimore was able to win the first game of their season and dropped their second game while New England did the opposite.
The last time these two teams played each other in the regular season was in November of 2020 when the Pats won 23-17 in what was a weird game. It is fair to say there has been quite a bit of change for both teams since that meeting.
As a road favorite, the Ravens opened up laying the 3 points and that number has not changed so far. There has been a slight change in the total with it ticking up to 43 from the opening number of 42.5.
Baltimore is going to have to play a lot better on defense than they did last time out and the New England is really going to have to find some sort of rhythm of offense after averaging just 12 points per game in their first two ball games.
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens enter this game with a record of 1-1, but they absolutely should be 2-0 if it were not for their total collapse on Sunday against the Dolphins in what ended as a 42-38 thriller.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Baltimore led their opponent 35-14 and it sure looked like they had the game sealed but clearly Miami had different ideas.
I do get that some credit has to be given to the Dolphins given what Tua and that offense were able to do late in the game, but the Ravens also deserve a lot of criticism for not being able to close out a game against a talented team but still a squad they are better than.
It took him a little bit to get a rhythm going, but once Tagovailoa started to find his playmakers, there was no stopping the Miami offense as they shredded the defense for Baltimore time and time again.
Baltimore had no answers for Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle who both picked up 11 catches, over 170 yards, and 2 touchdowns. They are not going to be seeing anyone on the Patriots with that talent or explosiveness, but if they are not more sound on the defensive side of the ball, it could be another ugly game for that unit even against a mediocre offense.
On the surface, it might have seemed like everything was good for the Ravens on offense last time out, but they were not nearly as effective when it really mattered compared to the beginning of the game. Jackson & co. looked really good at times but being able to only score 3 points in the fourth quarter is just not acceptable for a team of this caliber.
Even after a horrible loss, they do have a good opportunity to get back into the win column against a very beatable Patriots team, but it still is hard to love their chances of just bouncing back and brushing off what happened. It is still important to remember they got torched by Tua of all people who totally exposed some of their weaknesses.
Something that will be interesting to see on Sunday is how the Ravens do on third down. It was well-documented how poor they were in that category on Sunday and they will be facing a New England defense that has not exactly done a good job of getting off the field on that down.
New England Patriots
The Patriots went into Pittsburgh and took care of the Steelers on Sunday by a score of 17-14 for their first win of the season.
How the game ended up playing out is the way a lot of people saw it going. It was an ugly, defensive battle that came down to the end with New England ultimately being too much to handle.
After examining their last victory, I am not telling you there was nothing this team did well, but it was not as if I was super impressed by what I saw. Ultimately, it came down to which team screwed up the least, and that happened to be the Pats.
One area that I was impressed by with them last time out was the offensive line. Yes, not having to go against TJ Watt was a big bonus, but they still did a very good job of keeping their quarterback upright while also creating good running lanes for Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson.
I thought Mac Jones was alright at times against the Steelers but some of the decision-making still has to be better out there. Similar to the Miami game, they were able to move the ball effectively at times, but there were also a lot of drives that ended up stalling.
Defensively, the Patriots looked pretty good against Pittsburgh, but it is always important to remember the type of quarterback they were facing. Allowing 14 points to a team is always something to build off of, but something I feel might have gotten overshadowed in that performance was how they did on third down. At times, New England had a helluva time getting off the field on that down which is something that will cost them when they face better teams.
There is no question this matchup with the Ravens on Sunday is going to be a tricky one. Not only do they have the challenge of containing Lamar Jackson and a very talented squad, but they will also be facing an extra-motivated Baltimore team after their embarrassing collapse against the Dolphins.
If the offensive line is unable to perform as they did against Pittsburgh, it could be a long day for Jones and the offense. On the defensive side of the ball, one would expect that Belichick would have a plan to contain Jackson, but that will be a very tall task against a talented group on offense.

4* Free Week 3 NFL Betting Prediction: Patriots +3 (-110)
The Ravens are the more talented team in this spot, but I do not see them going into New England and having an easy time on Sunday.
There is no question that Baltimore got exposed by Miami on Sunday and I do not just see all that being cleaned up when they face off with the Patriots.
Listen, I do not expect them to allow as many points or yards against New England, but I also have a hard time seeing them be totally clean on that side of the field and totally shut them out.
This Patriots team is not overly talented, but they are well-coached and I expect them to be well-prepared in their home opener against a tough team.
It could shape out to be another ugly one that is close in the fourth quarter which is why I do not love laying the points with the Ravens here.
