10-11-14 | Montreal Canadiens v. Philadelphia Flyers -104 | 4-3 | Loss | -104 | 21 h 48 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Philadelphia Flyers. I like the winless Flyers to take care of business at home and think the Canadiens come in a bit complacent here. The Habs come in unbeaten at 2-0, Philadelphia is 0-2. The Flyers will certainly be the more desperate team today as they look to avoid their third straight 0-3 start. Note that Montreal hasn’t won three straight to open the year since 2005. Philadelphia can put the biscuit in the basket, it outshot the Devils 39-26 last time out, but would ultimately fall 6-5. Note that while Philly goaltender Steve Mason has looked shaky this year, a game vs. Montreal is just what the doctor ordered to get untracked, he’s 3-0-0 with a tiny 1.63 GAA and a .936 save percentage lifetime vs. it. The same can’t be said for Canadiens goaltender Carey Price who is 2-8-0 with a 3.46 GAA vs. the Flyers since November 2010, which includes six straight loss in Philadelphia. “Desperation” is a key factor working in on favor in this one, in my opinion this is the very definition of “great line value”; play on the FLYERS. 10-11-14 | Calgary Flames v. St Louis Blues -193 | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 21 h 48 m | Show
This is a 5* play on the St. Louis Blues. Calgary is playing its third game in four nights and suffice it to say expect it get overwhelmed today by the 0-1 home side which doesn’t have to play again until next Thursday. St. Louis lost 3-2 in its opener, newcomer Paul Stastny scored in his Blues debut. Calgary is coming off a 5-2 win over Edmonton despite being outshot 40-26. But ultimately for me this comes down to Blues goaltender Brian Elliott who has won three straight vs. Calgary while posting a 1.00 GAA. There’s no need to overanalyze this one, sometimes a favorite is a favorite for a reason and in this case, I feel St. Louis should in fact be a larger one; play on the BLUES. AAA Sports |

10-10-14 | NY Islanders -105 v. Carolina Hurricanes | Top | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 20 h 9 m | Show |
This is a 10* SCORPION on the New York Islanders. Carolina enters the season injured and I look for the visitors to take full advantage. John Tavares returns for the Islanders and he’s now at full strength after injuring his knee last February which forced him to miss the last 1/4 of the season: “I had a normal offseason, and the injury has been put behind me for a good three months now," Tavares explained last week. I'm really anxious to dive right back into it. The nerves and energy getting ready for the season were there. If I ever lose that feeling, I shouldn't be playing. This is what I love to do. I couldn't be more excited." The Isles were 17th in the league with a 2.63 goals per game average, led by Kyle Okposo’s 69 points and Frans Nielsen who had 25 goals. New York also added Mikhail Grabovski in the offseason, who would score 13 goals for the Capitals last year. All of these men will be chomping at the bit to go against Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward who posted the fifth-worst GAA average (3.06) among goalies with 25 or more starts. The Hurricanes return almost the identical roster, which is bad news for them as they finished 22nd in the league for overall goals and had the NHL’s third-worst power play. Also note that the team took a major hit when Jordan Staal broke his right fibula in preseason and he’ll be out until at least January. Carolina will also be without the services of top goal scorer Jeff Skinner who suffered a concussion on Sunday. So a team which was already inept at scoring will now have to face a revamped Islanders defense which was boosted by the acquistion of Nick Leddy from Chicago and Johnny Boychuk from Boston. And note that the Isles start a new goaltender tonight in Jaroslav Halak whose 2.25 GAA was the NHL’s eighth-best last year. In my humble opinion, this is the very definition of great line value; play on NEW YORK. AAA Sports |

10-08-14 | San Jose Sharks +121 v. Los Angeles Kings | 4-0 | Win | 121 | 68 h 22 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the San Jose Sharks. I think this sets up as a letdown spot for the home side and believe we’re getting excellent value on the hungry visitors who will be all business tonight. San Jose would go up 3-0 on LA last year in the playoffs, only to then lose four straight. The Kings are now without the services of defenseman Willie Mitchell who signed with Florida; the forwards for the most part remain identical for the home side though. San Jose didn’t make many offseason changes either: “Last year is over with," Sharks forward Tommy Wingels said. "People are going to want to talk about it, we're going to want to think about it, but you need to eliminate it from your memory because it's over with. Our focus is on the start here and getting off to a good start." San Jose returns Antti Niemi between the pipes, he finished with a career-high 39 wins last year. The strength of Los Angeles will once again be on the back end, anchored by goaltender Jonathan Quick who posted a 2.07 GAA in 49 games. Note that San Jose has won four straight season openers, while LA has lost two straight. “Revenge” is a powerful motivator that handicappers use, in this case I think we’re getting excellent value on the SHARKS. 10-08-14 | Philadelphia Flyers v. Boston Bruins -168 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 65 h 17 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Boston Bruins. Boston is ready to go on opening night, anything less than a Stanley Cup Finals appearance will be considered a letdown this year. The Bruins would follow up their 2013 Finals appearance by winning the Presidents Trophy last year, unfortunately for the home side though, it would exit in just the second round of the playoffs. Boston will once again be one of the best between the pipes with Tuukka Rask manning the helm: "We have to get off to a good start," Selke award winner Patrice Bergeron said earlier in the week. "We have to establish a connection with all the new players and make sure we're dialed in and that we definitely need to carry on what we've accomplished already." Philadelphia had an up and down year, it would start 3-9-0, only to recover to make the postseason, only to then be bounced by the Rangers in the first round. The Flyers will once again be leaning heavily on captain Claude Giroux to lead the way offensively this year, but Boston’s depth will prove to be too much for the visitors in my opinion, Bergeron is surrounded by Reilly Smith and Brad Marchand on the first line, the second consists of Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Loui Eriksson. But not to be outdone, the Bruins’ back end will also be dominant with Torey Krug, Zdeno Chara and Dougie Hamilton; also, a healthy Dennis Seidenberg returns as well. The Flyers will start Steve Mason, who tied a career high with 33 victories last year. Philadelphia has more questions at this point than answers, the home side is stacked and in my opinion, this line should in fact be a lot larger; play on BOSTON. AAA Sports |

10-08-14 | Montreal Canadiens +102 v. Toronto Maple Leafs | 4-3 | Win | 102 | 65 h 3 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Montreal Canadiens. Toronto took a major step up last season, but I think will regress this year. This is a big game for Montreal as it looks to avoid its fifth straight season-opening loss to the Maple Leafs. The Habs will also be anxious to send an early statement after a painful loss in the Eastern Conference Finals a year ago. Montreal captain Brian Gionta bolted for Buffalo, meaning that four players will wear the C to start the season, including defensemen PK Subban and Andrei Markov, along with forwards Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec. But the biggest reason I like Montreal today (and the reason the playoff loss was so bad), is because goaltender Carey Price is back; Price looked solid in the preseason and is coming off a 2013/14 campaign in which he posted a very respectable 2.32 GAA. An already talented offensive unit will also benefit from having PA Parteneau in the lineup, he’d finish with 14 goals and 19 assists with Colorado last season. The Maple Leafs were early favorites to win the Stanley Cup after the first couple of weeks last year, jumping out to an uncharacteristically quick start but then they’d predictably fall apart down the stretch, which prompted management to hire Brendan Shanahan as GM. Toronto was horrible defensively last year, ranking 26th in the league in giving up a 3.07 GAA and 28th on the penatly kill (78.5%). Jonathan Bernier has won starting goaltender duties (for now anyways), and if he falters they can turn to James Reimer. I’m giving the visitors two crucial edges in this matchup, in goal and in the motivation department, in my opinion this is the very definition of great line value; play on MONTREAL. AAA Sports |

06-13-14 | NY Rangers v. Los Angeles Kings -163 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 32 h 9 m | Show
This is a 6* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the LA Kings. The 2013/14 NHL season ends tonight. The LA Kings do not want to go back to New York. LA was never going to sweep the Rangers in this series, so after securing its victory and avoiding the shame of going 0-fer, I think that New York is going to get pummled tonight by a re-energized and focused Kings side. No need to overanalyze this pick, this is a situationally based selection: note that New York is a money-burning 3-3 (-1.3 units) in when trailing in a playoff series this year, while LA is 5-3 (+1 unit) when leading in a playoff series. The writing is on the wall, in my opinion this line should be a lot larger, expect LA to come out swinging, to take the early lead and to never look back. Lay the price. AAA Sports |

05-25-14 | Montreal Canadiens v. NY Rangers -168 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 15 h 41 m | Show
This is a 6* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the New York Rangers. Montreal won Game 3. The Rangers still lead 2-1 and with Habs’ starting goaltender Carey Price sidelined for the remainder of this series, I look for the home side to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night in Game 4. Forget about the injuries, forget about everything and concentrate solely on the starting goaltenders for this contest. Henrik Lundqvist of New York has the clear advantage over Peter Budaj of the Canadiens in almost every single goaltender statistical category there is. For me, it’s as simple as that. I have absolutely no problem whatsoever in laying this price. Play on New York. AAA Sports |
|||||||
05-19-14 | NY Rangers v. Montreal Canadiens -120 | 3-1 | Loss | -120 | 24 h 10 m | Show
This is an 8* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the Montreal Canadiens. It’s going to be all men on deck for Montreal today if starting goaltender Carey Price is unable to play in Game 2. The Rangers’ Chris Kreider ran him over during the second period and injured the Habs goaltender; Price and the training staff are trying their hardest to have the netminder ready for Game 2, but all signs are pointing to a negative outcome, meaning that backup Peter Budaj will have some pretty big shoes to fill. Budaj has played in seven playoff games and is 0-2-0 with a 5.13 GAA; obviously those aren’t great numbers, but I look for the Habs to rally around this setback and step things up on the defensive end of the ice as they look to stave off the dreaded 0-2 hole. In my opinion, this is a must win game for Montreal, being down 0-2 and without their starting goaltender when switching venues to the Big Apple is not conducive to a successful series. I took Montreal in Game 1 and that would snowball away from us as the Habs were a step slow after getting by league best Boston. But I think they’ll be back to their usual effecient selves tonight, and remember, the Rangers have been wildly inconsistent throughout the playoffs, including starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Expect the home side to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night and lay the short price. AAA Sports |

05-17-14 | NY Rangers v. Montreal Canadiens -120 | 7-2 | Loss | -120 | 16 h 21 m | Show
This is an 8* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the Montreal Canadiens. Here we go, Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. I simply can’t understate how important I believe home ice advantage will be in the opener and look for that one powerful factor to ultimatley prove to be the difference in the final outcome in Game 1. Both team’s are coming off brutal 7-game series victories, each club had to win on the road to do it. The Habs beat the favored Bruins and the Blue Shirts beat the favored Penguins. Both teams will obviously be a bit winded, so home ice is crucial in this situation; players are able to sleep in their own beds and their routines remain the same, which is a major advantage at this point of the season. While New York could have the slight edge in goaltending, I believe the speed that the Habs bring to the table negates that advantage and will be serious trouble for the visitors today. Also note that Lundqvist has struggled throughout his career in Montreal where he’s a sub-par 4-5-2 with a ballooned 3.87 GAA and .876 save percentage. And note that Price posted a tiny 1.50 GAA, .950 save percentage and had one shutout in his final four games vs. the Bruins. Price also dominated New York in the regular season, stopping 74 of 75 shots in two games vs. it (and remember, Price got the better of Lundqvist in the gold medal game in Canada’s 3-0 win over Sweden). In my opinion, this is great line value. Play on Montreal. AAA Sports |

05-16-14 | Los Angeles Kings +111 v. Anaheim Ducks | Top | 6-2 | Win | 111 | 18 h 59 m | Show |
This is a 10* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the LA Kings. What a series. I took the Kings in Game 6. There’s no question this is an evenly matched series, but for this selection, I’m basing it entirely on the men between the pipes. I think we’re getting great value on Jonathan Quick and the LA Kings. LA is 5-0 in elimination games this year and has more experience in these types of situations and that simply can’t be overlooked in this selection either: “When you have our trust and experience with each other, it puts games like this in perspective," Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "We've been through a lot worse. We know what has to be done." "We just have the mentality that nothing is going to stop us," LA defenseman Drew Doughty echoed. "We're just a close-knit team that wants nothing more than to be another Stanley Cup champion." Note that Ducks’ coach Bruce Boudreau is 1-4 in Game 7’s with Washington and Anaheim, losing four in front of the home town crowd. But as stated above, who would you take in a game of this magnitude if you had one choice: LA’s wily veteran Quick or 20-year old John Gibson for the Ducks? Now imagine getting Quick as the underdog? That’s exactly the situation here. In what will likely be another nail-biter, I think this value is simply too good to turn down; play on the Kings. AAA Sports |

05-14-14 | Anaheim Ducks v. Los Angeles Kings -135 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 25 h 40 m | Show
This is a 7* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the LA Kings. This is the fifth elimination game that the Kings have had to go through this season and so far they’ve been up to the task; I look for the home side to continue that streak with a series saving effort: "I love those opportunities," LA defenseman Drew Doughty assessed yesterday. "I love the pressure. I know going into those games I'm going to be counted upon. Because we're comfortable in that situation, we know exactly how desperate we have to play." LA has a ton of experience in these situations, it even faced an elimination game during its 16-4 Stanley Cup title run back in 2012. Anaheim rookie goaltender John Gibson has gotten the better of LA’s Jonathan Quick the last two games, but we have nothing to worry about here, Quick is a consumate professional and his experience in these types of scenarios will prove invaluable tonight. The Ducks on the other hand need only to look back to last year’s playoffs for a complete failure in this exact situation; Anaheim took a 3-2 series lead on Detroit and then failed in two chances to close the series out. I look for history to repeat itself tonight and am backing the proven home side. Play on LA. AAA Sports |

05-09-14 | CHICAGO GM4 -125 v. MINNESOTA GM4 | 2-4 | Loss | -125 | 59 h 7 m | Show
This is an 8* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the Chicago Blackhawks. I took Chicago in Games 1 and 2 and also in Game 3. I believe that the ‘Hawks bounce back and take Game 4. It was quite the defensive affair in Game 3, it was still scoreless heading into the third period; Minnesota finally tallied the first goal early on in that frame and Chicago would then unravel, losing 4-0. The Blackhawks are clearly at their best when they’re attacking and looking to make plays on every possession, we can expect the visitors to push the pace of Game 4 from the outset. The Wild won’t make many adjustments for this contest, but Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville has already said that defenseman Nick Leddy is expected back after being held out as a healthy scratch in Game 3; Leddy will be utilized for his speed. The Wild’s methodical defensive style finally got the better of the Hawks last time out, but Chicago now comes in well rested and re-focused, I definitely expect it to take the momentum right back tonight: "The fact that you know you've got several options is what makes us a good team," Quenneville said. I couldn’t agree more. I’m laying the short price. AAA Sports |

05-08-14 | Anaheim Ducks +125 v. Los Angeles Kings | Top | 3-2 | Push | 0 | 60 h 53 m | Show |
This is a 10* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the Anaheim Ducks. I took the Kings in Games 1 and 2, but look for the Ducks to put together their best effort of this series and to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night. This is a do or die game for Anaheim, a 3-0 hole to LA would be just too much for it to recover from: “The belief and the confidence in this group is pretty high," Ducks’ defenseman Cam Fowler said last night. "We know that a lot of people are counting us out right now, but that only fuels us." Anaheim knows how to beat LA, it just hasn’t in the playoffs yet; note that the Ducks would take four of five from the Kings in the regular season. Anaheim is making adjustments, we can expect to see Kyle Palmieri inserted back into the line-up to help get the Ducks offense untracked (note that Palmieri scored a career best 14 goals in the regular season and had five points in last years first round loss to the Wings/Palmieri has been held out as a healthy scratch the last four games). I think the pucks start bouncing in favor of Anaheim tonight: "We played pretty well in the first two games, and we remind ourselves of that," Ducks’ goaltender Jonas Hiller said yesterday. "I don't think many things need to change. We just need to keep our confidence." No need to overanalyze this selection in my opinion; Anaheim is coming off its best regular season in franchise history and I expect this talented group to respond to adversity. Great line value; play on the Ducks. AAA Sports |
|||||||
05-06-14 | Chicago Blackhawks -127 v. Minnesota Wild | 0-4 | Loss | -127 | 25 h 8 m | Show
This is an 8* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the Chicago Blackhawks. I have taken Chicago in the first two games of this series and I look for it turn up the pressure today and take a strangle hold on this Western Conference semi-finals match-up. Minnesota rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Avs in its opening round, but I simply don’t see that happening today. The defending champions are getting superb goaltending and their offensive pressure has been immense. When you throw in the fact that Chicago is extremely focused and won’t be overlooking the dangerous Wild in any way, the writing is clearly on the wall in my opinion: "Even when we're up 2-0 it doesn't mean anything," Chicago right wing Marian Hossa assessed yesterday. "You need to steal at least one game on their ice to get the series the way we want it to be." Chicago is rolling; after losing its first two games to the Blues, it hasn’t lost since April 19th and has outscored its competition 23-9 since. So while the ‘Hawks top lines have been producing on a nightly basis, the Wild’s top line has been anemic; Matt Moulson has one goal and one assist in nine playoff games while Jason Pominville has one goal and five assists. I believe the Wild have run out of gas and look for the champs to control this game from the outset, in my opinion, this is the very definition of great line value. Play on Chicago. AAA Sports |

05-05-14 | Los Angeles Kings +115 v. Anaheim Ducks | 3-1 | Win | 115 | 27 h 40 m | Show
This is an 8* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the LA Kings. I took the Kings in Game 1 and I like them to once again take care of business in Game 2. If you did not have a chance to read my Game 1 analysis, I believe it’s worth a quick read as it for the most part directly pertains to my selection today: LA went down three-straight to the Sharks in its opening round series, only to battle and win four in a row; suffice it to say, I believe that the momentum that the Kings have created is a very real thing and look for that confidence to be carried over into Game 1 of this Western Conference semi-finals match-up. These teams are very familiar with each other, but this is the first time in the 20 years they’ve both been in Southern California that they’ve squared off in the postseason. These teams are also very evenly matched up and down their line-ups, although I do think that the Kings have the advantage in net with a now razor-sharp Jonathon Quick back on track. The oddsmakers would agree, making the Ducks only a -130 to -140 favorite, meaning that home ice advantage is really the only supposed advantage that the Ducks have here. LA though just proved that home ice advantage means little to it, it convincingly thrashed the Sharks twice in San Jose. The Kings tough trademark defensive play shut down the Sharks and I expect the Ducks to run into the exact same buzzsaw of a unit. LA’s offense got untracked over those four games which is bad news for whichever goaltender starts for the home side, Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau yet to name a starter in either Jonas Hiller or rookie Frederik Andersen. For all of the reasons I’ve stated above, I’m jumping on the visitors. Great line value. The bottom line is, the Kings have shored up their defensive issues and are clicking offensively, this is a team with a ton of confidence and I feel it once again offers fantastic value tonight. Play on LA. AAA Sports |

05-04-14 | Minnesota Wild v. Chicago Blackhawks -199 | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 18 h 21 m | Show
This is a 5* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the Chicago Blackhawks. AAA Sports Has: -199 Worst Case Scenario Line: -215 I took the Blackhawks in Game 1 and if you did not have a chance to read that analysis, I believe it’s worth a second read as it actually also pertains directly to today’s selection: As with all of my playoff selections, this is a situationally based pick. Minnesota is a really good team, but it’s coming off a tough seven game series, including a double overtime win in Game 7; suffice it to say, I’m expecting the home side to take advantage and definitely feel it’s worth the price of admission in this situation. This is a rematch of last year’s playoffs, the Hawks would dispatch the Wild in five games. A big concern for Minnesota is the status of starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper who left midway through the third period with an undisclosed injury; backup Ilya Bryzgalov needed to make just one save in the final 13:15. Chicago meanwhile has been off since its Game 6 win over the Blues on Sunday; note that the entire team had two whole days off before returning to practice on Wednesday. The Wild on the other hand won Game 7, got on a plane to Chicago and is on an extrmely short turnaround for Game 1. More bad news for Wild fans is the fact that Chicago starting goaltender Corey Crawford is on fire, he had a shutout in Game 3 and stopped 35 in the series clinching 5-1 win on Sunday; note that Crawford is third in the league with a 1.98 GAA and a .935 save percantage in the postseason. There will be no complacency from the home side as the Blackhawks know full well how good Minnesota is, the Wild went 3-1-1 in the season series. As stated off the top, this is a great situation for the home side to exploit, Game 1 of the semi finals, look for the home side to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night and lay the price. Bottom line is, I feel that the Wild will still be gassed here, it’s a horrible situation for them as the Blackhawks are very well rested and now filled with confidence. In what will be a never in doubt laugher, I have no problem laying the price on Chicago. AAA Sports |

04-30-14 | Los Angeles Kings +125 v. San Jose Sharks | Top | 5-1 | Win | 125 | 25 h 25 m | Show |
This is a 10* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the LA Kings. The momentum has swung in favor of LA and I look for the Kings to pull off the monumental come back in Game 7. San Jose is rattled, it won the first three games of this series but has looked like a deer caught in the headlights ever since, LA has reeled off three straight and has San Jose on the ropes. Not only has LA’s offense been spectacular over the last three games, but star goaltender Jonahthan Quick has completely dominated after stumbling early. LA is the ninth team in league history to force a Game 7 after losing the first three and another quick start will be paramount, San Jose did not have a lead at any point in its three-straight losses. After going up, LA has then been able to clamp down defensively, effectively eliminating any odd-man rushes which the Sharks used to their advantage over the first three games. If you’re betting on this game, you are more than just a casual fan of hockey; the strengths, the weaknesses and the recent history between these clubs is well known to all NHL eficianado’s, for me, this selection comes down to a couple of simple things; I think that LA is currently getting better goaltending at the moment and believe that the momentum that it’s created is a very real thing. I’m on the Kings. AAA Sports |

04-28-14 | Colorado Avalanche v. Minnesota Wild -125 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 24 h 48 m | Show
This is an 8* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the Minnesota Wild. AAA Sports Has: -125 Worst Case Scenario Line: -145 I think Minnesota has been the better team in this series, it has however been extremely unfortunate. I think a little home cooking is what the doctor ordered and look for the Wild to make the most of this opportunity. two times over the first give games Minnesota has been less than 75 seconds away from a victory on the road, but each time the Avs would get the tying goal late in regulation and then win in OT. Minnesota is playing for its life now down 3-2: "The ups and downs of the playoffs are tough," Minnesota defenseman Ryan Suter said last night. "And it's who can recover the fastest to get back to level." I’m not reading too much into the fact that Colorado put more shots on goal that the Wild in Game 5 (35 compared to 32); note that it was in fact the first time in 10 matchups, including five in the regular season before the playoffs, that that has occured. Suffice it to say, I look for a return to normalcy here as the home side controls and dictates the pace of this contest from the opening face-off until the final horn (note that Minnesota outshot Colorado by a whopping 78-34 over Games 3 and 4). Minnesota goaltender Darcy Kuemper has stopped 78 of the 83 shots he’s faced over the 3.5 games he’s played since replacing Ilya Bryzgalov. Home ice has been pivotal so far in the Western Conference Playoffs and I think that strong trend continues here as we go to a seventh and deciding game in Colorado; lay the short price. AAA Sports |

04-27-14 | Anaheim Ducks +113 v. Dallas Stars | 5-4 | Win | 113 | 23 h 47 m | Show
This is an 8* “BLOCKBUSTER” on the Anaheim Ducks. AAA Sports Has: +113 Worst Case Scenario Line: -110 Dallas has been a nice story to this point but with a chance to close this series tonight, I’m expecting the “better” team to find a way to get the job done on the road. Anaheim comes in with plenty of experience in these situations as well; it held a 3-2 series lead and home-ice advnatage last year, but the favored Ducks were unable to close out the Wings. The Ducks were sharp on the power-play on Friday, tallying four goals with the man advantage while holding Dallas without a goal on seven of its chances. Anaheim looked a lot better with Ryan Getzlaf back in the line-up, both he and Corey Perry had a goal and two assists: “It's about maintaining our focus. When we got to Dallas last time, we got a little revved up and got into some things that weren't part of our game," said Getzlaf afterwards. "We did a better job of focusing on what we need to do, and we need to do that next game." Note that Dallas has scored on only two of its 22 power-play chances in this series: “We've got all the talent in the world on this team, but you've got to take it to a different level in the playoffs," Ducks center Nick Bonino said last night. "We know that, and now we have to show it. Now that we've got a chance to clinch, we want to do it." In my opinion, this is the very definition of “great line value”; play on Anaheim. AAA Sports |

04-25-14 | Dallas Stars v. Anaheim Ducks -157 | 2-6 | Win | 100 | 24 h 27 m | Show
This is an 8* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the Anaheim Ducks. AAA Sports Has: -155 Worst Case Scenario Line: -167 This has been a really interesting series, the Ducks took Games 1 and 2, but Dallas has battled back and evened it up. I think Anaheim bounces back and here takes the pivotal fifth game of this Opening Round series. "We need to settle in as a team and play with confidence," Anaheim forward Andrew Cogliano assessed yesterday. "There's a reason why we finished in first place. We get to play back in our building, and we should feel confident here." We could definitely see a goaltender change for the home side as well, Ducks’ rookie netminder Frederick Anderson allowed four goals in Game 4 and was pulled; look for veteran Jonas Hiller to step in seamlessly: “Having quite a few games under my belt, that definitely helps me to find game mode," Hiller said yesterday. We can also expect to see Teemu Selanne back in the lineup after he was benched in Game 4. Dallas has been a great story so far, but I think its “star” gets snuffed out in Game 5. I’m laying the chalk on what I believe will be a highly motivated and focused home side. Play on Anaheim. AAA Sports |

04-24-14 | Boston Bruins -139 v. Detroit Red Wings | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 23 h 58 m | Show
This is a 7* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the Boston Bruins. Detroit is in the midst of its worst three-game start in any playoff series since the 1945 Stanley Cup Finals; suffice it to say, I look for the Bruins to keep on the pressure and to once again pull away down the stretch for the comfortable victory. After losing the first game at home, Boston has looked dominant ever since, it’s backchecking effectively, it’s blocking shots and it’s been getting superb goaltending from Tuukka Rask; the result has been two straight wins by a combined score of 7-1. Boston is simply too deep, it’s getting production from both its veterans and its younger players; the Bruins Dougie Hamilton (20 years old), scored his first playoff goal in Game 3 and Jordan Caron (23 years old), had his first postseason point. Rask has certainly outplayed his counterpart Jimmy Howard who has looked pretty shaky at times in this series. No upset in Game 4, the “better” team wins. Lay the very reasonable price as the Bruins move one step closer to another Stanley Cup Final. AAA Sports |

The defending champs returned home and won 2-0 in Game 3 and now trail the Blues 2-1. History is repeating itself for St. Louis it would seem as it would dominate the Kings by going up 2-0 in its opening round series last year, only to then go on to lose the next four games. Let’s be honest, this series has been extremely close, there’s no reason to think that the Blackhawks couldn’t be up 3-0 at this point after losing the first two games in St. Louis in overtime. A major setback for St. Louis is the continued absence of injured forward David Backes: “Going forward Game 4 has always a big one when the series is 2-1," Chicago sharp-shooter Patrick Kane said yesterday. "It's seems like a totally different series whether it's 3-1 or 2-2. The next game is huge." Chicago has the momentum and the huge advantage of playing on home ice; look for the ‘Hawks to jump out to an early lead, to keep the foot on the gas and to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night. Lay the price.

AAA Sports Has: -125

In 2013’s Western Conference semi-finals, these teams played and the home side would prevail in each, LA managing to gut out the series victory in 7 games. I believe this pattern holds up again this season and look for LA to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night. There’s no question that Kings’ star goaltender Jonathan Quick has struggled to start, but Quick is a wily veteran and I look for him to feed off the controversy and to put together his best effort so far in this series. LA has experience in this position, the same thing happened in last year’s playoffs when they lost two road contests in St. Louis, only to then advance to their second straight Western Conference finals." You've got to park it," LA’s Jarrot Stoll assessed yesterday. "You've got to move on. ... You prepare for the game like it's any other, but you can look back and see the situation you're in. We know what we need from the guys. We just haven't got it up to this point." A date at home is just what the doctor ordered for LA as it’s 10-0-1 vs. San Jose at the Staples Center over the past three years. I think the two poor defensive games are an anomoly, LA allowed fewer goals than any team in the league during the regular season. The Sharks are a big, fast and extremely deep team, but I think that the desperation level that the home side plays with tonight will wind up being the difference; lay the short price.

AAA Sports Has: -155

The Flyers will once again be without their No. 1 goaltender Steve Mason, and as such, I look for the home side to come out with an extreme sense of focus as it looks to take full advantage of this situation. That means that Ray Emery is back between the pipes for the visitors after he lost 4-1 in the opener. The Rangers were dominant in all phases of Game 1, limiting Phildelphia to just 15 shots: "We know our game plan works if we all buy into it and we all do the same things," New York star forward Rick Nash assessed afterwards. To say New York has dominated this series of late would be an understatement, it’s won nine-straight at home over the Flyers, which includes a 3-0 mark this year. It comes as no surprise to learn that the Blue Shirts have outscored the Flyers 35-10 during the win streak and allowed two goals or fewer in each of the nine victories. The bottom line when handicapping a NHL series is starting goaltending; New York has a massive advantage here with Henrik Lundqvist. I think when you take all of the above factors into consideration, we’re getting excellenct line value on the proven home side; lay the mid-sized price.

Neither team played very well in Game 1, and it certainly could have gone either way. I like the Blackhawks to bounce back from the 4-3 triple OT setback. Everyone played a lot in that game obviously and fatigue will be a factor here. Blues goaltender Ryan Miller gave up three goals on seven shots in the first period, but would recover to make 32 saves in a row. I think the ‘Hawks Corey Crawford will bounce back and take advantage of his tired and much older counterpart; Crawford would make 48 saves. So in this evenly matched game, where both teams have play on the short turnaround, where is the advantage? I think it’s experience. Chicago would play six OT games en route to the Cup last year and went 4-2; suffice it to say, there won’t be any panic in the Blackhawks dressing room. Expect the Champs to do just enough and to take this series back to Chicago tied at 1-1. Play on the Blackhawks.

Boston won the Presidents’ Trohpy and I’m fully expecting the “best” team in the league to take care of business in Game 1 on its own rink. It’s true that the Wings went 3-1 against the Bruins this year, but Boston is just too big and too deep and has an extreme advantage with home ice throughout the playoffs. Boston has struggled a bit in the playoffs over the last few years, a lot of the lower seeds taking it to the full seven games: “We certainly learned from all those Game 7s that we've had to go through in the first round that it is important to be on top of your game at the end of the year and not limp in to the playoffs," Boston coach Claude Julien said yesterday, "which I thought we did at times after we solidified our playoff spot. So, again, nothing is guaranteed in the playoffs. You've got to work for your goals. Just because you got them during the season doesn't mean you're necessarily going to get them automatically in the playoffs." One major factor that one has to look at when handicapping a game is the men between the pipe; Boston’s Tuukka Rask led the NHL with seven shutouts and was second with a 9.30 save percentage. The Wings’ Jimmy Howard was ranked 36th with a 9.10 save percentage. Another difference maker for the home side is its vastly improved powerplay unit which finished third in the league this year by scoring on 21.7 percent of its opportunities. And once again, the Wings are well below that mark, 18th in the league at 17.7 percent. Boston is stacked from top to bottom and I have a hard time seeing Detroit slowing down the line of Milan Lucic, David Krejci and Jarome Iginla. No upsets here. Lay the price.

04-11-14 | Colorado Avalanche v. San Jose Sharks -166 | 1-5 | Win | 100 | 11 h 17 m | Show
This is a 4* “BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the San Jose Sharks.
Colorado is coming off a 4-2 win at Vancouver on Thursday and it’s currently on an 8-0-1 stretch as it leads the Central Division. I look for the surging Avs to come up short tonight though against a home side which is looking to avenge a couple of earlier losses and to also get untracked as it tries to build some momentum into the post-season. Colorado is in a dog fight but this is just a horrible situation for it; after playing just 24 hours previous it hits the road to play in San Jose, a place that it’s managed 17 goals during an 0-7-4 regular season slide there. San Jose beat the Avs 5-4 at home on December 23rd but dropped a pair of one-goal games in Colorado (note that San Jose is 17-10 this year in revenging a loss vs. an opponent). San Jose is coming off a 5-2 loss at Anaheim, but definitely catches a break in facing this tired opponent. I’m laying the price and expecting a lop-sided beatdown. AAA Sports |

04-09-14 | Los Angeles Kings -139 v. Calgary Flames | 3-4 | Loss | -139 | 24 h 3 m | Show
This is an 8* “MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the LA Kings.
Calgary has relished playing the role of spoiler and it was superb on the road, it’s won three-straight including a 1-0 win over New Jersey on Monday. I had the Devils in that one. I also had the over in that one. I think the Flames will finally falter here now that they’ve returned home and look for the Kings to take full advantage. LA needs to build some momentum to finish the season, it’s lost two in a row and three of four, including a 2-1 setback to the Canucks on Saturday: “We have to bear down. We took three penalties and they scored on one of them," Kings’ forward Marian Gaborik said after. "We can't have breakdowns in our zone. We have to get ready and make sure it doesn't happen. We're heading into playoffs. These game situations can cost us big so we have to figure it out and make sure we bear down and are strong on pucks in front of our net,” (note that LA is already 3-1, +1.4 units this year when playing with three or more days rest). Note that LA has had its way with Calgary, it’s taken the last two meetings with the Flames, both on the road. While Flames’ goaltender Karri Ramo has been decent of late, remember he posted a horrid 3.54 GAA over a four game losing streak previous (and note that Calgary is 4-7, -2.2 units after playing three consecutive road games this year). After taking all of the above factors into consideration, I’m going to lay the reasonable mid-sized price, expecting the visitors to play with a sense of desperation and for the home side to have a letdown. Play on LA. AAA Sports |

04-08-14 | Detroit Red Wings -195 v. Buffalo Sabres | 4-2 | Win | 100 | 20 h 10 m | Show
This is a 5* “BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the Detroit Red Wings.
I had three bad reads on the ice last night. I think that the Wings will find a way to get the job done here though and believe they’re definitely worth the price of admission. Detroit holds its destiny in its hands as it looks to close the season strong and punch its ticket to the postseason for a 23rd straight time. Detroit still holds the top-wild card spot by one point over Columbus. The Wings will be eager to atone for a 5-3 loss in Montreal on Saturday; note that Detroit actually had a 37-26 advantage in shots and scored twice on the power-play but Jonas Gustavsson would stop just 21 of 26 shots in that. A game vs. the lowly and injured Sabres is just what the doctor ordered, the Wings have owned this series and have taken seven straight, including three this year (note that Detroit is 12-9, +1.5 units after a loss by 2 goals or more in its previous contest). Buffalo will be without the services of defenseman Chad Ruhwedel and goaltender Nathan Lieuwen today after each suffered concussions in the Sabres 5-2 loss at Philadelphia. That means that Matt Hackett will be between the pipes for the home side; Hackett is just 1-3-1 with a pedestrian 3.23 GAA in five starts since being re-called to the big show. Conversely though, note that Wings’ goaltender Jimmy Howard has won all five career starts vs. Buffalo with one shutout with a 1.20 GAA (and note that Buffalo is just 13-28, -10 units in trying to revenge a loss vs. an opponent). No need to overanalyze this one, there are overwhelming factors working in favor of the visitors and after carefully going over all of the details listed above, I’m going to lay the price confidently. 04-07-14 | Calgary Flames v. New Jersey Devils -158 | 1-0 | Loss | -158 | 23 h 42 m | Show
This is a 5* “BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the New Jersey Devils.
While the Devils will need some help to make the post-season this year, the one thing they can control is their own performance, and they’ll look to take advantage of a Flames team which is simply playing out the string. This is the final stretch for New Jersey; the Devils were six points out of a wild-card spot in the East on March 23rd, and despite dropping a critical one in a shootout loss to Buffalo on Tuesday, they’ve picked up 11 of a possible 14 points to stay within striking distance. Calgary was eliminated from playoff contention last week, but is actually 17-11-0 since January 22nd, most recently coming off a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay on Thursday, followed by a 2-1 win at Florida the following night: “It's a big win," Flames’ coach Bob Hartley said after. "I don't care that we're not making the playoffs, I don't care that we're at the end of the season. It's an investment. We're asking the guys to play playoff hockey and I think we showed that tonight,” (note though that Calgary is a poor 3-7, -3.5 units after playing three consecutive road games this year). No need to overanalyze this one, the Flames are already eyeing the golf course, while New Jersey will be playing with an extreme sense of desperation (note that New Jersey is 21-15, +7.1 units in revenging a loss vs. an opponent this season; the Devils fell 3-2 in Calgary back on November 11th). After taking all of the above information into consideration, I’m going to lay what I feel is a pretty reasonable price all things considered. AAA Sports |

04-06-14 | NY Islanders v. Columbus Blue Jackets -219 | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 20 h 53 m | Show
This is a 4* “BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
No need to overanalyze this play; this is a prime opportunity for the home side which catches an Islanders team off a game just 24 hours previous. Columbus has never made the playoffs but needs to start stringing some wins together with just a few games remaining. Most recently the Blue Jackets are coming off a disheartening 4-3 loss to Chicago on Friday. Despite that setback, the Jackets still hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with a one-point lead over the Maple Leafs and Devils. "I went in and told the players, `It's a hard loss but we've got to move past it," Columbus coach Todd Richards said after. "You can't let your highs get too high. And right now we can't let the lows get too low. This group has been pretty resilient all year. There's been times all year when people have counted us out and the guys have responded." And despite having won only two of his last seven starts, Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky owns a solid 2.20 GAA average; note that he’s 9-2-0 with a 2.00 GAA lifetime vs. the Isles. If history is any precedence, then an immediate return to the winners circle is in store for the home side as it’s 11-2-3 with one tie all time in this series, which includes going 7-0-1 with one tie at home (note that Columbus is 25-14, +9.6 units vs. teams with losing records). The Isles were eliminated from post-season contention last week and are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to Washington last night. Note that the Isles are without leading scorer Kyle Okposo and captain John Tavares with injury (and note that New York is a poor 9-18, -8.2 units vs. division opponents this year). I’m laying the price and expecting a completely lop-sided rout. AAA |

04-04-14 | Edmonton Oilers v. Phoenix Coyotes -200 | 3-2 | Loss | -200 | 24 h 16 m | Show
This is a 5* “BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Edmonton Oilers (26-42-9) is coming off a 2-3 loss at the Anaheim Ducks. Edmonton dropped to 12-22-6 on the road. The Oilers blew a two goal lead in this game as Philip Larson and Jordan Eberle scored the first couple goals of the game. The Phoenix Coyotes (36-28-13) is coming off a 0-4 loss at LA. Thomas Greiss stopped 28 shots for the Coyotes, whose playoff hopes have been hurt by three straight losses. It’s must win time for the Coyotes and I expect the team gets in done here as it returns to Glendale to take on an Oilers team just ripe for the picking. As I state before, the Oilers a very poor road team while the Coyotes are an impressive 21-13-4 on home ice. The Oilers, at the bottom of the conference standings, have had difficulty stopping everyone lately. They've allowed 34.7 shots per game while surrendering at least three goals in each contest during a 1-6-0 stretch. Phoenix is 4-1 at home playing the Oilers the last three seasons and took the season's first four matchups. They totaled 19 goals and scored four on 13 power-play chances while Edmonton went 1 for 14. Lay the juice to get the easy win here with a desperate home team. AAA |

04-03-14 | Columbus Blue Jackets v. Philadelphia Flyers -144 | 2-0 | Loss | -144 | 17 h 15 m | Show
This is a 7* “SITUATIONAL MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Columbus Blue Jackets (38-30-7) is coming off a 2-3 OT loss to Colorado at home. Cam Atkinson and Blake Comeau scored in the second period for Columbus, which is hanging on to the second wild-card spot and eighth playoff seed in the Eastern Conference. It was big point earned for the Jackets who are in a race for a Wild Card spot in the west. The Philadelphia Flyers (39-27-9) is coming off a 0-1 SO loss at St. Louis. The Flyers earned a big point as well as Ray Emery stopped all 28 shots he saw in regulation time. Both teams are coming off OT losses but I expect it is the home team Flyers who bounce back with a win here. The Flyers have lost two in row now but note that both games went into OT and the Flyers outshot their opponent in both games and were a little bit unfortunate not to get outright wins. While the Blue Jackets are desperate for a win here so are the Flyers who could fall into Wildcard positions if they can’t hold off a fast charging Red Wings team. The Flyers come into this game with added motivation of revenge having lost two straight to the Blue Jackets on the road. Philadelphia is 17-11 when revenging a loss this season Columbus is just 13-20 when playing teams with a winning record this season and are perhaps a little overvalued. Lay the fair price to get Philadelphia. AAA |

04-02-14 | Phoenix Coyotes v. Los Angeles Kings -170 | 0-4 | Win | 100 | 24 h 14 m | Show
This is a 5* “BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT” on the LA Kings.
The Phoenix Coyotes (36-27-13) is coming off a 1-2 SO loss last night at home to Winnipeg. Zbynek Michalek scored the lone goal for the Coyotes and Tomas Greiss stopped 21 shots in a losing effort. The LA Kings (44-26-6) is looking to bounce back from a 2-3 loss at home to Minnesota on Monday. Alec Martinez and Justin Williams scored for Los Angeles, both capitalizing on turnovers by Minnesota. Jonathan Quick stopped 17 shots. While the Coyotes were playing well into extra time at home last night, the Kings were idle and stewing off a loss at home in wait of the Coyotes. I think we see a hungry Kings Team take to it the “tire” legs of the Coyotes in this game. Also note that the Kings come into this game looking to revenge a 3-4 loss to the Coyotes back on March 17th. Keep in the mind that despite the loss to Phoenix the last time this matchup was held at Staples, the Kings still hold a strong 6-3 advantage when hosting Phoenix. The Kings had won five straight before blowing two leads to the Wild on Monday. Look for a rebound here from a very strong Kings team. Lay the price on the Kings and get the easy win. AAA |

04-01-14 | NY Rangers v. Vancouver Canucks +116 | 3-1 | Loss | -100 | 26 h 50 m | Show
This is an 8* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the Vancouver Canucks.
The New York Rangers (42-30-4) is coming off a 5-0 win over Edmonton on Sunday night. Backup goaltender Cam Talbot stopped 26 shots for his third career shutout and Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello scored two goals apiece Sunday to lead the Rangers to their sixth win in seven games. The Vancouver Canucks (34-31-11) is coming off a 1-5 beat down at the hands of Anaheim. Corey Perry and Saku Koivu each had a goal and an assist and Frederik Andersen made 31 saves in the win. This game has some interesting storylines as this marks the first time former Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault will return to Van as the coach of another team. Everyone to this point has said that “AV” was the smart one as the Rangers are a playoff team and the Canucks aren’t. In a weird coincidence, these teams actually traded head coaches over the offseason. While Canucks John Tortorella has had to answer questions about it all week, I think his team has the advantage here and will get the job done. The Canucks have had a full two days off before this game and is calling it a must win game with a sliver of hope in making the playoffs still alive. The Canucks are 10-6 SU in games after having two days rest in between. Note the Rangers could suffer a letdown here as the team is just 3-4 in games following a shutout of their opponent. This is the second game in a row the Canucks have been the underdog at home and I think they finally prevail here. Take the Canucks at plus money. AAA |

This is an 8* “EAST-COAST EXPRESS” on the Ottawa Senators.
The Carolina Hurricanes (32-32-10) is coming off a 3-2 OT loss at home to Columbus. Jeff Skinner and Andrei Loktionov scored and Riley Nash had two assists for the Hurricanes, who fell to 6-11 since the Olympic break. The Ottawa Senators (31-29-14) is coming off a 6-3 win last night at home over Calgary. Milan Michalek and Kyle Turris had two goals apiece to lead Ottawa. Both these teams have had disappointing seasons to this date but it is the Sens that are playing better right now. The Senators have won three of four coming into this game. Ottawa has strong motivation revenge 6-1 and 4-1 losses to the Hurricanes earlier this season. With a win here the Senators can move closer to .500 at home this season (15-15-6). The Hurricanes are just 15-17-4 on the road this season. Neither team is counting themselves out of a playoff spot but really it is only the Sens that have a small chance. Take Ottawa at decent price at home to get the revenge win. AAA |

This is an 8* “SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION” on the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Boston Bruins (51-17-6) is coming off a 4-2 win over Washington last night. Jarome Iginla scored twice to record yet another 30 goal season in his illustrious career. Chad Johnson made 31 saves in the win. Philadelphia Flyers (39-27-7) is coming off 4-2 win over Toronto on Friday at home. Vinny Lecavalier, Scott Hartnell, Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds scored goals. While the Bruins were playing in Washington last night the Flyers were home idle and I expect the team to come out hard here in a big Sunday game. Philly is looking to revenge an embarrassing 6-1 loss to the Bruins at home the last time these teams met and I think is an excellent opportunity. The Flyers are a strong 6-3 in revenging a home loss to an opponent this season. Boston locked up the Atlantic Division with the win last night and it would be very easy to letdown here the very next day. Philadelphia is playing with playoff seeding on the line. Take the home team Flyers while getting plus money here in a game where to team likely should be the favorite. AAA |

This is a 1* Free Play on the Ottawa Senators. @7:30 EST
The Red Wings were on the road in Montreal last night and will be hard pressed to win this game against an idle Senators squad here. The Red Wings put on a nice show at the Bell center last night, outshooting the home team Canadians 30-20. Still, despite the impressive win we have to take into account that the team is missing arguably their best player in Henrik Zetterberg and now have to play the second in a row on the road. The Senators went into the Olympic break on a sour note as the team fell to Boston 2-7 on the road and will be looking to bounce back from that. Ottawa comes in knowing it lost the last meeting with Detroit but have won two of the last three between these teams overall. Keep an eye out for Senators star defensemen Erik Karlsson. Karlsson has managed at least one point in each of his five career meetings with the Red Wing and seven overall. Karlsson had four assists over the previous two meetings, both wins in Detroit. Consider paying the decent price to get Ottawa here. AAA |

02-27-14 | Chicago Blackhawks -125 v. NY Rangers | 1-2 | Loss | -125 | 22 h 23 m | Show
This is a 9* play on the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Chicago Blackhawks (35-11-14) The Blackhawks went 3-1-1 heading into the break but were blanked 2-0 by Phoenix on Feb. 7 while Kane attended his grandfather's funeral. The Blackhawks sent a number of players to Sochi and four players played in the Gold Medal game. The New York Rangers (32-24-3) hope to pick up where they left off before the break, as Girardi had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 shootout win over Pittsburgh on Feb. 7 for their fifth victory in six games. Lundqvist made 26 saves in that contest, but Vigneault announced that Cam Talbot will get the start against Chicago. The Hawks are a strong 17-7-7 on the road this year and come in with the better team with or without the Olympic Break. The Hawks also come in with revenge motivation after losing a 3-2 decision in Chicago to the Rangers on Jan. 8. The Hawks are 9-7 when revenging a loss to an opponent this season. Note Chicago is a strong 12-7 against the Eastern Conference this season while the Rangers are 9-10 in comparison. The defending Stanley Cup Champions have a way of starting faster than other teams due in most part by its |

02-27-14 | San Jose Sharks -115 v. Philadelphia Flyers | 7-3 | Win | 100 | 22 h 22 m | Show
This is a 9* play on the San Jose Sharks.
The San Jose Sharks (37-16-6) won three of four before the break after beating Columbus 3-2 on Feb. 8, then the majority of the team took some time off as forwards Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski, defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic and starting goalie Antti Niemi headed to the Olympics. The Philadelphia Flyers (30-23-6) were also surging going into the break with four straight wins. After putting its winning streak to the side, Philadelphia plays three games in four days after the long break. Forwards Michael Raffl and Jakub Voracek, and defensemen Kimmo Timonen, Andrej Meszaros and Mark Streit all were on Olympic rosters. The Sharks look to avenge that loss and I think we see it happen here as the team is a lot more healthy how that they had the time off. Star center Logan Couture returns to the lineup and is having a career year. Sharks goalie Antti Niemi will look to bounce back here as well against a team he has had some success against. Niemi is 7-3-0 with a 2.12 goals-against average in his last 10 starts despite being pulled after allowing four goals against Philadelphia. San Jose's only blemish this month was a 5-2 loss to the Flyers on Feb. 3. Note the Sharks are a strong 3-0 when revenging a home loss to an opponent this season and 11-5 when revenging any kind of loss. The Flyers are just 9-11 versus teams with a winning record this season and 2-4 after a three game unbeaten streak. Lay the short price to get San Jose. AAA |

02-27-14 | Columbus Blue Jackets v. New Jersey Devils -130 | 2-5 | Win | 100 | 22 h 22 m | Show
This is a 9* play on the New Jersey Devils.
The Columbus Blue Jackets (29-24-5) returns from the break tied with Washington for fourth place in the Metropolitan Division with 63 points. That total also puts it slightly behind Detroit for the final wild-card berth in the Eastern Conference. The New Jersey Devils (24-22-13) are also within striking distance of the playoffs, though they will have to pass five other teams in the conference to claim a wild-card berth. New Jersey was in the midst of a 2-0-2 stretch before falling 3-0 in its last game before the Olympics at Washington. The Devils are 5-1-1 in their last seven home games, giving up one goal or none in five of those and I expect they find a way to come away with a victory here. The first game back from a long break in the season is always tough but the Devils do have the distinct advantage of home cooking here where they are 13-7-7 on the season. The Jackets did manage a 2-1 win here in the Meadowlands back in late December but I am expecting a revenge effort from the Devils. New Jersey is 6-2 when revenging a home loss to an opponent. Lay the decent price here to get the Devils. AAA |

02-08-14 | New Jersey Devils v. Washington Capitals -140 | 0-3 | Win | 100 | 23 h 7 m | Show
This is a 9* "NO BRAINER" on the Washington Capitals.
The New Jersey Devils (24-21-13) is coming off a 2-1 OT win over Edmonton at home just last night. Jon Merrill scored the OT winner and Cory Schneider made 19 saves and Andrei Loktionov scored in regulation for the Devils. The Washington Capitals (26-23-9) is coming off a 4-3 win at home over the Winnipeg Jets Alex Ovechkin scored his 40th goal of the season and Braden Holtby made 34 saves in the win. The Devils came away with a win at home last night late in the game but should suffer a letdown here having to play on back to back nights with this one being on the road. The Devils aren |

02-07-14 | Edmonton Oilers v. New Jersey Devils -167 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 24 h 52 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the New Jersey Devils.
The Edmonton Oilers (20-33-6) is coming off a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers. Ryan Smyth and Nail Yakupov scored goals while Ben Scrivens made a 35 saves to get the win. The New Jersey Devils (23-21-13) looks to bounce back off a 1-2 OT loss at home to Colorado. Ryan Carter scored the lone goal for the Devils and Cory Schneider made 23 saves as the hard luck loser. The games are huge for the Devils here if they want to make the playoffs and I expect them to take full advantage of a road tripping Edmonton team that played just last night. Note the Oilers had no business winning in New York as the team got badly outshot and outplayed in every aspect except for on the scoreboard. It is unlikely their goalie can save them two nights in a row. The Devils also come in motivated by revenge as the team lost a 5-4 game in Edmonton back in December. The Devils are 13-11 when revenging a loss to an opponent this season. Lay the juice on the rested Devils. AAA |

02-06-14 | Toronto Maple Leafs v. Tampa Bay Lightning -159 | 4-1 | Loss | -159 | 20 h 58 m | Show
This is a 5* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Toronto Maple Leafs (30-22-6) is coming off a 1-4 loss to the Florida Panthers. David Clarkson had the goal for Toronto, and Jonathan Bernier stopped 44 shots in a losing effort. The Tampa Bay Lightning (32-19-5) is coming off a 1-2 loss at Minnesota. Valteri Filppula scored the lone goal for the Bolts and Ben Bishop made 24 saves in the loss. The Lightning is coming home off a long western road trip and I expect the team to be reenergised here playing a back at home for the first time in a quite some while. The Toronto Maple Leafs lost in Florida on Tuesday and is just 10-12-5 on the road this season. Tampa Bay is very strong home team with a 16-6-3 record in friendly confines. The Bolts are 7-5 in games after being held to one goal while the Leafs are just 6-8 in that same situation. The Leafs beat the Bolts in the last meeting between these teams in Toronto and I expect there to be a measure of revenge here for Tampa as motivation. Lay reasonable juice to get Tampa Bay. AAA |

02-03-14 | Vancouver Canucks +105 v. Detroit Red Wings | 0-2 | Loss | -100 | 27 h 11 m | Show
This is a 5* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Vancouver Canucks (20-7-9) is coming off a 3-4 loss at Winnipeg. Ryan Kesler had a goal and two assists while Jason Garrison and Alex Edler chipped in with goals as well. Eddie Lack made 30 saves in a losing cause. The Detroit Red Wings (24-19-12) come off a 5-6 OT loss at Washington just yesterday. Gustav Nyquist had his first career hat trick and added an assist, and Tomas Tatar and Justin Abdelkader also scored for the Red Wings, who at least managed to end a long scoring drought away from home. Jimmy Howard stopped 22 shots. The Red Wings are coming off a bit of disheartening loss in OT yesterday and will be in tough here against a desperate Canucks team. Note that Vancouver gets its |

02-03-14 | Ottawa Senators v. Pittsburgh Penguins -202 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 27 h 39 m | Show
This is a 5* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Ottawa Senators (24-21-10) is coming off a 3-6 loss at Toronto. Chris Neil scored twice and Craig Anderson had 32 saves in a losing cause. The Pittsburgh Penguins (38-15-2) is coming off a 1-3 loss at Phoenix. Evgeni Malkin scored and Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves in a losing cause. The last time these two teams met it was a 5-0 crushing win for the Senators over the Penguins but I expect a different outcome this time. Note the Penguins are 9-1 when revenging a loss to an opponent this season and is 5-1 against the Senators when hosting them the last three seasons. 22-4 at home this season and Ottawa is just 12-10 on the road. Furthermore, the Penguins are a profitable 17-5 against divisional opponent this season. Ottawa has lost five of its |

02-01-14 | Florida Panthers v. Columbus Blue Jackets -165 | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 17 h 46 m | Show
This is a 5* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Florida Panthers (21-26-7) is coming off a 3-6 loss at Toronto. Nick Bjugstad and Sean Bergenheim scored in the first for Florida (21-25-7), and Dmitry Kulikov had a third-period goal. Scott Clemmensen made 26 saves. The Columbus Blue Jackets (27-23-4) is coming off a 5-2 win over Washington at home. Ryan Johansson scored twice and the Jackets stopped a three game losing streak. The Jackets lost a couple close games to add to that streak but this is a team that is very good at home and is generally playing some good hockey this month. The Panthers have lost two in row and are playing the final game of a three game road trip here. Florida, which was coming off that blowout loss to Boston on Tuesday, received another lackluster goaltending performance as Scott Clemmensen made 26 stops. He and Tim Thomas have combined for a 4.75 goals-against average and .852 save percentage over the last four games. The Jackets are 13-8-1 against the division while the Panthers are just 11-15-3 on the road. Lay the reasonable price to get Columbus. AAA |

01-30-14 | Buffalo Sabres v. Phoenix Coyotes -200 | 3-2 | Loss | -200 | 25 h 29 m | Show
This is a 5* play on the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Buffalo Sabres (14-30-8) is coming off a 4-5 OT loss to Washington. Cody Hodgson had two goals and Christian Ehrhoff and rookie Phil Varone, with the first of his career, also scored for Buffalo. The Sabres (14-30-8) dropped to 1-4-3 in their past eight. The Phoenix Coyotes (26-18-10) is coming off a strong 3-0 win over the LA Kings at home. Thomas Greiss made 30 saves the shut out. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored twice in the win. The Coyotes are the favorite here for a very good reason. The Coyotes are a very strong 15-8-3 in home games this season while the Sabres are a horrific 5-15-3 in road games this season. The Sabres got a 2-1 win at home over the Coyotes in December and this has given us the revenge factor for Phoenix. Ryan Miller was the only reason Buffalo came away with the win as he stopped 36 shots to steal the win. Phoenix is a strong 12-8 revenging a loss to an opponent. Buffalo is just 4-12 in non conference games this season this season. Lay juice to get what looks like an excellent opportunity for Phoenix to get the win. AAA |

The Washington Capitals (24-21-8) is coming off a 5-4 OT win over Buffalo. Mike Green had two goals and an assist, and Troy Brouwer added a goal and assist and Alex Ovechkin added two goals. Braden Holtby made 23 saves. The Columbus Blue Jackets (26-23-4) is coming off a 2-3 loss at home to Ottawa. The Blue Jackets, playing their third game in four nights and second of a back-to-back, looked tired and sluggish most of the evening just couldn |

01-24-14 | Colorado Avalanche -110 v. Florida Panthers | Top | 3-2 | Win | 100 | 26 h 7 m | Show |
This is a 10* "SUPER REVENGE DESTRUCTION" on the Colorado Avalanche.
The Colorado Avalanche (31-13-5) come off a 2-5 loss at home to Toronto. Rookie Nathan MacKinnon scored two goals for the Avalanche in a losing effort and Jean-Sebastien Giguere had 19 saves in relief of Semyon Varlamov. The Florida Panthers (20-23-7) come off a 4-3 win at Buffalo. Ed Jovanoski had a goal and an assist. Veteran goalie Tim Thomas stopped 32 shots, including 15 in the final period to improve to 7-3-2 in his past 12. The Avalanche had won four straight before the big loss to the Leafs so I am expecting a bounce back effort here. The Panthers beat the Avalanche 4-1 in Colorado back in November so revenge is strong on the minds of the Colorado players. Colorado is 12-5 in non-conference games this season while Florida is just 7-12 in the same spot. When playing with a team with a winning record, the Panthers are just 7-14. Lay small juice to get Colorado here. AAA |

01-23-14 | Toronto Maple Leafs v. Dallas Stars -139 | 1-7 | Win | 100 | 25 h 34 m | Show
This is an 8* play on the Dallas Stars.
The Toronto Maple Leafs (20-7-5) comes in off a 5-2 win over Colorado on the road. Phil Kessel scored twice and James van Riemsdyke had a goal and an assist for the red hot Leafs. James Reimer made 35 saves and was fantastic in the win. The Dallas Stars (22-20-8) comes off a much needed 4-0 SO win over the Minnesota Wild. Erik Cole and Ray Whitney scored power-play goals, and the Stars stopped a three-game losing streak. Kari Lehtonen made 18 saves in the shutout win. The Stars snapped a three game slide with the win and I expect we see the team ride some momentum here with a road tripping Leafs team in town. Dallas has revenge on its |

01-21-14 | NY Islanders v. NY Rangers -167 | 5-3 | Loss | -167 | 24 h 57 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the New York Rangers.
The New York Islanders (20-24-7) comes off a 4-3 SO win over Philadelphia last night. Kyle Okposo scored the tying goal on a power play late in regulation and then netted the decisive tally in the shootout for the Islanders and also assisted on a John Tavares goal. The New York Rangers (27-21-3) comes off a 4-1 win at home over Washington on Sunday. Rick Nash continued to play well with two goals and Henrik Lundvqvist was rock solid in making 24 saves. These two teams have been rolling of late but the Rangers have a couple of big advantages that should help them pull out this game. The Rangers have won six of their last seven games. The Islanders will be playing its |

01-18-14 | Anaheim Ducks v. St. Louis Blues -144 | 3-2 | Loss | -144 | 27 h 6 m | Show
This is a 9* "SITUATIONAL SUPER-DESTRUCTION" on the St. Louis Blues.
The Anaheim Ducks (26-9-5) comes off a 2-4 loss at Chicago. Kyle Palmeiri and Ryan Getlaf scored goals in a loss. The St. Louis Blues (32-9-5) comes off a 1-4 loss at home to the LA Kings. T.J Oshie had the lone goal for the Blues and Jaroslav Halak made 27 saves in a losing effort. The Blues are coming off a rare loss at home and I expect the team to bounce back here as the team will be highly motivated to beat the best team (record wise) in the Western Conference. The Blues are 7-2 SU after allowing four goals or more in the previous game. Furthermore, the Blues are a profitable 5-1 in games after scoring one goal or more in the previous game this season. This game comes as major revenge as well as the Ducks scored 5 goals on their way to a 5-2 win in St. Louis the last time these teams played here. Note the Blues are 18-4-2 in home games this season and should be able to get a win here against a Ducks team that played just last night on the road in a very tough place to play in Chicago against the defending Stanley Cup Champs. Lay the extra juice to get the home team here. AAA |

01-17-14 | Anaheim Ducks v. Chicago Blackhawks -126 | Top | 2-4 | Win | 100 | 26 h 37 m | Show |
This is a 10* "ART OF THE GAME" on the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Anaheim Ducks (36-8-5) come off a 9-1 beat down at home over Vancouver. Corey Perry had two goals and two assists while Nick Bonino and Teemu Selanne each added two goals in the rout. The Chicago Blackhawks (30-8-11) comes off a 2-3 OT loss at home to Colorado. The Hawks lost despite firing 48 shots on the Avalanche net. Johnny Oduya and Andrew Shaw scored goals for the Hawks. The Ducks have been playing some seriously good hockey of late but this is going to be a tall order to beat a motivated Blackhawks team on the road. The Hawks are 16-3-7 on home ice and I expect the team to show some pride here against the best team in the NHL (record wise) and earn a nice win at home. The Hawks are also revenge minded after losing to the Ducks 2-3 in December. Note that Chicago is 7-5 in these situations. The price is right here as you may never get the Hawks at this value at home again this season. Take Chicago to bump a slump. AAA |

This is an 8* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Minnesota Wild.
The Edmonton Oilers (15-29-5) comes off a 2-5 loss at Dallas. Justin Schultz and Sam Gagner scored for Edmonton, with Taylor Hall assisting on both goals. The Minnesota Wild (25-19-5) comes off a 0-3 loss at home to Ottawa. It was the first times the Wild have been shut out in a game this season. Both teams are coming off losses but I fully expect the home to team bounce back with a win in this situation. The Wild have won five of its |

This is a 6* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the San Jose Sharks.
The San Jose Sharks (29-12-6) come off a 2-1 SO win at Washington. Antti Niemi stopped Eric Fehr, Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom in the shootout after making 35 saves in regulation and overtime. Tyler Kennedy scored the lone goal in regulation for the Sharks. The Florida Panthers (18-21-7) comes off a 4-2 win at home over the New York Islanders. Scottie Upshall had a goal and an assist while Tim Thomas had 31 saves to record the win. The Panthers come off a nice win over the Islanders but I expect the team to be in over their heads here versus a very talented team from the west in San Jose. The Sharks are 10-6 in non conference games this season and have won five of the last eight meetings with Florida over the years. The Panthers are just 6-13 in games versus teams with a winning record this year and just 7-11 in games versus the Western conference teams. Lay the juice to get the better team here with San Jose. 01-11-14 | Chicago Blackhawks -126 v. Montreal Canadiens | Top | 1-2 | Loss | -126 | 24 h 28 m | Show |
This is a 10* play on the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Chicago Blackhawks (29-8-9) is coming off a 2-3 loss at home to the New York Rangers. A lackluster first period and another subpar offensive effort contributed to the extension of Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford's losing streak. It was Chicago's first regulation loss since it was blown out at Toronto, falling 7-3 on Dec. 14. The Montreal Canadiens (25-15-5) comes off a 1-3 loss at Philadelphia. 01-09-14 | Minnesota Wild v. Phoenix Coyotes -159 | 4-1 | Loss | -159 | 25 h 38 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Minnesota Wild (23-17-5) comes off a 2-1 SO win at the LA Kings. Minor League call-up goalie Darcy Keumper made 39 saves in the win and Nino Niederreiter scored the tying goal early in the third period and netted the only goal in a four-round shootout. The Phoenix Coyotes (21-12-9) come off a 6-0 blowout win over the Calgary Flames at home. After a tight-checking first period, the Coyotes took control in the second period, scoring two of their three goals on fortuitous bounces. I was the first Phoenix shutout this season and Tomas Greiss was the goalie for the Coyotes. Phoenix is a very strong team on home ice this season and I expect it to take care of business again here versus a shorthanded Wild team. The Coyotes are 12-5-3 in Glendale this season while the Wild is just 7-12-2 away from friendly confines. Mikkel Boedker, who has four points in the last two games, has already set career highs with a team best-tying 13 goals and 29 points. Phoenix is 9-3-0 when he scores. The Wild have had serious injuries to star players in Zach Parise and captain Mikko Koivu. The Wild have had some success recently in Glendale but that was with their star players in the lineup. Lay the extra juice to get Phoenix here. AAA |

This is a 10* "ART OF THE GAME" on the New Jersey Devils.
The Dallas Stars (20-15-7) come off a 3-7 loss at the New York Islanders. Dallas built its 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Jamie Benn and Erik Cole, but goaltender Kari Lehtonen couldn't make the margin stick. He allowed seven goals on 43 shots. The New Jersey Devils (17-18-9) comes of a 2-3 SO loss at home to Philadelphia. 01-08-14 | Ottawa Senators v. Colorado Avalanche -142 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 25 h 45 m | Show
This is an 8* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Colorado Avalanche.
The Ottawa Senators (19-18-7) come off a 4-3 OT win on the road over rival Montreal. Clarke McArthur scored the game winning goal in OT. Erik Condra, Colin Greening and Mark Stone also scored for Ottawa, which jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first period. The Colorado Avalanche (26-12-4) come off a 3-4 loss at home to Calgary. Paul Stastny had a goal and two assists while rookie Nathan McKinnon added two goals in a losing effort. The Avs are a pretty good home team at 15-6-2 this season and I expect them to bounce back here against a team coming all the way from Eastern Canada to play. Colorado is 10-3 versus non-conference foes while the Sens are just 3-12. The OT win was a big one over rival Montreal and I expect there to be a bit of a letdown here for Ottawa. Lay the extra juice to get the Avs who have been dominant versus the East this season. AAA |

01-07-14 | NY Islanders v. Toronto Maple Leafs -160 | 5-3 | Loss | -160 | 27 h 54 m | Show
This is a 9* "SLAP SHOT" on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The New York Islanders (15-22-7) come off a 7-3 win at home over the Dallas Stars. John Tavares had five total points and Thomas Vanek chipped in with two assists. The Toronto Maple Leafs (21-17-5) comes off arguably its worst loss of the season, a 1-7 decision to the New York Rangers on its home ice. Joffrey Lupul scored the lone goal for the Leafs. The Leafs had quite a letdown after the Winter Classic but I expect them to bounce back here against an Islanders team that played just last night. Coach Randy Carlyle called the Toronto Maple Leafs' latest performance "unacceptable." Hockey coaches don |

01-05-14 | San Jose Sharks v. Chicago Blackhawks -139 | Top | 3-2 | Loss | -139 | 26 h 2 m | Show |
This is a 10* "WEST-COAST EXPRESS" on the Chicago Blackhawks.
AAA Sports will have their full analysis for this selection posted shortly. |

01-04-14 | Vancouver Canucks v. Los Angeles Kings -140 | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 17 h 46 m | Show
This is an 8* "SITUATIONAL DESTRUCTION" on the LA Kings.
The Vancouver Canucks (23-12-7) come in off a 2-4 loss at home to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Brad Richardson and Zac Dalpe scored the goals for the Canucks. Eddie Lack made 29 saves in a losing effort. The LA Kings (25-13-4) come off a 0-5 loss at St. Louis. Martin Jones and Ben Scrivens combined to make just 19 saves. The Kings have certainly been struggling having lost five in a row but I think they back in the winning column with a rival in the Canucks in town. While the Kings have won playoffs series versus the Canucks of late, note the team has won nine of the last 13 games versus the Canucks and three straight in total. The Kings are much stronger at home with a record of 13-5-2. Roberto Luongo is back in net for the Canucks after a short injury sting. Luongo has lost five straight to the Kings dating back to the 2012 postseason, posting a 3.50 goals-against average and .879 save percentage. Lay the extra juice to get LA. AAA |

01-02-14 | Philadelphia Flyers v. Colorado Avalanche -131 | Top | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 15 h 27 m | Show |
This is a 10* "INTERCONTINENTAL EXPRESS" on the Colorado Avalanche.
The Philadelphia Flyers (20-16-4) come off a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames. Brayden Schenn had a goal and two assists while Wayne Simmonds added two assists in the win. Ray Emery made 23 saves in the win. The Colorado Avalanche (24-11-4) come off a 5-3 win at home over Columbus. Matt Duchene had two assists while Semyon Varlamov was very sharp in making 35 saves. Yes the Flyers are on a nice streak here but I expect a bit of letdown in Colorado against a very good team in the Avalanche. The Avs are 13-5-2 on home ice this season. Colorado is 8-3 versus non conference teams this season. Philly is in the midst of a massive western road trip and you have to think there will be a bit of let down here at some points. Philly is just 5-6 versus teams with winning records. The Avs had a bit of rough patch to end the 2013 calendar year but I expect this team sees the new year as a new beginning to start a streak. Lay the extra juice to get the home team here. AAA |

01-02-14 | Los Angeles Kings v. St. Louis Blues -134 | 0-5 | Win | 100 | 14 h 28 m | Show
This is a 5* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the St. Louis Blues.
The LA Kings (25-12-4) come off a 2-3 loss at the Dallas Stars. Jeff Carter and Anze Kopitar scored for Los Angeles, which has lost four straight. Ben Scrivens made 25 saves in a losing effort. The St. Louis Blues (27-7-5) come off a 2-1 win at the Minnesota Wild. Jaden Schwartz scored a goal and added an assist while Brian Elliot was sharp in making 24 saves against the punch less Wild. The Kings have lost four straight on the road and just have not been scoring well of late. Over the stretch of this road losing streak of four games, the Kings have put up just seven goals. St. Louis is 15-3-4 on home ice this season and are nearly unbeatable there. This game goes as big time revenge as well as the Blues have lost three straight to the Kings and will not be taking them lightly in the game. Take the Blues at a nice price here to get an easy win. 12-30-13 | Philadelphia Flyers v. Vancouver Canucks -142 | 4-3 | Loss | -142 | 31 h 20 m | Show
This is a 7* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Vancouver Canucks.
The Philadelphia Flyers (18-16-4) come in off a 4-3 SO win over Edmonton on Saturday night. Wayne Simmonds had a pair of goals for the third straight game, and Scott Hartnell also scored for the Flyers. The Vancouver Canucks (23-11-6) come off a 2-0 win just last night. Eddie Lack had to make just 18 saves in the win. Mike Santorelli and Jannik Hansen scored the goals for the Canucks. We are getting the Canucks at a decent price here as they are playing the second half of a back to back situation but note the Canucks have only played one game in the last seven games and are plenty rested for a back to back situation. The Canucks earned a very tough victory on the road in Chicago the last time they played in a back to back situation so you know they can handle it. The Canucks have won nine of 11 and are starting to really roll. Vancouver is 14-3 this season versus teams with a losing record. Lay the extra to get Vancouver. AAA |

12-29-13 | Pittsburgh Penguins -120 v. Columbus Blue Jackets | 5-3 | Win | 100 | 5 h 1 m | Show
This is a 6* "SUPER-BLOWOUT" on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Pittsburgh is rolling, winner of 13 of its last 15; suffice it to say, I expect the Pens to keep the momentum rolling today. The Pens just keep finding ways to win, including last night's 4-3 OT victory in Carolina. Keep your eyes on James Neal who had a season-high three points yesterday, including the game-winning goal (note that Pittsburgh is 13-4/+5.6 units vs. division opponents). Columbus has being playing better of late with three-straight wins, but is just 1-1-8 the last ten in this series (note that Columbus is 6-10/-3.5 units vs. teams with winning records). I don't think we need to overanalyze this one; I'm expecting the "better" team to find a way to get the job done at the end of the night. In my opinion, this is the very definition of "great line value". AAA |

12-28-13 | Phoenix Coyotes v. Anaheim Ducks -153 | 2-3 | Win | 100 | 25 h 23 m | Show

12-27-13 | Buffalo Sabres v. Toronto Maple Leafs -164 | 3-4 | Win | 100 | 26 h 48 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Buffalo Sabres (10-24-3) come in off a 2-1 OT win at home over the Phoenix Coyotes. Tyler Ennis scored in regulation and Ryan Miller made 36 saves for the Sabres who got a gift with the game winning goal in OT a weird one where Mike Smith put it into his own net. The Toronto Maple Leafs (18-16-5) looks to bounce back off a 1-2 SO loss at the New York Rangers. The Leafs lost despite getting another great goaltending performance from Jonathan Bernier who made 42 saves in a losing cause. Nazem Kadri scored the lone goal for the Leafs. There is a lot of pressure on the Leafs win games leading up to Winter Classic thanks an HBO camera crew following the players and their every move. This is a team the Leafs can beat and will be very motivated thanks a 2-3 loss at Buffalo the last time they faced the Sabres. Buffalo is just 3-12-1 on the road this season while Toronto is 12-8-1 at home. Toronto has won five of the last six meetings between these two teams when the game is held in Ontario. Lay the extra juice to get the win with the Maple Leafs. AAA |

12-23-13 | NY Islanders v. Detroit Red Wings -148 | 3-0 | Loss | -148 | 25 h 52 m | Show
This is a 6* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Detroit Red Wings.
The New York Islanders (10-20-7) come into this game looking to bounce back off a 3-5 loss at home to Anaheim. The Islanders held a 3-1 lead in this game after the first period but still found a way to lose the game. Thomas Vanek had two goals in a losing effort. The Detroit Red Wings come off a 5-4 SO win at Toronto on Saturday night. Pavel Datsyuk scored a goal in regulation time and the shootout winner as he was named first star of the game. The Red Wings have not been playing their best hockey but found a way to gut out a win in Toronto. I expect another win here as the team builds off some momentum and take a down one of the worst teams in the Eastern conference. The Islanders are just 5-13 on the road this season. The Red Wings won the last meeting between these teams 5-0 in New York just last month. The Islanders are just 4-14 when revenging a loss to an opponent. Detroit is under the microscope of HBO TV series 24/7 and should be extra motivated to make it three wins in a row here. Lay some extra juice to get the home team here. AAA |
|||||||
12-19-13 | Boston Bruins -174 v. Buffalo Sabres | 2-4 | Loss | -174 | 27 h 16 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Boston Bruins.
The Boston Bruins (23-9-2) come in off a 2-0 SO win over the Calgary Flames at home. Zedeno Chara had two goals and Jarome Iginla added assists on both goals. Tuukka Rask made 21 saves for the shutout, bouncing back nicely from the big loss to the Vancouver Canucks. The Buffalo Sabres (8-23-3) come off a 4-2 win at home to Winnipeg. Matt Moulson, Steve Ott, Marcus Foligno and Matt Ellis scored for the Sabres who came back after being behind at the start of the third period. The Bruins are the better team here obviously and this is always big game as there is s sense of rivalry here after the Ryan Miller/Milan Lucic incident a few years back. The Bruins won the last meeting here as Boston improved to 2-0-1 in its last three games against the Sabres and earned its second straight win in Buffalo. The last time the Sabres recorded back-to-back victories was mid November and I don |

12-17-13 | Calgary Flames v. Boston Bruins -213 | 0-2 | Win | 100 | 25 h 56 m | Show
This is a 4* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Boston Bruins.
The Calgary Flames (13-15-5) come off a 3-4 SO loss at the New York Rangers. Mikeal Backlund and Glencross, Jiri Hudler had two assists, and Karri Ramo made 29 saves through overtime. The Boston Bruins (22-9-2) come off a 2-6 loss at the Vancouver Canucks. Reilly Smith had both goals for the Bruins, who lost their four-game winning streak. A shaky Tuukka Rask allowed four goals on 23 shots for Boston, which has been hit hard by injuries and had a flu bug go through its locker room this week. The Flames lost to the Boston Bruins a few nights ago and I expect it happen here in Boston. After a loss of two or more goals the Bruins are 3-1 this season. The Flames are 4-13 versus teams with a winning record while the Bruins are 9-5 versus teams with losing record. Boston is 13-3-2 on home ice this season. Lay the extra juice win in what should be easy win for Boston. AAA |

12-16-13 | Toronto Maple Leafs v. Pittsburgh Penguins -182 | 1-3 | Win | 100 | 25 h 25 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Toronto Maple Leafs (17-14-3) gone on the board in a big way to beat Chicago 7-3 on Saturday night. Peter Holland and Jeoffrey Lupul each had three points while Mason Raymond had four assists in the big win. The Pittsburgh Penguins (23-10-1) come in hot as well off a 4-1 win at Detroit. Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists while Jeff Zatkoff was solid in making 28 saves in the win. Yes the Leafs got a big win at home over the Hawks on Saturday but will be will be in tough to get two in a row here when they head into Pittsburgh that has won three in a row and eight of nine overall. Pittsburgh has won three of the last four meetings between these two teams when hosting and have very good 14-3 record at home. The Leafs are just 6-7 away from friendly confines and has fallen in four of their last six road games. Lay the juice on Pittsburgh. AAA |

12-12-13 | Buffalo Sabres v. Ottawa Senators -190 | 1-2 | Win | 100 | 28 h 21 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the Ottawa Senators.
The Buffalo Sabres (7-22-2) come into the second half of a back to back the victors of a 2-1 SO on Tuesday. Zemgus Girgensons scored and Ryan Miller made 35 saves in the win. The Ottawa Senators (12-14-6) got its |

12-10-13 | St. Louis Blues -144 v. Winnipeg Jets | 2-1 | Win | 100 | 26 h 58 m | Show
This is an 8* "WEST-COAST EXPRESS" on the St. Louis Blues.
The St. Louis Blues (19-6-1) come off a 2-5 loss at home at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks. Jaden Schwartz and Patrik Berglund scored the goals while Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliot combined to stop just 13 of 18 shots. The Winnipeg Jets (14-13-4) come off a 2-1 OT win at Tampa Bay. Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele scored the goals while Al Montoya made 28 saves to earn the win. The Blues are admittedly struggling by their standards this season, losing three of the last four. I am betting we see a nice comeback here against an inferior opponent on the road. St. Louis is 9-1 against Division opponents this season and 7-1 against teams with a losing record. Also note that the Blues are 3-1 after losing the previous game by two goals or more. The Jets are just 3-11 when facing divisional opponents. The Blues are 4-0-1 in the last five matchups with the Jets and won 3-2 in the most recent one Oct. 29. Consider laying the extra juice to get St. Louis here. AAA |
|||||||
12-07-13 | New Jersey Devils v. NY Rangers -168 | 4-3 | Loss | -168 | 28 h 2 m | Show
This is a 5* "BIG-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the New York Rangers.
The New Jersey Devils (11-13-6) come off a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. Andy Greene scored the lone goal for Devils while Cory Schnieder made 18 saves. New Jersey managed just 11 shots on goal in this game. The New York Rangers (15-14-1) come off a 3-1 win at the Buffalo Sabres. Brad Richards had a goal and an assist while Rick Nash added a goal. Henrik Lundqvist made 27 saves in the win. The Rangers have been flip flopping wins and losses of late but this looks like a great opportunity to break that trend with a struggling Devils team that played the night before. The Rangers are 9-4 versus teams with a losing record this season. The Devils won the last meeting at MSG so the Rangers also have revenge on the mind here. Lay the extra juice to get the Rangers at home in this matchup. AAA |
|||||||
12-05-13 | NY Rangers -157 v. Buffalo Sabres | 3-1 | Win | 100 | 28 h 22 m | Show
This is a 5* "MID-CHALK CHOKE-OUT" on the New York Rangers.
The New York Rangers (14-14) come off a 2-5 loss at home to the Winnipeg Jets. Mats Zuccarlo and Ryan Callahan scored goals in a losing effort. Alain Vignault made a curious move in starting their hot back up in Cam Talbot instead of star starter Henrik Lundqvist. Talbot made 25 saves in the loss. The Buffalo Sabres (6-20-2) come off a 0-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Jonas Enroth was the hard luck loser with 23 saves on 24 shots in the game. New York has won six of the past eight matchups with Buffalo and I expect it to continue this win one-lose one trend it has going lately. The Sabres have lost five of six and is having an awful season. Keep an eye out for Rick Nash, who had a three-game goal streak snapped Monday, has scored four in his last four matchups with Buffalo.
