This week 15 match-up will see the Atlanta Falcons travel to the West Coast to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
These teams have not met since 2016. The Falcons won the last meeting 41-13. However, the 49ers are a completely different team now, so I expect a much different result.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons got another win under their best when they beat the Carolina Panthers this past week 40-20. They played a tight first half with the Panthers, but completely blew them out in the second half. Despite a win, Atlanta are already doomed to a losing season. Perhaps they will be trying to play a spoiler role or they just want their head coach to keep his job.
Even though the Falcons have a poor record, their offense has not been the worst. They are averaging 376.5 total yards per game, which ranks 7th in the NFL. Granted a chunk of these yards have come at times when the Falcons are way behind and are passing on every snap. Regardless, they have enough talent on offense to move the ball.
Especially in the pass game as they average 295.7 yards per game. This is the 3rd best passing offense in the league. Led by Matt Ryan and Julio Jones, the Falcons must be able to move on the secondary for the Niners.
The bad news is Calvin Ridley, probably their second best receiver, has recently been ruled out for the season. That means someone is going to have to step up because Julio is going to be covered by their best corner.

For the most part this season, the Falcons defense has been awful. They allow 366.4 yards per game, 258.4 passing yards and 108 rushing yards.
The biggest key for Atlanta and their defense is creating turnovers. Their defense must create short fields for their offense, especially going up against a top defense.
San Francisco 49ers
The Niners got their 11th win of the season this past week when they beat the New Orleans Saints in a shootout. They now lead the NFC West and hold the number one seed in the NFC playoffs as it stands.
The 49ers offense has been stagnant at times this season, but they were far from that against the Saints. Mind you this game was played in New Orleans too so that makes their performance even more impressive. They had a total of 516 yards in this game, over 100 more than their average.
Jimmy G was on fire in this game as he threw for 354 yards, four touchdowns an one interception. Mind you they only rank 13th in passing offense so they exceed expectations by a large margin.
The run game was brilliant again, as they rushed for 164 yards. They are the 2nd best overall rushing offense in the league and showed why in New Orleans

For the first time all season, the 49ers defense looked awful against the Saints. They have the best passing defense in the league, but just allowed 349 yards through the air to Brees and the Saints.
Their rush defense held Kamara in check for the most part and should have success against a poor Atlanta rushing attack.
The key for the 49ers will be getting pressure on Matt Ryan. When pressured, Matt Ryan does not always make good decisions and that could in turn lead to some turnovers.
NFL Betting Trends:
- ATL are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games in Week 15.
- Underdog is 11-5 ATS in their last 16 meetings.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Atlanta Falcons +11
The Niners are by far the more complete team, so I like them to win this game at home.
However, seeing how their secondary just got torched, I believe it could allow the Falcons to keep this game within two scores. Laying double figures even at home is too many, so I will take Atlanta to cover against their old offensive coordinator.
