04-11-15 | Toronto Raptors +3 v. Miami Heat | Top | 107-104 | Win | 100 | 12 h 11 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's Toronto/Miami Saturday Night Street Fight winner is Toronto The Raptors won a huge game last night in their come from behind win at Orlando. Toronto is now tied for third in the East with the Bulls and control their destiny as to whether playing Washington or Milwaukee in the first round of the playoffs Big game here against a Miami team that has just been finding ways to lose and doesn't seem to be real interested. The Heat are 1-5 in their L6 and led by 21 at the half in their last only to get beat by double-digits .... at home! Take Toronto. |
04-11-15 | Pittsburgh Pirates -104 v. Milwaukee Brewers | 0-6 | Loss | -104 | 12 h 42 m | Show
Jeff Allen's MLB Play of the Day is on the Pittsburgh Pirates The Brewers are a mess losing their first four games, all at home, while allowing 26 big runs. The Pirate bats came alive last night after being shut down in Cincinnati. Pittsburgh has a big edge toeing the rubber with Vance Worley who really found himself at the end of last year including eight shutout innings of four hit ball against the Brewers. Pittsburgh is very live here. |
04-11-15 | St. Louis Cardinals v. Cincinnati Reds -124 | 4-1 | Loss | -124 | 6 h 39 m | Show
Jeff Allen's Matinee Moneymaker is on the Cincinnati Reds Johnny Cueto was dominant in his first start throwing seven shutout innings at the Pirates. He's also dominated St Louis at Great American Ball Park allowing just one earned run in 15 innings over two starts last year. Add to the mix that the home team has won 10 of the L12 in the series and the Reds get an easy call. |
04-10-15 | Minnesota Timberwolves v. Los Angeles Lakers -5 | Top | 98-106 | Win | 100 | 13 h 2 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Game of the Year Winner is on the Los Angeles Lakers Granted, both teams are train wrecks, neither team is playing well, both teams have secured their lottery picks and both have been playing out the string for a long time. That said, this is an opportunity, possibly their last, for the Lakers to come up with a big effort for the Staples Center home crowd for what could possibly be the final time this year. The 16-62 Timberwolves have won seven road games this year and while one of them came here at Showtime in November, Minnesota has won once with suitcase since February 8th in Detroit. The Wolves are dinged and playing a mash uniit of what they have left and are 0-5 SU (1-4 ATS) while being outscored by an average of 109-93 while allowing their opponents to shoot 49.6% from the field and being outrebounded 56-41. Numbers wise, the Lakers are not much better but the team has shown that it is capable of an effort, most recently as Monday vs. the Clippers and today they are playing a team they have beaten the last two meetings including a 101-99 decision at The Target Center in March 25th. The Lakers have some guys that are somewhat talented and making the most of their time in an effort to secure end of the pine spots somewhere next year. We're talking about the Jordan Clarksons, Jabari Browns and Ryan Kellys of the world. Wesley Johnson is as good as anything the Wolves have at his spot. Andrew Wiggins and Kevin Martin are Minnesota's only scoring options and if they can just be contained, the Wolves don't get of of the 80s setting things up for an easy double-digit Laker win. Los Angeles 108-89. |
04-10-15 | Washington Nationals v. Philadelphia Phillies UNDER 7 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 115 | 9 h 43 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's MLB Play of the Day is the Nats/Phillies Under These teams are off to slow starts at the plates hitting .177 and .149 respectively. Geo Gonzalez has always been tough when he has his control and doesn't walk people as his 2.00 ERA over his final five starts last year would suggest. Runs figure to be at a big premium here and getting an extra 15 cents only further seals the deal. |
04-09-15 | Chicago Bulls +1.5 v. Miami Heat | Top | 89-78 | Win | 100 | 13 h 45 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's Bulls/Heat TNT Bluechip is on the Chicago Bulls Both teams need this game in the worst way. The Heat are fourth in a four team dogfight (all four separated by a half game for the final two playoff spots in the East. The Bulls are in a three team race for two first round home courts in the East and currently lead the Wiz by a full game. Both teams are struggling at the moment with Chicago losing three of four and Miami losers of four of five. The Bulls took a bad loss last night at Orlando, blowing a big lead and then getting outscored 26-16 in the final quarter. Derrick Rose returned to action scoriing 9 points in 19 minutes but was just 3-9 from the field. He'll be questionable here in the second of B2Bs. The Heat have covered four straight as a home favorite but have also surrendered big leads in two of their last three games and look to be dinged and out of gas. Decent spot for the Bulls who are in a 9-4 ATS spot avenging home losses, in this case a 96-84 home loss to Miami on Jan 25th. The Bulls are a better team and flat out just find a way. |
04-09-15 | Texas Rangers v. Oakland A's UNDER 7.5 | Top | 10-1 | Loss | -112 | 7 h 13 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's MLB Matinee Payday winner is on the Rangers/A's Under The Rangers Nick Martinez closed 2014 strong last year giving up just four earned runs in his last 19 2/3 innings of work. He had a 2.80 ERA over his L6 starts and seven of his L10 starts went under the total. Kendall Graveman is a good young prospect out of the Toronto organization. He makes his first MLB start and jumps directly from the minors where he was 14-6 with a nasty 1.83 ERA in 27 starts last year. He's highly thought of and runs figure to be tough to come by. Play the UNDER. |
04-08-15 | San Diego Padres v. Los Angeles Dodgers UNDER 7 | 4-7 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 60 m | Show
Jeff Allen's MLB Play of the Day is on the Padres/Dodgers Under Runs have been at a premium the first 2-3 days in the MLB and this game will be no exception. The Friars Andrew Cashner is one of San Diego's good young guns and he's always pitched well against the Bums. In fact, he has a 1.32 ERA in six career starts against L.A given up just four earned runs in 20 innings pitched last year. Brandon McCarthy has solid career numbers against San Diego that came while he was with the DBacks. This looks like a first one to three wins, play the Under. |
04-08-15 | Houston Rockets v. San Antonio Spurs UNDER 208.5 | Top | 98-110 | Win | 100 | 10 h 27 m | Show |
JEFF ALLEN'S WESTERN CONFERENCE TOTAL OF THE YEAR IS ON THE ROCKETS/SPURS UNDER Don't look now but the currently No.6 Spurs are just 1.5 games back of No.2 Houston in the logjammed NBA Western Conference. Sure there are a bunch of teams in the mix that could go up and down, that will be sorted out in the next ten days. Even though the last six games if the series have all been decided by six points or more, not interested in the side here. The total by our numbers is tic under six full points more than what it should be and that is where the value lies. Prior to the last meeting, a 110-106 win by the Spurs on this floor back on December 28th, the previous four meeting went comfortably under the total. The last meeting featured 23 treys and would have been substantially higher had the Rockets not missed 16 foul shots. Spurs allowing just 89 ppg per over their L5 and several key techs for both team clearly say LOW. The Western Conference Total of the Year is on the Rockets/Spurs Under. |
04-07-15 | Golden State Warriors -3.5 v. New Orleans Pelicans | Top | 100-103 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 49 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Golden State Warriors The Pelicans refuse to throw in the towel. They've won four of five and are just a game in the win column behind OKC for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. That said, tough spot for the home team here. Golden State has won 11 of 12 and are off a blowout loss at San Antonio in their last, they've lost B2B games just three times all year. The Warriors have won 10 straight in the series and this would a first round playoff matchup if the Pelicans were to sneak in. Golden State wouldn't want to send a bad message with a lay down performance here. Kerr put the hammer down. |
04-07-15 | Baltimore Orioles -107 v. Tampa Bay Rays | Top | 6-5 | Win | 100 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's MLB Play of the Day is on the Baltimore Orioles Recent history can go out the window here as Joel Maddon is gone and the Rays have been stripped down to pretty much a 90 loss team. Chen has had limited lifetime success against Tampa Bay but handled them fairly easily in two late year starts last year although they didn't translate into wins. He faces weaker here and will have much the best on the support end against Nate Karns who has made two starts since June 2013. Baltimore rolls and the price is definitely right. |
04-06-15 | Wisconsin v. Duke UNDER 140 | Top | 63-68 | Win | 100 | 13 h 3 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's Wisconsin/Duke Championship Game Super Play is on the UNDER Both teams have arrived at this point by playing big defense. The Badgers have ratcheted up their defense and are stopping people when it counts as they did in the final five minutes vs. Kentucky. In the first meeting, Duke shot 65% (30-46) from the field including 7-12 from downtown. That won't happen here as these are both two different teams four months later. The Dukies are allowing 55 ppg in their five tournament wins and the UNDER 8-1 in all Duke tournament games this year. Play the Under. |
04-06-15 | Atlanta Braves v. Miami Marlins -123 | 2-1 | Loss | -123 | 8 h 3 m | Show
Jeff Allen's MLB Opening Day Super Play is on the Miami Marlins We loved this game as soon as the opening day matchups were announced and even since then our play was strengthened by the Braves jettisoning over $55 million in payroll and the top closer in baseball (statistically the L4 years) last night in surprise deal with the Padres. The Marlins are young but have a solid lineup that will score runs. Giancarlo Stanton appears to have completely recovered from last year's beaning and he'll have some bats to protect him in the lineup. Henderson Alvarez is one of the Marlin's top young arms and the Fish have a top men and closer of their own. The Braves aren't going to score much so it won't take much to win here. Take Miami. |
04-05-15 | Golden State Warriors +5.5 v. San Antonio Spurs | Top | 92-107 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 31 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's Warriors vs. Spurs Best of the West Play is on Golden State Golden State has won 11 straight covering nine, the Warriors are 6-2 as a road dog. The Spurs have won and covered nine of their L10 so something has to give. We really like what Steve Kerr is doing in playing things out, playing everyone and just monitoring the minutes. The Warriors expended little energy in routing the Mavs 123-100 last night. Back-to-backs are not necessarily a bad thing for Golden State are they are 8-5 ATS on the road is they played the night before. The teams have split two games with the visitor winning both. At the end of the day, just can't look past the substantial points with a team that is averaging 111 per over its L5 and crushing everyone in its path. |
04-04-15 | Wisconsin v. Kentucky -5 | 71-64 | Loss | -110 | 60 h 26 m | Show
Jeff Allen's Final Four Game of the Year is on the Kentucky Wildcats These teams met in this game last year with Kentucky winning by a point as an eight-seed. This game will come down to who can impose their will on who. Wisconsin is off a near perfect second half in their regional final in which it shot 10-12 from beyond the arc, 30-39 in all shots in the final 20 minutes and still won by just seven points. Kentucky allowed just 53 ppg. in its first four tourney wins holding opponents to just 26% from downtown. The Badgers averaged 80.5 ppg. in its four tourney wins, knocking down 37 treys. In their three losses this year, Wisconsin averaged 61.7 ppg. Kentucky sometimes struggles on offenses but they ALWAYS bring it on the defensive end. The Wildacts go to 39-0 and one game from the prize with a ten point win here. |
04-04-15 | Boston Celtics +3 v. Toronto Raptors | Top | 117-116 | Win | 100 | 12 h 56 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Boston Celtics Both teams lost last night but while the Raptors are for the most part locked into the four sport and a home court in the East, the Celtics took a crushing home loss to Milwaukee and now find themselves on the outside of the playoffs looking in at both Brooklyn and Miami. That said, Boston now finds themselves in their best spot ... back against the wall and in the second of back-to-backs where they are 9-1 ATS in their L10. Boston has also won its last three road games straight up and is an outstanding 17-4 L21 as a road dog. Urgency, spot and points adds up to the Celtics as a slam dunk play of the day. |
04-04-15 | Michigan State v. Duke -5 | 61-81 | Win | 100 | 58 h 52 m | Show
Allen's Final four Super Play is on the Duke Blue Devils Duke beat Michigan State 81-71 in November in the ACC/Big Ten challenge improving Coach K's LT straight up edge over Izzo to 9-1. A lot has changed since November as Sparty has peaked at the right time winning nine of their last ten with the only loss an OT loss to Wisconsin in game they really should have won. The Spartans last two wins have been comebacks from double-digit deficits and their time has just run out. Duke is allowing just 53 and change a game in this tournament and Michigan State just does not have the offensive players to keep up or come from behind, especially if the game is called tightly with lots of fouls. Over the L10 years, favorites in this round are 17-11-1 and Duke looks much the best in this matchup. Lay the points . |
04-03-15 | New Orleans Pelicans v. Sacramento Kings UNDER 205.5 | Top | 101-95 | Win | 100 | 15 h 53 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Pelicans/Kings Under These same two teams met a week ago in New Orleans with an identical 205.5 total and the teams scored a combined 190 points. The Pelicans trail OKC by a game-and-a-half for the eight hole in the NBA West and with eight to play and a game in hand, every game in must win at this point for New Orleans, especially a game like this. The Pelicans will do what they do which is play defense. They've held their last four opponents to 90 ppg. including the Kings (88) on the 27th. The Kings will be without second leading scorer Rudy Gay (concussion) and if Anthony Davis can put the squeeze on Boogie Cousins, Sacramento doesn't have a whole bunch of other scoring options. The Pelicans are playing to get out of Dodge with a win, the Kings are playing out the string and waiting to hit the golf course in two weeks. The result might be a little closer with the reverse in home but looking for a similar 102-88 final from the 27th. Play the Under. |
04-02-15 | Stanford v. Miami (FL) +1.5 | 66-64 | Loss | -102 | 13 h 60 m | Show
Allen's NIT Championship Game Super Play is on the Miami Hurricanes Stanford is big, physical and very experienced but ... has a bad habit of vanishing for long periods in games as evidenced by their 4-8 pre-NIT finish and blowing a 24-5 opening lead in their semi vs. Old Dominion, a game they trailed late in the second half. Miami was a killer early in their non-conference schedule and much like N.C. State, was capable of coming up with perfect games where they could beat anybody on any given night. The Cane season basically went down the tubes with the injury to PG Angel Rodriguez who is doubtful here and has missed the last three games. Where Stanford has tried to find ways to give games away, Miiami has found ways to win close games, all four NIT wins coming by 7 points or less. A NIT win would be a nice final cap on veteran HC Jim Larranaga's resume and he finds a way to get it done here. |
04-02-15 | Stanford v. Miami (FL) OVER 134.5 | 66-64 | Loss | -110 | 13 h 46 m | Show
Allen's NIT Championship Game Super Total is on the Over |
04-02-15 | Houston Rockets +2 v. Dallas Mavericks | Top | 108-101 | Win | 100 | 16 h 50 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the day is on the Houston Rockets The Rockets are tied with the Grizzlies for the all important two seed in the NBA West which would guarantee avoiding a playoff meeting with Golden State until the conference finals. The Mavs are virtually locked into the seven spot in the West and a first round matchup with Houston or Memphis. That said, tonight you have two teams on the opposite chart with Houston having won eight of ten and 3-1 in L4 as a road dog while the Mavs, after a shootout win over OKC last night are 2-4 in their L6 including 1-3 L4 as a home favorite. Houston is survived the Kings last night and are 6-4 iATS n the road in second of B2Bs while the Mavs are 3-5 ATS if they won the night before. Form, spot and points says take Houston. |
04-01-15 | Detroit Pistons +4.5 v. Charlotte Hornets | Top | 78-102 | Loss | -101 | 9 h 16 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's Wednesday Night Junkyard Dog is on the Detroit Pistons With nine game to play, Charlotte has pretty much played themselves out of the playoffs. The Hornets are two games back of the eight hole with three teams to leapfrog and in absolutely awful form. Charlotte's lost four of five and are just 2-5 in their L7 as a home favorite. Tonight they face a Pistons crew that has won five of six for SVG and looks to not have quit. B2Bs have not been the best spot for Detroit but Motown is 12-6 in their L18 as a road dog and the +4.5 points are no inconsiderable in a game like this. Take the points. |
03-31-15 | Indiana Pacers v. Brooklyn Nets OVER 199 | Top | 106-111 | Win | 100 | 12 h 13 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Total of the Week is on the Pacers/Nets Over The Pacers and Nets are both a half game out of the playoffs in the logjam for the 7-8 spots in the NBA East. Prefer to look at current form here as the Pacers are on a run of five straight overs, 7-1 high L8 and 9-2 high L11. The Nets have seen three of their last four go under but .... that after a run of 6-1 to the over. Pacer games have averaged a whopping 214 ppg. over their L5 while Net games are averaging 204 ppg. These two met ten days ago with the Nets winning 123-111 at Indy with the teams combining to shoot 91-165 (56%) from the field. Looking for the Pacers to establish the tempo here with the Nets more than willing to go along. Play the Over. |
03-31-15 | Miami (Fla) v. Temple -1 | 60-57 | Loss | -118 | 34 h 52 m | Show
Allen's NIT Super Semi is on the Temple Owls Both teams are on rolls losing only in their conference tournaments. Miami has won six of seven losing only to Notre Dame while Temple has won seven of eight losing to SMU. Miami has been doing just enough to win, getting to New York winning three games by a combined 13 points. The Temple Owls are a story of two half seasons, finally having their full compliment of players after Christmas and playing their best now. Temple is averaging 80 ppg in winning their three games by 6-13-17 NIT games and should have a good crowd at MSG being just a two hour ride up the turnpike. Temple by moves on. |
03-30-15 | Louisiana-Monroe +5.5 v. Loyola-Chicago | 58-65 | Loss | -105 | 11 h 52 m | Show
Allen says take UL Monroe The CBI final is a best of three with the final two games at Monroe on the 1st and 3rd if necessary. The Ramblers have had a nice year for a program that has been down and out for quite a while. Their best player Doyle (15.0 ppg) returned from injury at just the right time. Monroe lost to Georgia Southern by a point in their tournament and then won their three CBI games all as a dog. The Warhawks don't score a lot but play excellent defense and a game in the 50s would suit them fine. Loyola is similar stylistically and a game in the 50s is probably exactly what we'll get. At the end of the day, there just isn't much difference between these two so we'll grab the points. |
03-30-15 | Boston Celtics +4 v. Charlotte Hornets | Top | 116-104 | Win | 100 | 11 h 53 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Game of the Month is on the Boston Celtics Boston and Charlotte are two of five teams duking it out for the final two playoff spots in the NBA East. As of today, both teams are on the outside looking in with the Celtics a game up in the win column over the Hornets with Charlotte having a game in hand. Neither team is playing exceptionally well with Boston losing five of seven and the Hornets losers of six of their last eight but strangely enough, this is a spot where Boston seems to thrive. Boston is 5-1 as an away dog and more importantly 11-3 ATS in the second (lost to Clipper yesterday) of back-to-backs. Don't put much in the Charlotte win over Atlanta as the Hawks have clinched the East and rested most of their regulars. The Hornets have not played well in a month and are just 4-8 in their last 12 as a home favorite. Brad Stevens is doing a great job with this team that plays hard and hasn't quit. Boston finds a way to get it done and win straight up. |
03-29-15 | Los Angeles Clippers -5.5 v. Boston Celtics | 119-106 | Win | 100 | 12 h 45 m | Show
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Clippers The Clippers have won six straight games and covered their last three as a road favorite. There are five games separating the Memphis Grizzlies in second and the Dallas Mavericks in seventh in the West so with eight games left, every win is a premium in getting an all important first round playoff home court. The Celtics are a half game to the good for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East but are just 2-5 in their L7 and 1-4 in their L5 in the series with the Clips. The Clippers last three series wins including the 103-92 win Jan 19th are all by 6+ which is more than what they need here. We'll take the Clippers at the small price. |
03-29-15 | Gonzaga +2.5 v. Duke | 52-66 | Loss | -110 | 29 h 34 m | Show
Allen says take Gonzaga Program history aside, if you took the names of the uniforms, you would probably like Gonzaga. Duke has won 14 of 15 and the Blue Devils are 15-0 outside the ACC but do not match up well here. The Zags have a very underrated star of their own in Kyle Wiltjer to go along with a proven floor general in Kevin Pangos. They also have the size, physicality and fouls to play Okafur who will get his but figure to be played to ab draw by Karnowski and Sabonis. Since 2009 in the regional finals involving 2vs.1s, the No.2 seed is 11-4 SU and 9-5-1 ATS. With all their recent success the past 10-15 years, the Zags have NEVER reached the Final four. This year they break through. |
03-29-15 | Michigan State -2 v. Louisville | 76-70 | Win | 100 | 26 h 50 m | Show
Allen says take Michigan State Rick Petino and his veteran seniors have worked their magic to this point but they've had some advantageous matchups to this point and their time has run out. The Cards meet an equally veteran Michigan State teams that almost always seems to flick the switch at this time of the year. Sparty has won seven of eight overall and Izzo is an amazing 20-4 in these 48 hour short turnaround games. Michigan State is 1-2 this year against the best the ACC had to offer, beating Virginia and losing to Notre Dame by one and by ten to Duke early on. This is actually a drop in class and Michigan State wins with anything near its best. |
03-28-15 | Notre Dame +11 v. Kentucky | 66-68 | Win | 100 | 32 h 24 m | Show
Allen says take Notre Dame An interesting contrast in styles here. Kentucky leads the nation in defensive FG% against while the Irish lead the nation in FG% making 39.8% of its treys and cashing 58.5% of their shots inside the arc. After that hard to compare two teams that are playing great. The Irish have won eight straight games, answering every call. Their non-conference schedule was the 6th easiest in the country but they were 14-4 and won the tournament in the toughest conference in the country. Kentucky has won their L7 by 13+, rolled through a truly awful SEC, but were dominant in their tough non-conference schedule which included wins over North Carolina (14) and Louisville (8). Since 2009, No.1 seeds are 5-8 ATS in this round. This us a lot of points for a solid team that can really shoot the ball. |
03-28-15 | Notre Dame v. Kentucky OVER 136 | 66-68 | Loss | -108 | 32 h 23 m | Show
Allen says take Kentucky/Notre Dame Over |
03-28-15 | Golden State Warriors -4.5 v. Milwaukee Bucks | Top | 108-95 | Win | 100 | 14 h 47 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Golden State Warriors The Bucks have lost six of seven with the lone win coming on a buzzer beating three in a game where they trailed by double-digits in the fourth quarter. The Warriors just continue to roll. They've won seven straight games (6-1 ATS) and absolutely throttled second place Memphis last night to stretch their lead in the NBA West to a whopping 9.5 games. Back-to-backs are always tricky but Golden State is 7-5 in the second of road B2Bs and Kerr need not worry about resting anyone as the Warriors do not play again for three days on the 31st. Golden State has won the last three in the series including a 103-92 win in Oakland back in early March. Form and the reasonable number make the Warriors an easy call. |
03-28-15 | Arizona -1 v. Wisconsin | 78-85 | Loss | -110 | 30 h 46 m | Show
Allen says take the Arizona Wildcats Wisconsin beat Arizona in this exact round and same scenario last year winning 64-63 in overtime. Both teams are better than last year's editions, especially Arizona which has won 14 straight destroying everyone in its path. The Wildcats beat Michigan by 27 in its only game against the Big 10, Wisky dispatched Pac12 Oregon last Sunday in a game they had in hand most of the way. Miller is 0-3 in regional finals and really needs to win this one if he's to be considered an elite coach of an elite program. Since 2003, when 1-2 seeds meet in regional finals, the two-seed is 10-4 straight up. Arizona turns the tables on the Badgers here getting some measure of revenge with a convincing win. |
03-28-15 | Arizona v. Wisconsin OVER 133.5 | 78-85 | Win | 100 | 30 h 45 m | Show
Allen says take Arizona/Wisconsin Over |
03-27-15 | Michigan State -2 v. Oklahoma | 62-58 | Win | 100 | 73 h 26 m | Show
Allen's says take Michigan State Two Great coaches with just only Good teams. Izzo always finds a way in March and everyone knows it as we have a higher seed favored in the Sweet Sixteen. Kruger has taken and won a game with a record five teams in this tournament. We know Oklahoma puts out an excellent starting five but the team has no depth and figures to be ground down by the relentless Spartans. look for this one to be close at the half and through half of the final 20 minutes before extending late. |
03-27-15 | NC State v. Louisville -3 | 65-75 | Win | 100 | 71 h 47 m | Show
Allen's says take Louisville The Wolfpack have the talent on any given day to beat anyone and they have including the likes of Duke, North Carolina and Villanova in its last. That said, this is the same N.C. State team that snapped B.C. out of a double-digit losing streak and hasn't made it a habit of stringing wins together. Down 16 in the second half to LSU, the Wolfpack should be home on the couch. Louisville proved its metal in dominating beat down of Northern Iowa, a game the Panthers were never in. The Cards have gone through some turmoil but they come to play and are supremely coached by Rick Petino. It shows again tonight with Louisville winning by 8-10. |

03-27-15 | Charlotte Hornets v. Washington Wizards -3.5 | Top | 107-110 | Loss | -108 | 10 h 42 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Washington Wizards These are two teams in dire need of a win. The Charlotte Hornets easily qualified for the playoffs last year but are on the outside looking in at the moment for the there for the taking NBA East. After a terrible first half, the Hornets played themselves back in it before this current 3-7 run. The Wiz have lost four straight (Clippers, Golden State, Indiana) and are now two back of Toronto for a first round home court in the playoffs. The Wiz have struggled against division opponents including this Charlotte Hornets (3-8 SU and ATS L11) team. The Wiz have won and covered seven straight at home against everyone not wearing a Cleveland or Golden State jersey and can get a couple of monkeys off their back here with a win at a small price. They get it. |
03-26-15 | North Carolina v. Wisconsin -6 | 72-79 | Win | 100 | 47 h 2 m | Show
The back half of Allen's Lock Parlay is on the Wisconsin Badgers North Carolina has been playing its heart out but their lack of depth and the injury to big man Kennedy Meeks will be to much to overcome against a focused Badger team that is on a mission. The Heels have actually won their L11 games in this round but again, Roy Williams will be basically down to a seven man rotation that big, deep and physical outfit that can punish you inside and out. What separates this Bo Ryan outfit from his previous editions is their ability to score and now, in their L10 games, you're starting to see the Ryan defense we've come to expect. Wisky lost to Duke by ten during non-conference play so they've already had a taste of the ACC and will bring the hammer down when the have the opportunity. Lay it. |
03-26-15 | Wichita State -1.5 v. Notre Dame | 70-81 | Loss | -115 | 46 h 30 m | Show
The front half of Allen's Lock Parlay is on the Wichita State Shockers Notre Dame is in this round for the first time since 2003. The Irish have plenty of momentum after a big ACC tournament and two hard fought wins in the first two rounds. They'll also be playing for their coach who lost his mother on Saturday and has been away for part of the prep time. Wichita State has to be equally motivated. Many will say that the team is a spent bullet after taking down state rival Kansas for just the third time in program history but we prefer to think that it was just another check off Shocker unfinished business. Remember that this was a Final Four team two years ago and was unbeaten before having the misfortune of catching Kentucky early last year. The Shockers have plenty of experience and two great guards in Baker and Van Vleet which is exactly what you need at this point of the tournament. In what figures to be a great game, Wichita State wins by 6-8 points. |
03-25-15 | Chicago Bulls -1 v. Toronto Raptors | 116-103 | Win | 100 | 11 h 57 m | Show
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Chicago Bulls This is a huge game for both teams in the ever in flux NBA East. The Bulls currently lead the Raptors by one game in the win column for the three seed in the East. Chicago has won all three meetings this year including a 108-92 (-1) rout just five nights ago at the United Center in a game where the Bulls held the Raptors to just 30-79 (38%) from the floor while shooting 42-79 (53%) themselves. The Raptors are home but in the second of B2Bs after losing in Detroit last night. Toronto's best player, Kyle Lowry is doubtful with a bad knee and the Barney's are on a 5-10 straight up free fall as it is. The Bulls have won three of four but have lost five of their last six road games with the lone win coming against hapless Philadelphia. When the smoke clears, the Bulls matchup advantage over Toronto will be too much and the Bulls veterans like Noah and Gasol will find a way to win. |
03-25-15 | Murray State +1 v. Old Dominion | Top | 69-72 | Loss | -110 | 8 h 13 m | Show |
JEFF ALLEN'S NIT BLUECHIP is on the MURRAY STATE RACER Murray State is hitting on all cylinders right now and have shot lights out in the tournament including 14-25 from downtown in rout of Tulsa. Old Dom is playing well in winning eight of nine with their only loss coming vs. Middle Tennessee State, a team that Murray beat by 19 during the year. The Racers have won 11 true road games this year so being on the road is no problem. Murray has the physical people up front to match up with the Monarchs and any kind of shooting night makes them double-digit winners. |
03-24-15 | Miami Heat v. Milwaukee Bucks +1.5 | 88-89 | Win | 100 | 9 h 12 m | Show
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Milwaukee Bucks The Bucks have lost six straight but with good reason as seemingly half the team is out with some type of injury. Milwaukee could be getting back both O.J. Mayo and Jarred Dudley wihich makes a huge difference for Jason Kidd. Milwaukee won all three prior meetings this year, all by 7+ points and apparently have the Heat's number. Key game here for the No.6 and No.7 teams in the East. Buck win here puts Milwaukee 2.5 games clear of the Heat and pretty much locks up some spot in the playoffs in a very mediocre Eastern Conference. |
03-23-15 | Murray State +4.5 v. Tulsa | Top | 83-62 | Win | 100 | 11 h 59 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's Monday Night NIT Diamond Dog is on the Murray State Racers Tulsa is a nice team that is what it is, the fourth place team in the AAC. If you look at the Golden Hurricanes last ten games, it is littered with losses to the likes of UConn, SMU and Cincinnati. The Canes were 3-6 ATS against their non-conf schedule so this is not a player from a power conference that will just flatten Murray State. The Racers got a monkey off their back with their opening round win over a tough UTEP outfit. Murray is deep, physical and relentless on the boards. A similar effort to their win in the opener also gets the money here. STRAIGHT UP! |
03-23-15 | Louisiana Tech v. Texas A&M -4.5 | 84-72 | Loss | -101 | 9 h 60 m | Show
Allen's Monday Tournament Super Play is on the Texas A&M Aggies La Tech comfortably won 89-79 (-6.5)Â its opening round home game against Central Michigan but the Bulldogs will find it tougher going tonight against a long athletic Aggie defense that really gets after it. A&M lost four of five down the stretch after all hope of a Big Dance bid was gone. Billy Kennedy has somehow gotten his team to circle the wagons and is off a 17-point mauling of Montana is its opener. Lets remember that the Aggies had Kentucky beat before falling in OT. This is a team that if motivated can get to New York and win it all. Lay it. |
03-22-15 | Dayton v. Oklahoma -4 | 66-72 | Win | 100 | 23 h 12 m | Show
Allen's Round of 32 Game of the Year is on the Oklahoma Sooners The Sooners have a monster starting five but not a lot off the bench but the while Oklahoma plays one quick turnaround game, the Flyers play of the third time in five days. Dayton has two things going for them in that they are 70 miles from campus so they'll have plenty of fans and that the Flyers are second in the country in getting to the foul line which will be key here considering Oklahoma's lack of depth. That said, the Sooners got over the hump with firts round win over Albany. Oklahoma had gone out in the first game the last two years and the win over the Great Danes got a huge monkey off their back. With the win, Kruger became the first coach to win in the big Dance with five teams and now it's on to bigger and better things. The Sooners beat their only A-10 opponent by 18 in their non-conf schedule so they'll be plenty confident here. Lay it. |
03-22-15 | Detroit Pistons v. Boston Celtics -5.5 | Top | 105-97 | Loss | -108 | 11 h 20 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Bluechip Beat Down is on the Boston Celtics The Pistons are just 3-12 in their L15 and are off a win over the hated Bulls last night in Motown. Detroit is 0-7 ATS when they play the second of B2Bs on the road after a home game this year. They'll meet a Boston team that has won five of seven games and finds itself in the middle of a playoff race with 12 games to go. Boston won the only meeting this year 109-102 on this floor in December, are 15-7 ATS last 22 and will have a big advantage with the Pistons Greg Monroe likely out with a sore knee. Take the homestanding Celtics. |
03-22-15 | Wichita State v. Kansas -1.5 | 78-65 | Loss | -102 | 22 h 18 m | Show
Allen's Jayhawk Bragging Rights Play is on Kansas These in state rivals have not met since 1993. Kansas always seems to find a way to duck the Shockers so it's a big deal to Wichita State. There is no doubt WSU is not as good as last year's undefeated squad that caught Kentucky in this round last year but the fact that they beat Indiana despite the Hoosiers knocking down 11-22 threes shows quality. Kansas has made a living in this round winning 12 of 13 before getting upset by Stanford last year. Self will have this team ready to play and when they are on, they are very good. Looking for Kansas to post one of their best efforts of the year to final put this "ducking" business to rest. Jayhawks by ten. |
03-21-15 | Utah v. Georgetown +4.5 | 75-64 | Loss | -107 | 28 h 32 m | Show
Allen says take Georgetown The Hoyas are similar to Utah in several ways and will not be bullied by the Ute bigs. George town took care of business against a pesky Eastern Washington team and were pretty much in control the entire game. Utah had a similar game vs. a feisty mid-major before dispatching a highly regarded Stephen F Austin team. While Utah has won by large margins all year, they did it mainly at home in the Huntsman Center and not often after they lost their Pac12 showdown with Arizona. This is a grind 'em type of game and the five points are not insignificant as the Hoyas are 7-3 in their L10 neutral court games as a road dog of 3-6 points. 59-58 somebody, take the points. |
03-21-15 | Chicago Bulls -2 v. Detroit Pistons | Top | 91-107 | Loss | -105 | 19 h 16 m | Show |
Jeff Allen NBA Play of the Day is on the Chicago Bulls This is a hugely important game for the Bulls who have just 13 game left in the regular season and still not a lock to have a first round home court in the playoffs. The Bulls have played almost all home games the last 30 days and are just 1-5 straight up in their L6 road games including a 100-91 loss on this floor on February 20th. Detroit and Stan have found out that Josh Smith wasn't the only problem on this team losing 12 of their L13 games (5-8 ATS). The Bulls are off two important home wins over Indiana and Toronto and despite being in second of B2B which is not exactly their thing (7-11 ATS), find a way to win here. |
03-21-15 | NC State v. Villanova -9.5 | 71-68 | Loss | -105 | 27 h 53 m | Show
Jeff Allen's Inner Circle Play is on the Villanova Wildcats The Wolfpack is without question the best of the Jeckyll and Hydes. Immensely talented, if NC State comes out and plays a perfect game like they have on a couple of occasions this year, Nova could be toast. We don't think so. More often than the perfect Wolfpack shows up, you get the bad Wolfpack than can lose to anyone. That won't work against the Wildcats who just win, especially the way we keep score! How about 24-9 ATS in all games this year, all as a favorite. 17-5 vs. winning teams. Nova's two losses were in games where they shot 31 and 34% from the field. N.C. State will never be confused with Virginia or Kentucky on any night of the week and we have Nova rolling easily here. |
03-21-15 | Georgia State v. Xavier -7 | 67-75 | Win | 100 | 26 h 51 m | Show
Allen says take Xavier Dayton sort of put a fly in the ointment by beating an average at best Providence team last night but the fact is that play-in winners and teen seeds that win first round upsets rarely if ever win the follow up game. Ole Miss was more the rule than Dayton and the bigger more physical and athletic X-Men will prove that point here sending Cinderella home upside down. Xavier hasn't been dancing much of late but has a proud history in this event going 19-8 ATS in its L27. Everything is falling their way to easily advance into the Sweet 16. |
03-21-15 | UAB +6 v. UCLA | 75-92 | Loss | -105 | 20 h 54 m | Show
Allen says take UAB UCLA is very fortunate to be here, not only in that they were fortunate to get an invite based on their questionable resume but they got every break imaginable vs. SMU and Alford is not likely to his 9 of 11 treys here. Bruins just 2-6 ATS in short turnaround games due to lack of depth. Grabbing points with the feel good Blazers who are loose and playing with house money. 14-5 vs. winning records and 10-4 this year as a dog, UAB lives for this spot. |
03-20-15 | Albany NY v. Oklahoma -12.5 | 60-69 | Loss | -109 | 34 h 43 m | Show
Jeff Allen's Albany/Oklahoma Super Play is on the Oklahoma Sooners Bonus Play: Oklahoma in the first half The Great Danes may have left it all on the court in their improbable come from behind win over Stoney Brook in their conference tournament. This is the great Danes fifth trip to "The Dance". They won a playoff game and are 3-1 ATS in the other four games despite all four losses coming by 12+ points. The Sooners have one of the top five starting fives in the country but have virtually nothing coming off the bench. That would make it tough to win a bunch of games in a row but will only be asked to win two short turnarounds with no travel to get to the Final Four. The Sooners have not won a tournament game since 2009 and have lost their last two first round games, last year to North Dakota State. This team will be more than aware of what happened to the three seeds yesterday and will be extremely focused in wire-to-wire win. |
03-20-15 | New York Knicks v. Philadelphia 76ers UNDER 189.5 | Top | 81-97 | Win | 100 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the 76ers/Knicks Under These teams are a combined 30-106 and the 14 win team has won the last four in the series including both games this year against the 16 win team so no interest in the side. That said, there is definitely a case for the total as these are two of the more punchless teams in the NBA, each averaging right at 92 ppg. The first two games this year racked up 174 and 189 points respectively, both going under the total. The under is 15-6 in the 76ers L21 home games and the low on this floor is 23-13 and 4-1 L5 in the series. Not sure where the points will come from here as this one falls closer to 170 than the 190 we have posted here. |
03-20-15 | Valparaiso v. Maryland UNDER 123.5 | 62-65 | Loss | -108 | 31 h 45 m | Show
Allen's Round of 64 Game of the Year is on Valpo/Maryland Under The Valpo Crusaders have been an Under machine under Bryce Drew going low in 35 of their L52 games including 12-6 this year. Obviously with numbers like that, trends regardless of the spot will reflect under but just this year Valpo is 3-0 Under as a dog (11-4 L3 years), 8-2 Low when the total opened between 120-129.5, 7-1 under vs. winning records and on and on. Maryland is now slouch in the more high octane ACC and fits several minor under situational spots themselves here. The key is that both teams play excellent perimeter defense with neither team allowing opponents better than 32% from behind the arc. If Valpo can keep things close and is not forced to chase, the first one to 60 wins. Play the under. |
03-20-15 | Indiana v. Wichita State -5.5 | 76-81 | Loss | -105 | 29 h 37 m | Show
Jeff Allen's Indiana/Wichita State Lock Parlay in Wichita State and the Over These are two teams that were heading in opposite directions heading into the tournament. The Hoosiers were 5-9 down the stretch with the most positive thing to say is that five of their L6 losses were by seven or less points. Wichita State had won nine straight including rematch with Northern Iowa before getting "Shocked" by Illinois State in the semis of the MVC tournament. That said, the Shockers have plenty of motivation to win here as it would set up a Sunday matchup with Kansas (assuming the Jayhawks take care of business), a team that has refused to play them for years. Wichita State has had lots of time to simmer and will without question bring their A game. Both teams can score the ball and this one should also fly over this easily attainable OVER. |

03-19-15 | Harvard v. North Carolina -10.5 | 65-67 | Loss | -106 | 49 h 25 m | Show
Allen's Prime Time Platinum Play is on the North Carolina Tar Heels Harvard is in the tournament for the fourth straight year but if you think this harvard outfit is anything close to the prior three editions, get it out of your mind immediately. This is an average mid-major at best that won an Ivy League that was down even for them by an act of God when Yale gagged up their final two games. North Carolina is a Jeckyll and Hyde bunch but they've had most a week to regroup after loss to Notre Dame and figure to roll right out of the box. The Tar Heels are killers on both glasses and the Crimson just do not have the personnel to do anything about it. North Carolina big. |
03-19-15 | Purdue v. Cincinnati +2 | 65-66 | Win | 100 | 49 h 14 m | Show
Allen says take Cincinnati Analysis to follow |
03-19-15 | Ohio State v. VCU +4 | 75-72 | Win | 100 | 47 h 51 m | Show
Allen says take VCU The Rams are 7-4 in this tournament under Shaka Smart, granted five of those wins came on their magical run a few years back. Losing their blood and guts four-year PG Weber (major blown knee) was a huge set back but while it took a while to get the team on track, the Rams finally flicked the switch in the A-10 tournament. The team doesn't press as much but is much better offensively with Lewis running the show. Buckeye freshman Dangelo Russell will be the best player on the floor and he might very well be the best frosh in the country but ... this doesn't appear to be a signature Thad Matta team its probably a year away assuming Russell stays. The dog is 16-7-1 the L6 years in 7-10 matchups and we like VCU straight up without the points. Take them anyway. |
03-19-15 | Georgia State v. Baylor -9 | 57-56 | Loss | -102 | 44 h 42 m | Show
Allen's Matinee Winner Before Dinner is on the Baylor Bears Both teams are 24-9 but that's where all similarity ends between these two. Georgia State is 9-1 SU and (8-2 ATS) L10 but a look at their non-conference play tells the real story with double-digit losses to Colorado State, Wisc Green Bay and a 23-point loss to common opponent Iowa State. Baylor is big, long and athletic and the Bears showed no compunction in hammering this type in their non-conference schedule routinely blowing out this kind by 20-30+ points. Scott Drew may call off the dogs but not before he takes care of business here. Take Baylor. |
03-18-15 | Wisconsin Green Bay v. Illinois State -3 | 56-69 | Win | 100 | 26 h 7 m | Show
Jeff Allen's VIP Insider is on the Illinois State Redbirds Green Bay will have the best player on the floor in Sykes but the Phoenix were just 4-4 down the stretch. They were 2-0 vs the MVC this year beating second tier Evansville and Drake. Green Bay has no perimeter game, shoots 28% from beyond the arc, 12th worst in the country. The Red Birds went 6-1 down the stretch including an upset of Wichita State before falling to Northern Iowa in finals so you know Illinois State is some quality. Green Bay just 1-5 this year as a dog and playing a team that is home and save its best for last. |
03-18-15 | Portland Trail Blazers -2 v. Miami Heat | Top | 104-108 | Loss | -115 | 12 h 46 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Interconference Game of the Month is on the Portland Trailbllazers Everyone buried the Blazers after they lost Wesley Mathews but all Portland did was circle the wagons and win eight of its last ten to challenge Memphis for the two seed in the West. In fact, the Blazers are tied with the Grizz in the loss column and are down three games in the win column with three games at hand. The Heat have alternated wins/losses in last six games and are 1-9 ATS after their L10 straight up wins which they are here after taking down Cavs and Lebron on Monday. Add to the mix the Heat's 0-12 ATS mark this year in games after a straight up dog win and Portland is an easy call. |
03-18-15 | Bucknell +12 v. Temple | 67-73 | Win | 100 | 25 h 6 m | Show
Jeff Allen's NIT Underdog Game of the Year is on the Bucknell Bison The key to beating Temple is by slowing the Owls down and forcing them into a slow down half court game. In fact, Temple has failed to score 60 points in each of their last six straight up losses. In their only game against a team out of the Patriot, Temple beat American 40-37. Bucknell might not have the DNA to follow the game plan here as the Bison are young, sub lots of people in and out, and give up a ton of points. That said, Bucknell is talented and if they can execute at the end of the newly implemented NIT 30 second clock, they can give themselvels a chance to win at the end. Regardless taking 12 in game that might not get out of the 50s still gets us to the cashier. Take the points. |
03-17-15 | UC-Davis +9.5 v. Stanford | 64-77 | Loss | -110 | 26 h 29 m | Show
Allen's Late Show Bail out is on the UC Davis Aggies It's been disappointing season for the Stanford Cardinal that started the season strong by playing Duke tough in New York and then giving up the ship going 4-8 down the stretch in a sketchy Pac12. They have two quality scorers in Chasson Randle (18.9) and Anthony Brown (14.7) but defense is an afterthought which will not work against the more fundamentally sound Aggies. Davis has a big time sniper in Corey Hawkins and enough size to match up well with the tree. Davis plays an 8-10 man rotation where even the end of the bench gets at least 15 minutes. Fresh bodies and 10 points keeps Davis close throughout in a game where Stanford might not be all that interested. |

03-17-15 | Memphis Grizzlies -4.5 v. Detroit Pistons | Top | 95-105 | Loss | -102 | 10 h 13 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Memphis Grizzlies You probably don't want to be be laying points on the road with a team that is 7-13 in its L20 and just 3-3 straight up in its L6. That said, the Grizz generally take care of business against this type and have won five straight in the series including 2-0 SU and ATS on this floor. The Pistons have quit and their 10 straight losses (2-4 ATS L6) bears that out. Reasonable price here and Grizz can make this game a priority with three days rest before Dallas. Lay it. |
03-17-15 | Central Michigan v. Louisiana Tech -5.5 | 79-89 | Win | 100 | 23 h 13 m | Show
Allen says take La Tech The Bulldogs are what they are and right where they belong. They were the regular season winner of CUSA but ran into a red-hot UAB team in the conference tounament. Tech lost its only real non-conf tests, by 10 to Temple and by two to Syracuse. They do not shoot the ball all that well and that has been their achilles tendon this year. La Tech is 16-0 at home winning by better than 16 ppg. The Chips lost three of five down the stretch and are just 6-6 SU and ATS on the road with the only win of note early on against Northwestern. Lay the points with a fired up La tech team. |
03-17-15 | Iona +7.5 v. Rhode Island | 75-88 | Loss | -114 | 23 h 30 m | Show
Allen's Pure Platinum release is on the Iona Gaels Rhode Island (22-9) is a versatile team that was in the A-10 race right to the end before losing in the tournament semis to Dayton on the Flyers home floor. The defensively excellent Rams get a home game bit not a good matchup in the Iona Gaels who will try to turn this into a track meet and pull up and shoot a three. The Gaels were first in scoring in the MAAC and seventh nationally at 79.8 per and have two guys (English and Laurie) who can really shoot the rock. In fact this is a team of wing players that all shoot the rock. It they manage to shoot better than the 35% they managed vs. Manhattan in their tournament final they'll not only cover but have a chance to win straight up. |
03-16-15 | Denver Nuggets +9 v. Memphis Grizzlies | Top | 81-92 | Loss | -107 | 12 h 40 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's Western Conference Game of the Month is on the Denver Nuggets The Grizzlies are in a tough spot here in that despite having just a two game lead for the two spot in the West, they are odds on to hold it if are judicious in their final 16 games. That means holding the line during a rash of nagging injuries to their starters including PG Mike Conley and C and defending Defensive Player of the Year Marc Gasol. Conley is questionable tonight with a bad ankle and Gasol probable but off a freshly tweaked knee. The Grizz would be happy to just win here and could care less about covering the near double-digits they're giving to the resurgent Nuggets here. The Grizz are 1-4 L5 as a home favorite coming in. Denver is 6-2 straight up and ATS under interim coach Melvin Hunt and off a straight up win at a desperate and equally red hot Pelican outfit in New Orleans. The bounce of changing coaches doesn't figure to go on forever, especially in the loaded Western Conference but the Nuggets are going nowhere and can play loose and in the role of spoiler the rest of the way. Hot team in a pretty good spot. Take the points. |

03-15-15 | Portland Trail Blazers v. Toronto Raptors UNDER 204.5 | 113-97 | Loss | -105 | 10 h 51 m | Show

03-15-15 | Michigan State v. Wisconsin -6.5 | 69-80 | Win | 100 | 7 h 25 m | Show
Allen's Big Ten Championship Game Super Play is on the Wisconsin Badgers All the talking heads are clamoring for the Badgers to get a No.1 seed so Wisky will have plenty of motivation to not only win but look impressive here. they were exactly that two weeks ago when they beat Mich State 68-61 in the only meeting this year outrebounding the Spartans by 16 and only turning the ball over eight times. Michigan State has won this tourney two of the last three years and 9 of its last 10 tourney games but this is not one of Izzo's better teams. Take Wisconsin. |
03-15-15 | VCU -1 v. Dayton | 71-65 | Win | 100 | 5 h 55 m | Show
Allen's A-10 Championship Game Super Play is on the VCU Rams VCU plays for the fourth day in a row, Dayton just its third. That said, VCU is so deep and can throw so many bodies at you that fatigue will not play a factor here. Dayton has won eight of ten including a February 28th road win over these Rams. VCU is 21-5 in this tournament the last several years and has suddenly found a shooting touch that it hasn't displayed all year. Revenge, pedigree and coaching gets VCU through here. |

03-14-15 | Detroit Pistons v. Utah Jazz -7.5 | Top | 85-88 | Loss | -102 | 11 h 19 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Utah Jazz |
03-14-15 | North Carolina -3 v. Notre Dame | 82-90 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 42 m | Show
Jeff Allen's ACC Championship Game winner is on the North Carolina Tar Heels The Irish have won seven of eight but only play seven or eight guys and played three starters 36+ minutes the last two games. Notre Dame got out of the gate fast in both its game building double-digit leads and then holding on late. North Carolina was just 4-6 down the stretch before winning three straight days. Fourth straight game for Heels but UNC is 16-7 L23 in this tourney and in revenge spot off a 71-70 Irish win on January 5th that saw Tar Heels +17 on the glass but saw Notre Dame knock down 10-23 treys. North Carolina sucks it up here for another big effort. Heels by eight. |
03-14-15 | Michigan State -2.5 v. Maryland | 62-58 | Win | 100 | 6 h 34 m | Show
Allen's Big Ten semi winner is on the Michigan State Spartans Both teams are playing extremely well. The Terps have won their last nine and have really turned it up on the defensive end allowing just 57 and change ppg. Michigan State has won seven of nine and it's about this time every year that Izzo's bunch hits its stride. Both teams had four starters play 30+ minutes in wins yesterday so no edge there. Maryland won both meeting this year so it's a double revenge spot for Sparty who has won this tournament two of the last three years. Pedigree gets the money here. |
03-13-15 | Oklahoma U v. Iowa State | 65-67 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 55 m | Show
Allens' Big 12 Platinum release is on the Oklahoma Sooners The teams split home games during the year, Oklahoma winning by 11 in Norman and the Cyclones winning by seven at Ames. Oklahoma has one of the best starting fives in college basketball but gets little relief off the bench. Still, like the Sooners here against an Iowa State team that played three of their starters 36+ minutes in yesterdays stunner over Texas, a game where the Cyclones scored the final 12 points. Kruger finds a way against a team that is living on borrowed time. |
03-13-15 | Wyoming v. Boise State -5 | 71-66 | Loss | -106 | 11 h 23 m | Show
Allen's MWC Sin City Brawl winner is the Boise Broncos Leon Rice has done a great job with a Broncos outfit that lost its best player (Anthony Drmic) before the season and is still 25-7 battling other injuries and playing a tough non-conference schedule. Wyoming won the one regular season meeting in Laramie in a game that saw Bronco's shoot an ice cold 18-49 from the field and get crushed on the boards 30-19. The Cowboys have won a couple of games since Nance Jr has worked his way back from mono but Wyoming has struggled away from home floor and meets team on a mission here. |
03-13-15 | Los Angeles Clippers +1.5 v. Dallas Mavericks | Top | 99-129 | Loss | -110 | 12 h 3 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Los Angeles Clippers It's not exactly freefall yet but there are definitely problems in Dallas where the Mavs are 2-5 L7 (1-6 ATS) and off a 33 point home loss to the Cavs in their last. Despite being at home, things don't figure to improve here tonight against an injury plagued Clipper team that has beaten them eight of the last ten meetings. Doc Rivers crew has circled the wagons with CP3 and DeAndre Jordan have both stepped up their games. Chris Paul comes in with nine straight points/assists double-doubles and Jordan s averaging 19 boards per in his last six as the Clipper have won five of seven and are 5-1 in their L6 as a road dog. The Mavs, who average 104.3 at home and 105.2 overall have averaged just 92.0 ppg. over their L5 and that just won't cut it here. Dallas will have to get well against a softer touch. Take the points. |
03-13-15 | Penn State v. Purdue -6 | 59-64 | Loss | -106 | 5 h 59 m | Show
Allen's Big Ten Super Play is on the Purdue Boilermakers Penn State guaranteed themselves NIT spot with two wins in this tournament, a big deal for a program on the come and the Nits will be a tough out in the "Minor" dance as they will likely get two home games before going to New York. That said, Penn State [lays third straight day and doesn't match up well against a big physical Purdue team that has been an ATS ATM machine all year. Boilers won the only regular season meeting at Happy Valley by seven in early January and should be up to the task here. |
03-12-15 | New York Knicks v. Los Angeles Lakers -7 | Top | 101-94 | Loss | -105 | 16 h 23 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Lakers We used the Lakers on Tuesday as our Play of the Day and were rewarded with a wire-to-wire win as a 2.5 point dog. We'll be laying some not insignificant points here but coming right back. We pointed of the Lakers probable blueprint for the final 20 games. The LakeShow needs to stay in the bottom five to maintain their protected lottery pick and to that end they are four games clear. That said, this team needs to pick its spots where it can win, especially in a game like this at home against a fellow marquee franchise trainwreck. The Knicks have lost 13 of 15 and are 3-6-1 L10 as a road dog while the Lakers have lost five of six. Throw out the numbers in this game between two teams that are a combined 29-97, the Lakers blow out a horrific Knickerbocker team in one the last opportunities to send the Staple Center faithful home with a smile. |

03-12-15 | Minnesota +5.5 v. Ohio State | 73-79 | Loss | -106 | 10 h 39 m | Show
Allen Late steam on Minnesota |
03-12-15 | Tennessee v. Vanderbilt -4 | 67-61 | Loss | -106 | 21 h 6 m | Show
Allen says take Vanderbilt The Commodores are red hot. After starting 1-7 in conference, The Dores have won five straight and eight of ten. These state rivals split games this year, each winning on the other's home court. The Vols have lost six of seven and 10 of 13 so these are teams clearly going in opposite directions. Vandy has one their first game in this tournament and will be looking to rebound from an open game butt licking last year. Lay it. |
03-12-15 | NC State +8.5 v. Duke | 53-77 | Loss | -106 | 8 h 33 m | Show
Allen Late Steam N.C. State |
03-12-15 | Alabama +4 v. Florida | 61-69 | Loss | -106 | 15 h 8 m | Show
Allen's SEC early Slam Dunk is on the Alabama Crimson Tide It was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Florida but Bill Donovan still has to be scratching his head about his 15-16 Gators. Florida has won the last five games in the series, four of which were covered by the Crimson Tide. Florida won the only meeting this year 52-50 in Tuscaloosa in a game the Gators led 35-22 at the half and then hung on. Neither team showed buy signs down the stretch but Tide coach Anthony Grant is clearly on one the hottest seats in college basketball. Look for his troop to circle the wagons and come with some strong efforts here and in the NIT. |
03-12-15 | Michigan +3.5 v. Illinois | 73-55 | Win | 100 | 14 h 4 m | Show
Allen's Big Ten Beat Down is on the Michigan Wolverines The teams split games this year with each home team winning after being down at the half. Both teams have had a lot of recent neutral court and tournament success but in the end we;ll grab the Wolverines and the points against a team they've beaten five of the last six in the series (4-2 ATS) in a spot where they can salvage something from a pretty much lost season. |
03-11-15 | Houston Rockets v. Portland Trail Blazers OVER 206.5 | Top | 100-105 | Loss | -105 | 20 h 7 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Rockets/Blazers Over These two are duking it out for the three seed in the West, the Blazers are two games back in the win column. These two are also no strangers having met in the playoffs last year and 18 times over the past three years. The series is tied 8-8 but the over is 13-3 including six of the last seven at the Rose center. The first two meetings, both in Houston, both went over the total with the finals (205, 207) falling right around tonight's number but the pace figures to up and down with lots easy points scored in transition. Play the over. |
03-11-15 | Marquette v. Seton Hall -1 | 78-56 | Loss | -106 | 25 h 1 m | Show
Allen's Big East Super Play is on the Seton Hall Pirates Somebodies nightmare season will come to an end tonight. Wojo found out that this coaching gig thing is not that easy. The Eagles lost six of seven down the stretch and even under Buzz lost in the first round of this tournament the last four years. Seton Hall lost eight of its final nine with the win by a point. The Pirates have actually been live recently in this tournament winning five of their last six first round games. The teams split during the year with the road teams winning on the others home floor. The Hall is a 45 minute bus ride to MSG and the students figure to represent in what should be the teams second to last game of the year. My numbers have the Pony Pirates winning comfortably. |
03-11-15 | Eastern Michigan v. Bowling Green -2.5 | 73-67 | Loss | -106 | 24 h 22 m | Show
Allen says take Bowling Green The Falcons beat the EMUs 74-58 back in January going 11-25 from beyond the arc. The BGs are 14-5 ATS in MAC games this year and are 10-4 as a MAC fave. Bowling Green was without leading scorer Richaun Holmes (14.5 ppg.) in Monday win over Ball State. Holmes suffered a head injury in finale vs. Buffalo but was dressed and sat on the bunch. He's listed as questionable but the next man up didn't skip a beat in last. Eastern Mich won first game in OT after being down by double-digits with 8:00 to play. The Eagles are 2-6 as a conference dog and living on borrowed time. Take Bowling Green. |
03-11-15 | Florida State +1 v. Clemson | 76-73 | Win | 100 | 18 h 2 m | Show
Allen's ACC Bankroll Jumpstarter Florida State Tournament history and current ATS form is all Florida State. The teams split during the regular season with each team winning on the others home court. Clemson covered three of its final four but went 2-6 straight up down the stretch. The Tigers are 4-8 in their first game in this tourney over the past 12 years. Young Florida State is 10-2 ATS in its L12 and are 6-2 in their first game in the tournament over the L8 years. They won it all in 2012 with a similar albeit senior laden team. Wrong team favored here. Sems by eight. |
03-10-15 | Detroit Pistons v. Los Angeles Lakers +2.5 | Top | 85-93 | Win | 100 | 14 h 21 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Los Angeles Lakers Two teams playing out the string of nightmare seasons square off in tonight's NBA final. Stan Van Gundy walked into a bigger mess than he ever imagined when he took over the train wreck left by Joe Dumars. SVG will get things straightened out in time but after a mid-season run after dealing Josh Smith, the team has gone backwards and has lost six straight. The Pistons are a ticket burning 7-14 as a favorite. The Lakers have 16 wins and currently hold the fourth worst record in the NBA with 20 games to play. They need to stay in the bottom five to keep their lottery pick and have a five game cushion as of today. That said, the Lakers need to keep the Staples Center somewhat interested picking their spots in home games against teams like this. The Lakers have lost five straight but are 7-1 ATS L8 so they're at least giving some effort. The Lakers have dominated this series going 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in the L5 of the series and figure to defend their floor here. Take the very live home dog. |
03-10-15 | Georgia Tech v. Boston College -2 | 65-66 | Loss | -121 | 4 h 23 m | Show
Jeff Allen's ACC Opening Round Super Play is on Boston College These are two teams headed in opposite directions. G Tech has lost eight of ten and is just 1-4 in this tournament the last four years. The Jackets are 20-55 in the conference under this coach and will likely make a change after this tournament. Boston College started the ACC season 1-14 but to their credit never quit and have won three straight and own a 64-62 road win in Atlanta back in January. The Eagles have had nice success in this tournament winning six of their L9 first round games and they'll have no excuses here. |
03-09-15 | New York Knicks v. Denver Nuggets -8.5 | Top | 78-106 | Win | 100 | 11 h 16 m | Show |
Jeff Allen's NBA Play of the Day is on the Denver Nuggets Both these teams are simply playing out the string but while the Knicks are a train wreck, the Nuggets are starting to show buy sign after their recent coaching change. The Knicks are 2-11 in their L13 going 4-8-1 in the process. Eight of the losses have come by double-digits. The Nuggets won their first two games after the Shaw firing but followed that up with losses to the Spurs and Rockets, no shame there. The home team has won the last 11 games in the series and figure to win straight up here but will they cover the hefty number ??? We think they will as the team's professionalism was called into question during recent six week home losing streak. Denver can do well against their own kind and the Knicks certain fill that description. Lay it. |
03-09-15 | Pepperdine v. Gonzaga -14 | 61-79 | Win | 100 | 12 h 11 m | Show
Allen's Monday Night WCC Semi Super Play is on Gonzaga The Zags are pretty much locked into a Big Dance two-seed but they are playing for the No.1 seed in the West should Virginia or Villanova falter and also for a revenge rematch with BYU who beat the Zags in the season finale snapping a long home court win streak. Gonzaga is 20-3 L23 in this tourney winning it eight times in 11 years. The Waves are much improved and very well coached. They were swept in the season series 78-76 and and 56-48 but were catching 18 in each game for easy covers. That said, can't discount Pepperdine history in this tournament. Their L3 WCC tournament wins were followed up by losses of 18-24-17 points. We'll take a focused Zag oufit here. |
