11-07-23 | Stony Brook v. St. John's -18 | Top | 74-90 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 10 m | Show |
The instant Rick Pitino arrived to coach St. John's on March 20, expectations were raised for a program without an NCAA Tournament win since 2000. After a busy offseason highlighted by a roster revamp, the highly anticipated Pitino era gets underway on Tuesday night when the Red Storm host Stony Brook in the season opener for both teams in New York. Pitino joined St. John's after three years at Iona -- his first collegiate job since being dismissed from Louisville in 2017 because of an FBI investigation that led to allegations of NCAA violations. Eventually, Pitino was cleared in the FBI-related case and led Iona to two NCAA Tournament berths. The Red Storm went 18-15 overall and 7-13 in Big East play, finishing eighth in the conference in the fourth and final season under Mike Anderson. St. John's did not reach the NCAA Tournament under Anderson and has played in five tourney games since its last win in 2000. |

11-07-23 | Ball State v. Northern Illinois OVER 43.5 | Top | 20-17 | Loss | -113 | 10 h 1 m | Show |
11-07-23 | Florida Gulf Coast v. Indiana UNDER 143.5 | Top | 63-69 | Win | 100 | 10 h 55 m | Show |
As it comes off a 23-win campaign, Indiana will feature several new faces when it opens its season against Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday evening in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers will welcome newcomers Kel'el Ware, Mackenzie Mgbako and Gabe Cupps. Ware is a sophomore transfer from Oregon who was a McDonald's All-American in 2022, and Mgbako is a true freshman who earned McDonald's All-American status last season. Indiana coach Mike Woodson hopes the influx of talent can help fill the void left by longtime standout Trayce Jackson-Davis, who averaged 20.9 points and 10.8 rebounds last season. Jackson-Davis now plays for the NBA's Golden State Warriors. Ware is a 7-foot center who averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 rebounds for Oregon last season. He also blocked 1.3 shots per game. The North Little Rock, Ark., native will get every chance to build upon those numbers this season. |
|||||||
11-06-23 | Idaho +21.5 v. Washington State | Top | 59-84 | Loss | -110 | 25 h 25 m | Show |
Washington State welcomes nine newcomers this season, including one player from Idaho, which will play at Pullman, Wash., on Monday night in the Battle of the Palouse. The two schools, separated by eight miles, took a season off in their longstanding rivalry last season. They will meet for the 278th time, with Washington State leading the series 167-110. Isaac Jones, a 6-foot-9 senior forward, averaged 19.4 points and 7.8 rebounds a game last season for the Vandals and is among the players who will experience the rivalry. Kyle Smith, entering his fifth season as Washington State's head coach, plans to play a big lineup of Jones, 6-11 junior college transfer Oscar Cluff and 6-11 true freshman Rueben Chinyelu of Nigeria at the same time. |
|||||||
11-06-23 | Chargers v. Jets +3.5 | Top | 27-6 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 36 m | Show |
Los Angeles is allowing 320.7 gross passing yards per game this season, which would be the highest average in a single season in NFL history. The current mark of 311.8 was set by the Packers in 2011 (311.8).

|||||||
11-06-23 | Bruins +120 v. Stars | Top | 3-2 | Win | 120 | 11 h 43 m | Show |
The Dallas Stars host the Boston Bruins in a Monday night clash of early-season NHL heavyweights who are looking to shake off tough weekend losses. Boston let an early 2-0 lead slip away for the second straight game and later surrendered three third-period goals in Saturday's 5-4 loss at Detroit, its first regulation setback of the season. Now 9-1-1, the Bruins did not have defensemen Charlie McAvoy (who is appealing a four-game suspension for an illegal check to the head), Matt Grzelcyk and Derek Forbort available to begin their two-game road trip. Instead, the back line featured 22-year-old Mason Lohrei playing only his second NHL game, as well as Parker Wotherspoon and Ian Mitchell, who have 14 and 86 games under their belts, respectively. |
|||||||
11-06-23 | Clippers v. Knicks OVER 224.5 | Top | 97-111 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 21 m | Show |
The James Harden Show returns to New York on Monday night. But the New York Knicks are more concerned with ensuring they are more than the Jalen Brunson Show. Harden will make his 2023-24 debut Monday, when he and the Los Angeles Clippers visit the Knicks in the first clash of the season between the teams. The Clippers have been off since Wednesday, when they fell to the host Los Angeles Lakers 130-125 in overtime. The Knicks dropped their opener in the NBA's in-season tournament Friday 110-105 against the host Milwaukee Bucks. Harden, who was acquired from the Philadelphia 76ers in a three-way deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, watched from the sidelines Wednesday as the Clippers' 11-game winning streak against their L.A. rival ended. The Clippers, who will add Harden to a starting lineup that includes stars Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook, are the latest franchise hoping Harden will be the missing piece for a championship-caliber super team. But Harden played a total of just 159 games for the Brooklyn Nets and 76ers since January 2021. He said Thursday that he felt limited for Philadelphia last season, when he averaged 21.0 points per game -- his fewest since his third year in the league -- but led the NBA with 10.7 assists per game while collecting five triple-doubles. 11-06-23 | Warriors v. Pistons UNDER 229 | Top | 120-109 | Push | 0 | 10 h 12 m | Show |
Golden State saw its five-game winning streak snapped by Cleveland on Sunday. The Warriors won't have to wait long to try to start a new one. They'll finish a back-to-back set in Detroit on Monday. Golden State had all of its stars available against the Cavaliers but endured a poor shooting performance in the 115-104 defeat. The Warriors shot 36.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line. Stephen Curry led them in scoring with 28 points but he also committed six turnovers. Chris Paul had a rough game off the bench, contributing just five points on 2-for-10 shooting and two assists. |
|||||||
11-06-23 | Lightning v. Maple Leafs OVER 6.5 | Top | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 10 h 32 m | Show |
The Toronto Maple Leafs will be out to improve their defense and end a four-game losing streak when they meet the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning Monday night. The Maple Leafs opened a five-game homestand with a 6-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Saturday despite a hat trick by Auston Matthews. Mitchell Marner added a goal and three assists. The Lightning, meanwhile, did not waste a hat trick by Brayden Point Saturday when they defeated the host Ottawa Senators 6-4. Nikita Kucherov added a goal and four assists. The Sabres, who had lost 5-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers at home on Friday, had more energy than Toronto. |
|||||||
11-06-23 | Samford v. Purdue -19 | Top | 45-98 | Win | 100 | 21 h 10 m | Show |
The last time Purdue's men's basketball team played a meaningful game, it was being dealt an upset for the ages at last season's NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers' 63-58 first-round loss to Fairleigh Dickinson in Columbus, Ohio, seemed less a fluke and more a bad matchup as the game progressed. They couldn't get enough help for National Player of the Year Zach Edey and had trouble keeping the Knights from getting the shots they wanted. It added up to just the second 16-over-1 victory in NCAA tourney history, sending Purdue into a long offseason that will finally end on Nov. 6 when it starts the new season in West Lafayette, Ind., against Samford. On paper, it's hard to imagine the Boilermakers won't make a March impact in 2024. They won 29 games last season and return nearly all of their starters, including Edey (22.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.1 blocked shots). Purdue added quick, defensive-minded guard Lance Jones in the transfer portal. He also scored 1,514 points in four years at Southern Illinois, where he never had a post player like Edey. |
|||||||
11-05-23 | Golden Knights v. Ducks OVER 6 | Top | 2-4 | Push | 0 | 9 h 10 m | Show |
Revived under new head coach Greg Cronin, the Anaheim Ducks will be put to the test Sunday night when they host the reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights. Cronin was begging for some selfishness from his forwards early in the season, saying they seemed more interested in making the perfect pass. While imploring for more shots, he was really interested in his scorers taking shots as soon as those shots presented themselves. After a home 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Oct. 22, Cronin said he was going to establish a "value system" as a way to reward opportunities on net. The plan: "We're going to just shoot pucks." The Ducks have since pieced together a five-game winning streak that included three overtime victories, including a 4-3 triumph in extra time at home over the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday. Troy Terry completed a hat trick against the Coyotes by scoring in overtime. |
|||||||
11-05-23 | Devils v. Blackhawks +1.5 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -130 | 8 h 22 m | Show |
Sunday night's game between the Chicago Blackhawks and visiting New Jersey Devils initially shaped up as a matchup of two of the past five top overall picks in the NHL draft. An upper-body injury to New Jersey star forward Jack Hughes, however, figures to shine more of the spotlight on Chicago's Connor Bedard, the No. 1 selection in 2023. Hughes' status remained uncertain after he left during the first period of Friday's 4-1 loss at St. Louis. Hughes, the top draft choice in 2019, crashed into the boards midway through the period while splitting the Blues' defense. He returned for his next shift but went to the locker room shortly thereafter. Sportsnet reported the Devils "avoided the worst-case scenario" with Hughes, who is expected to miss some playing time due to the injury. |

11-05-23 | Warriors v. Cavs -1.5 | Top | 104-115 | Win | 100 | 8 h 54 m | Show |
The Cavs have lost 12 straight games against the Warriors, but yet we're looking at Cleveland as a favorite. Something smells in this one. |
|||||||
11-05-23 | Giants v. Raiders UNDER 38 | Top | 6-30 | Win | 100 | 8 h 13 m | Show |
11-05-23 | Rams v. Packers OVER 38 | Top | 3-20 | Loss | -110 | 5 h 50 m | Show |
11-05-23 | Dolphins v. Chiefs UNDER 51.5 | Top | 14-21 | Win | 100 | 2 h 33 m | Show |
11-04-23 | Avalanche -1.5 v. Golden Knights | Top | 0-7 | Loss | -100 | 11 h 11 m | Show |
The Avalanche look to extend their road winning streak over the Golden Knights to five games. Colorado won the only meeting in Las Vegas between the teams in 2022-23, and won 3-0 at home in the most recent matchup February 27 behind a 31-save effort from Alexandar Georgiev.
|
|||||||
11-04-23 | Oregon State v. Colorado +13.5 | Top | 26-19 | Win | 100 | 13 h 11 m | Show |
Colorado has improved its points per game average from 15.4 last season to 32.1 this season (+16.7) and its passing yards per game average from 172.9 to 330.0 (+157.1), both of which are the largest improvements in the FBS. The passing yards per game improvement would be the largest by any Pac-12 team in the last 25 years.
|
|||||||
11-04-23 | Jazz v. Wolves UNDER 225 | Top | 95-123 | Win | 100 | 10 h 10 m | Show |
The Jazz are off to their worst start through six games since 2014-15 when they started 2-4. This includes being outscored by a total of 22 points over that span -- Utah's highest opponent scoring margin through six games since 2014-15 (29).
It won't make up for what happened in the 2023 playoffs, but the Minnesota Timberwolves are riding high into Saturday's game in Minneapolis against the Utah Jazz after picking up a big victory in their most recent performance. On Wednesday, the Timberwolves handed the reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets their first loss of the 2023-24 season with a 110-89 blowout victory at home. Anthony Edwards scored 24 points for Minnesota, Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 21 points and eight rebounds and Mike Conley hit 7 of 9 shots for 17 points in the start-to-finish win. |
|||||||
11-04-23 | Lakers -3.5 v. Magic | Top | 101-120 | Loss | -110 | 9 h 19 m | Show |
The Lakers have won their last seven matchups with the Magic, including winning their last four by at least nine points in Orlando.
|
|||||||
11-04-23 | Predators v. Oilers -1.5 | Top | 5-2 | Loss | -100 | 4 h 18 m | Show |
The Oilers look to run their point streak against the Predators to 13 games as they meet for the second time this season. Edmonton improved to 10-0-2 in the last 12 matchups with a 6-1 rout at Nashville on October 17 as Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman each had four-point efforts.
|
|||||||
11-04-23 | Nebraska v. Michigan State UNDER 35 | Top | 17-20 | Loss | -110 | 3 h 28 m | Show |
Nebraska will try to use the same formula that has led to a three-game win streak when it visits Michigan State on Saturday in East Lansing, Mich. The Cornhuskers (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) have limited their last three opponents to a combined 30 points, most recently beating Purdue 31-14 at home to move within a game of being bowl eligible for the first time in seven years. Overall, they're allowing 18.6 points per game, sixth best in the conference and 21st nationally. A year ago, they were near the bottom of the Big Ten in most defensive categories, but first-year coach Matt Rhule still isn't satisfied. (FLM) |
|||||||
11-03-23 | Devils v. Blues OVER 6.5 | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -120 | 10 h 21 m | Show |
The Blues will need a breakthrough Friday when they host the streaking New Jersey Devils on Friday night. The Blues have lost their last two games, 5-0 at Vancouver and 4-2 at Colorado, while the Devils have won five of their last six. Blues coach Craig Berube juggled his forward line combinations, defensive pairings and power-play units ahead of Wednesday night's loss to the Avalanche. Despite those changes, the Blues faded to their third loss in their last four games. The Blues are just 1-for-25 on the power play this season and they have struggled to generate chances at even strength as well. Thomas is the team's leading scorer with six points (two goals, four assists). Key forwards Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich and Jakub Vrana have scored just one goal each while Brayden Schenn and Kevin Hayes have yet to score. Defenseman Justin Faulk said the Blues have to keep grinding away to create breaks. The Blues give us just enough to push this over. |
|||||||
11-03-23 | Devils -148 v. Blues | Top | 1-4 | Loss | -148 | 10 h 12 m | Show |
After scoring just 15 goals in their first eight games, the St. Louis Blues are getting desperate to generate offense. |
|||||||
11-03-23 | Colorado State v. Wyoming -6 | Top | 15-24 | Win | 100 | 11 h 34 m | Show |
11-03-23 | Knicks v. Bucks -5.5 | Top | 105-110 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 18 m | Show |
Most teams welcoming a new coach and a seven-time All-Star likely would experience a few growing pains, and the Milwaukee Bucks are proving to be no exception. After splitting their first four games, the Bucks' adjustment period continues when they face the visiting New York Knicks on Friday in their first game of the NBA's inaugural in-season tournament. Milwaukee coach Adrian Griffin is looking for an improved defensive effort after his team lost 130-111 to the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday. Malik Beasley scored 20 points to lead the Bucks, who acquired star guard Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers in late September. After scoring 39 points in an opening-night win, Lilliard has averaged 15.3 in his past three games. The Bucks also are in a transition period as Griffin looks to integrate Lillard into a starting rotation that includes Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Everyone involved is eager to start becoming more consistent on both ends of the floor. That transition stops tonight, Milwaukee rolls. |
|||||||
11-03-23 | Boston College v. Syracuse UNDER 51 | Top | 17-10 | Win | 100 | 10 h 50 m | Show |
Boston College and Syracuse are trending in opposite directions entering Friday night's Atlantic Coast Conference contest on the Orange's home turf. The Eagles (5-3, 2-2) have won four in a row, while the Orange (4-4, 0-4) have dropped four straight and are the only remaining winless team in ACC play. Boston College allowed at least 27 points in each of its first four games but has not yielded more than 24 in any game during its current winning streak. The Eagles are coming off a 21-14 triumph against UConn in a game in which the Eagles' Kye Robichaux ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Syracuse, meanwhile, is looking to recover from a brutal stretch in which it lost to Clemson, North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia Tech by a combined margin of 150-34. On the bright side, the Orange have won two straight matchups with the Eagles, including 32-23 a season ago. Friday's contest will be the Eagles' third road game in the last four outings, although the team certainly won't be getting any sympathy cards from the Orange. Syracuse has not played at home since its Sept. 30 loss against Clemson. (FLM) |
|||||||
11-03-23 | Cavs -2 v. Pacers | Top | 116-121 | Loss | -115 | 10 h 11 m | Show |
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers get the honor of being the first two participants in the new NBA in-season tournament when they tip off the event Friday night in Indianapolis. Seven games are slated on opening night of the soccer-inspired tournament -- none earlier than the scheduled tip in Indiana -- during which the Cavaliers and Pacers will join the Philadelphia 76ers, Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons in round-robin play in East Group A. The game is a rematch of the Pacers' 125-113 win at Cleveland last Saturday, a contest in which Indiana reserve Aaron Nesmith scorched the Cavaliers for 26 points while the hosts were without star guard Donovan Mitchell. Indiana, which was 2-0 at the time, has since struggled, falling 112-105 at home to the Chicago Bulls and then 155-104 at Boston on Wednesday night. The 105- and 104-point efforts came after the Pacers had scorched the Washington Wizards and Cavaliers for an average of 134 points in their first two games. |
|||||||
11-02-23 | Spurs v. Suns -8 | Top | 132-121 | Loss | -110 | 13 h 7 m | Show |
The San Antonio Spurs won the first of two matchups with the Phoenix Suns in stunning fashion. Now the Spurs will attempt to make it a sweep in the rematch on Thursday night in Phoenix. San Antonio never led in Tuesday's contest until Keldon Johnson put the ball through the net with 1.2 seconds left. The hoop came shortly after Victor Wembanyama dunked home a putback with 6.8 seconds remaining to bring San Antonio within one. Phoenix star Kevin Durant received the inbounds pass and was waiting to get fouled in the right corner by Tre Jones. But Johnson came in and stole the ball from Durant with just over four seconds left and drove for the decisive basket. (FLM) |
|||||||
11-02-23 | Predators v. Seattle Kraken UNDER 6 | Top | 2-4 | Push | 0 | 12 h 25 m | Show |
After playing seven of their first 10 games on the road, the Seattle Kraken are ready for some home cooking. The Kraken will have eight home games in November, starting with Thursday night's matchup against the Nashville Predators. The Kraken just completed a four-game trip against the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning in which they went 2-1-1, with both victories coming in overtime. Jared McCann scored a power-play goal 2:53 into the extra session, his team-leading fifth marker of the season, in a 4-3 victory Monday against the Lightning, whom the Kraken had not beaten in four previous tries. (FLM) |
|||||||
11-02-23 | Titans v. Steelers UNDER 37 | Top | 16-20 | Win | 100 | 10 h 21 m | Show |
It took all of four quarters for Will Levis to offer a glimpse of why the Tennessee Titans were so high on him in the draft. Throwing for four touchdowns in your debut - three of which came on the kind of downfield heaves that left scouts in awe - will do that. Levis and the Titans (3-4) don't have much time to prep for an encore. Tennessee visits Pittsburgh (4-3) on Thursday night with a chance to prove their electric win over Atlanta wasn't a fluke but a sign of things to come. It's a game Levis circled when the schedule came out even though he was buried on the depth chart at the time. Not anymore. Ryan Tannehill is expected to miss a second straight game with a sprained right ankle, meaning Levis will run onto the Acrisure Stadium turf as the starter for now ... and quite possibly for good. (FLM) |
|||||||
11-02-23 | Titans v. Steelers -2.5 | Top | 16-20 | Win | 100 | 10 h 13 m | Show |
While the Falcons had only tape of Levis from Tennessee's preseason opener in the Titans' offense, Pittsburgh has a full game to break down and study the rookie for anything to exploit. |
|||||||
11-02-23 | Pistons v. Pelicans OVER 216.5 | Top | 116-125 | Win | 100 | 11 h 17 m | Show |
The New Orleans Pelicans overcame a 22-point deficit to win Wednesday night. The Detroit Pistons lost despite holding an 18-point lead Wednesday night. Both teams will complete back-to-back sets when the Pelicans host the Pistons on Thursday night. CJ McCollum scored 29 points to lead New Orleans' comeback in a 110-106 road victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He made 10 of 17 field-goal attempts, including 5 of 8 3-point attempts, and added 11 rebounds and five assists (FLM) |

11-02-23 | South Alabama v. Troy OVER 44.5 | Top | 10-28 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 4 m | Show |
11-02-23 | Islanders v. Capitals OVER 5.5 | Top | 3-0 | Loss | -108 | 10 h 32 m | Show |
The Washington Capitals aim to win their fourth straight game on Thursday when they host the New York Islanders. The Capitals began their winning streak with a 6-4 victory in New Jersey before capturing the first two contests of their five-game homestand. Washington followed up a 3-2 shootout win over the Minnesota Wild last Friday with a 3-1 victory over the winless San Jose Sharks on Sunday. Rugged Tom Wilson, fellow forward Dylan Strome and superstar captain Alex Ovechkin are picking up steam on an individual basis. Wilson recorded his 300th career point, scoring for the second time in as many games on Sunday. He is riding a four-game point streak (two goals, two assists). Strome has scored in three straight games to boost his team-leading goal total to six. (FLM) |
|||||||
11-02-23 | Lightning -150 v. Blue Jackets | Top | 2-4 | Loss | -150 | 9 h 21 m | Show |
The Columbus Blue Jackets have not had the start to the new campaign they wanted, but perhaps the best strategy Thursday would be to somehow take the Tampa Bay Lightning to overtime. Winning just three of its first nine games, the Metro Division club hosts the Lightning in the first of three matchups, two of them taking place in Ohio's capital. If Thursday's contest does go to overtime, something will ultimately have to give or go to a shootout. Columbus is 0-2 in the three-on-three, five-minute extra session. It lost consecutive games in late October to Anaheim and Montreal, as the Ducks' Frank Vatrano and the Canadiens' Cole Caufield dashed any hopes of a first overtime win with game-winners. In the Ducks game that started two hours late due to a power outage in and around the Columbus arena, Blue Jackets coach Pascal Vincent said his offense's power shortage caused the match to head to overtime and Vatrano's extra-time, breakaway tally. (FLM) |

11-02-23 | TCU +3 v. Texas Tech | Top | 28-35 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 48 m | Show |
Preseason goals have been adjusted for TCU and Texas Tech heading into Thursday night's Big 12 Conference showdown in Lubbock. But that doesn't mean there will be any less intensity when the rivals meet. The visiting Horned Frogs (4-4, 2-3) have found life more treacherous this season compared with 2022, when a stretch of strong play blended with good fortune to vault the team into the national championship game. For the Red Raiders (3-5, 2-3), a spate of injuries -- especially at quarterback -- and some close-call losses have punctured the chance to fulfill various preseason prognostications that pegged them as a conference sleeper. Now the two proud programs will collide, each coming off a bye week and each eager to bounce back after tough-to-stomach losses. On Oct. 21, TCU absorbed a 41-3 rout at Kansas State, and Texas Tech lost 27-14 at BYU in a game when the Red Raiders' five turnovers derailed any chance of the team keeping pace with the Cougars. Though he downplayed it, this will be the first trip back to Lubbock for TCU's Sonny Dykes as a head coach at the school where his father, Spike Dykes, won 82 games from 1986-99.(FLM) |

11-01-23 | Kings +7 v. Warriors | Top | 101-102 | Win | 100 | 25 h 6 m | Show |
11-01-23 | Blues v. Avalanche UNDER 6.5 | Top | 1-4 | Win | 100 | 11 h 10 m | Show |
The Colorado offense was scary to begin this season, but now it's scary how cold the Avalanche are with the puck. Colorado won its first six games by averaging 4.7 goals a game but has been held scoreless in its past two. The Avalanche hope to find the back of the net again when they host the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night. Colorado's struggles on the offensive end were a little surprising, especially coming on the road against Pittsburgh and Buffalo, two teams struggling at the onset of the year. The Avalanche managed just 23 shots on goal against the Sabres while suffering consecutive shutout losses for the first time in seven years. |
|||||||
11-01-23 | Hornets v. Rockets UNDER 223 | Top | 119-128 | Loss | -110 | 25 h 20 m | Show |
At no point was there an expectation that the Houston Rockets, with their mix of youthful holdovers and new veterans, would make everything work with precision from the onset. There will be growing pains, and cohesion will take time. Case in point: After erasing what had been a 16-point deficit against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, the Rockets took their first lead since late in the first quarter when Jalen Green scored through a foul for an 87-85 advantage with 6:42 left to play. What followed for Houston, which will host the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, was a disjointed stretch that resulted in the Warriors reeling off a 15-2 run en route to a 106-95 win. Green failed to convert the three-point play, and the Rockets missed six consecutive shots to grease the skids to their demise, with frantic, hurried attempts at the rim their undoing. (FLM) Part of growth is inconsistency. The offensive explosion you saw against Brooklyn will not be a factor tonight. |

11-01-23 | Rangers +101 v. Diamondbacks | Top | 5-0 | Win | 101 | 9 h 3 m | Show |
The Texas Rangers are one win away from their first World Series title, and they will ask Nathan Eovaldi to finish off the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5 on Wednesday. Texas grabbed a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series with an 11-7 win in Game 4 on Tuesday, as leadoff hitter Marcus Semien contributed a three-run homer and a two-run triple. The Rangers took the 48,388 fans out of the game early with five-run innings in the second and third. The Diamondbacks scored six runs in the last two innings but still fell far short. Texas, which is a record 10-0 on the road in the postseason, will look to complete a perfect away run behind Eovaldi. The veteran right-hander is 4-0 with a 3.52 ERA over five postseason starts, with 36 strikeouts and five walks in 30 2/3 innings. Eovaldi allowed five runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings in Game 1, which Texas won 6-5 in 11 innings. He fanned eight and walked one. |

11-01-23 | Rangers v. Diamondbacks OVER 8.5 | Top | 5-0 | Loss | -115 | 9 h 1 m | Show |
The Texas Rangers are one win away from their first World Series title, and they will ask Nathan Eovaldi to finish off the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5 on Wednesday. |

11-01-23 | Pelicans v. Thunder -3.5 | Top | 110-106 | Loss | -110 | 23 h 43 m | Show |
The New Orleans Pelicans are no strangers to adversity. It's been a constant theme in recent years as Zion Williamson and others have missed significant playing time. The Pelicans hope the latest bit of misfortune will be a bump in the road, though it could stretch through Wednesday's road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. New Orleans star forward Brandon Ingram is listed as questionable for the game after being scratched from Monday's loss to Golden State about an hour before tip-off due to right knee soreness. The Pelicans did get some good news concerning Ingram's knee, though. |

The 364 points are the Clippers' second most through three games in franchise history (2019-20, 375).We know the history between these two clubs favors the Magic, but the Clippers are a better team and the number indicates oddsmakers feel the same.

10-31-23 | Rangers v. Diamondbacks -108 | Top | 11-7 | Loss | -108 | 8 h 52 m | Show |
Game 4 looks like a bullpen game for both teams. Left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-0) is set to make his third start and fifth appearance for the Rangers this postseason, with six innings pitched and four runs allowed on seven hits thus far. Heaney has a 6.00 earned run average and opponents are batting .292 against him this postseason. Heaney went 10-6 with a 4.15 ERA in the regular season and made 28 starts, with nine wins as a starter. The Diamondbacks counter with lefty Joe Mantiply, an All-Star in 2022 who made his first career World Series appearance in Game 1. He pitched a scoreless inning. Mantiply is 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA over eight career postseason appearances (all this season). He did not allow an earned run over his last six games of the regular season (8 1/3 innings) and had a 1.38 ERA over 10 games in September. |

10-30-23 | Mavs v. Grizzlies UNDER 229 | Top | 125-110 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 56 m | Show |
Luka Doncic will aim to continue his strong start to the 2023-24 season when he leads the Dallas Mavericks on the road on Monday for a matchup with a Memphis Grizzlies team seeking its first win. Doncic followed up his season-opening triple-double of 33 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over San Antonio with 49 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists Friday in a 125-120 defeat of the Brooklyn Nets. Fourteen of Doncic's points vs. the Nets came in the final 3:22, including four 3-pointers. Memphis is seeking its footing while Morant serves a 25-game suspension for detrimental conduct. The Grizzlies are winless through three games to open the season after dropping a 113-106 decision on Saturday at Washington. Each of Memphis' three losses to open the campaign have been by seven points or fewer -- 111-104 last Wednesday vs. New Orleans and 108-104 on Friday vs. reigning champion Denver -- but the Grizzlies dug a 25-point hole in Saturday's contest before their attempted rally fell short. |

10-30-23 | Blazers +7.5 v. Raptors | Top | 99-91 | Win | 100 | 11 h 50 m | Show |
The Toronto Raptors know that they must begin to find better scoring chances for Pascal Siakam starting Monday night against the visiting Portland Trail Blazers. Siakam scored only 11 points Saturday night in a 114-107 home loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the return of former Toronto coach Nick Nurse. The Raptors, who were playing the second of back-to-back games on Saturday, will be facing a team playing its second game in two nights. Portland opened a three-game road trip with a 126-98 loss to the 76ers on Sunday night. The Trail Blazers are winless in three games this season. Despite that, seven points is too many to give up with the Raptors |

The Anaheim Ducks will be looking to polish off a perfect four-game road trip Monday when they meet the Pittsburgh Penguins. It took overtime for the Ducks to win at Columbus and Boston, before Saturday's visit to Philadelphia. They made it 3-0-0 on the trip with a dominating performance in a 7-4 win over the Flyers. I don't expect the Ducks to explode for 7 goals in this one. |

10-30-23 | Seattle Kraken v. Lightning -150 | Top | 4-3 | Loss | -150 | 10 h 38 m | Show |
The Seattle Kraken get set for one final contest in Florida with a clear goal of finally beating the Tampa Bay Lightning. Winless in four tries against the Atlantic Division club and owning just two wins in nine games thus far, Seattle will try to add to the win column when it plays the Lightning on Monday night. It will have to forget what happened Saturday in Sunrise -- in fact, leaving that memory in South Florida would be a good start. Tied at 2 with the Florida Panthers in the waning minutes of regulation and possibly headed for overtime, Seattle goaltender Joey Daccord committed a game-changing error by going to retrieve a puck that appeared destined to travel behind his net. Instead, the puck caromed oddly off the stanchion and into the low slot, where Florida's Nick Cousins scooped in the game-winner with 5:52 left as his club beat Seattle for the second time in five career meetings. 10-29-23 | Blazers v. 76ers -9.5 | Top | 98-126 | Win | 100 | 10 h 27 m | Show |
The winless Portland Trail Blazers will continue their search for scoring in the absence of Anfernee Simons as they open a three-game trip, starting Sunday night against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Trail Blazers made the cross-country flight Saturday shackled with an 0-2 record, the first loss having been more painful than the second by virtue of Simons breaking his right thumb during a 123-111 setback against the Clippers in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Portland then immediately experienced the impact of losing its top returning scorer when the Trail Blazers put up just 97 points in their home opener, a 102-97 loss to the Orlando Magic on Friday. The Trail Blazers shot just 39.8 percent overall and went just 9 of 32 on 3-pointers. Simons is expected to miss four-to-six weeks. (Stats) |

10-29-23 | Eagles v. Commanders OVER 43.5 | Top | 38-31 | Win | 100 | 14 h 47 m | Show |
With Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts expected to play through a left knee injury, his teammates on the defensive side of the ball should be expected to ratchet up the pressure on Howell when the NFC East rivals meet Sunday at Washington. Philadelphia (6-1) has the second-most sacks in the NFL, and Howell is the most-sacked QB in the league. That combination could make it a long afternoon for the Commanders (3-4). In this situation last year at FedEx Field, the Eagles sacked Carson Wentz nine times, forced two fumbles, and recovered one of them. Washington's offensive line is arguably worse, Howell is not as experienced at picking up blitzes, and Philadelphia comes in with the league's top defense against the run. I don't think the knee will hinder Hurts. The game flies over. |

The Vikings' single-season record for 300-yard games is six, set by Warren Moon in 1994 and matched by Daunte Culpepper (2004), Brett Favre (2009) and Cousins (2021).Green Bay leads the league with 32 points scored in the opening offensive drive of second halves this season (Bills and Chiefs are second with 24). The Packers had 27 points in such drives all of last season.

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Merrill Kelly has a tall task on tap in Game 2 of the World Series against the Texas Rangers on Saturday in Arlington, Texas. Kelly (2-1, 2.65 ERA in the postseason) will have to subdue Corey Seager and Adolis Garcia in order to help the Diamondbacks gain a split of the first two road contests of the best-of-seven series. Seager tied Game 1 with a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Garcia went deep in the 11th to give the Rangers a 6-5 victory on Friday. (FLM) |

10-28-23 | 76ers v. Raptors +4 | Top | 114-107 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 55 m | Show |
The Toronto Raptors will face former coach Nick Nurse for the first time when the Philadelphia 76ers visit on Saturday night. The Raptors have split their first two games under new coach Darko Rajakovic. They lost 104-103 in overtime to the host Chicago Bulls on Friday despite a triple-double from Scottie Barnes, who had 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Chicago's Alex Caruso sank the game-winning 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left in OT. Toronto won its season opener at home on Wednesday, beating the Minnesota Timberwolves 97-94. The 76ers lost their first game under Nurse 118-117 to the host Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. Nurse coached the Raptors from 2018-19 until the end of last season, when he was fired after Toronto lost a play-in game against the Bulls following a 41-41 regular season. The 76ers hired him on June 1. Nurse guided the Raptors to their only NBA championship in 2019. |

10-28-23 | Grizzlies v. Wizards OVER 227 | Top | 106-113 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 37 m | Show |
The Washington Wizards might have caught a break in their home opener when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday. Memphis, which is coming off the second game of a back-to-back, trailed most of the game during its 108-104 home loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday. Six Grizzlies scored in double figures in the loss. Jaren Jackson Jr. led Memphis with 21 points and Derrick Rose scored 16 points off the bench, including a go-ahead jumper late in the fourth quarter. Memphis' advantage was short-lived, however, as the Grizzlies couldn't hold off the defending NBA champions and fell to 0-2. The Grizzlies are playing without All-Star guard Ja Morant, who is serving a 25-game suspension after he was caught on video multiple times with guns. Marcus Smart, starting at point guard in Morant's absence, scored 20 points on Friday. Desmond Bane, who opened the season with 31 points and hit 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, scored 15 points Friday and went just 1-of-10 from 3-point range. |

10-28-23 | Jets v. Canadiens +140 | Top | 3-4 | Win | 140 | 10 h 21 m | Show |
The Winnipeg Jets appear to have overcome their rough start. Meanwhile, the young Montreal Canadiens seem to be overachieving out of the gate. The visiting Jets will aim for a fourth consecutive victory on Saturday night against the pesky Canadiens, who have won three of their last four. Winnipeg allowed 19 goals while losing three of its first four games but has surrendered just five in winning three straight since that dismal beginning. Connor Hellebuyck stopped 35 shots while Mason Appleton and Nino Niederreiter each had a goal with an assist during the Jets' 4-1 victory at Detroit on Thursday. (FLM) |

10-28-23 | Islanders -148 v. Blue Jackets | Top | 2-0 | Win | 100 | 10 h 6 m | Show |
The New York Islanders won on Thursday night despite being whistled for nine penalties. The Columbus Blue Jackets weren't as fortunate after an eight-penalty evening. A pair of teams looking to spend less time on the penalty kill will play each other for the first time this season, when the Islanders visit the Blue Jackets in a battle of Metropolitan Division rivals on Saturday night. Both teams were off Friday following their eventful games Thursday, when the host Islanders edged the Ottawa Senators 3-2 and the visiting Blue Jackets suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens. Noah Dobson scored the game-winner for the Islanders 6:45 into the third period which was shortly after New York -- which committed all of its penalties in the first two periods, including seven in the second -- killed off a 5-on-3 and a 5-on-4 within the first two minutes of the final stanza. |

10-28-23 | Florida State v. Wake Forest OVER 52 | Top | 41-16 | Win | 100 | 6 h 50 m | Show |
No. 4 Florida State aims to keep its unbeaten streak rolling on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C., when it opposes Wake Forest. The Seminoles (7-0, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) are coming off a 38-20 home win over then-No. 16 Duke. It wasn't easy though, as Florida State trailed by double digits early in the second quarter. The Seminoles outscored the Blue Devils 21-0 in the fourth to close out the win. While Florida State is aiming for a spot in the College Football Playoff, Wake Forest (4-3, 1-3) is simply trying to go bowling for the eighth consecutive season in Dave Clawson's 10 years at the helm. The Demon Deacons are coming off their first conference victory of the season, a 21-17 nail-biter against visiting Pitt. Wake Forest scored the go-ahead touchdown -- a 15-yard pass from Santino Marucci to Cameron Hite -- with seven seconds left. The win against the Panthers was Marucci's first career start at quarterback. A year ago, he played quarterback, running back and safety. He completed 12 of 21 passes vs. Pitt for 151 yards and threw two picks, but when the game hung in the balance, he made the plays necessary for the Demon Deacons. (FLM) |

10-27-23 | Blues v. Canucks OVER 6 | Top | 0-5 | Loss | -110 | 11 h 37 m | Show |
After winning three times on a five-game road trip, the Vancouver Canucks believe their game is in a good place as they return home. They carry momentum into opening their three-game homestand, which begins Friday against the St. Louis Blues. The Canucks enter the matchup off back-to-back victories at Florida and Nashville. Pettersson has two goals and eight assists in six games. Brock Boeser is the team's top goal-scorer with six, while J.T. Miller (two goals, six assists) is also off to a strong start. Last season, the Canucks ranked dead last in the NHL in penalty killing at just 71.6 percent. This season they showed immediate improvement with two victories over the explosive Edmonton Oilers. Overall, the Canucks have killed 78.3 percent of their penalties this season, which ranks in the middle of the pack. Goaltender Thatcher Demko (2-2-0, 2.57 goals-against average) said the team has done a better job of denying seam passes from side to side. |

10-27-23 | Diamondbacks +1.5 v. Rangers | Top | 5-6 | Win | 100 | 7 h 17 m | Show |
Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi could etch his name in the record books on Friday when he takes the mound for Game 1 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Arlington, Texas. Eovaldi (4-0, 2.42 ERA) is aiming to become the first pitcher to win five starts in the playoffs. Randy Johnson (2001), Francisco Rodriguez (2002) and Stephen Strasburg (2019) have recorded five wins in a single postseason, but each of the three pocketed a victory in relief. Eovaldi, 33, allowed two runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings in a 9-2 victory over the Houston Astros in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday. The Texas native has struck out 28 batters against just four walks in 26 innings in the postseason. Although Eovaldi is making his first career start in a World Series, it's not his only appearance in the Fall Classic. He made three relief appearances with the Boston Red Sox in the 2018 World Series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the loser of the epic 18-inning Game 3 when he served up Max Muncy's walk-off homer. Eovaldi allowed two runs (one earned) and three hits in six-plus innings of relief in that game. |

10-27-23 | Knicks v. Hawks UNDER 229.5 | Top | 126-120 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 16 m | Show |
Different types of struggles from the field and similar issues closing out in the fourth quarter Wednesday night have the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks in the same position of seeking their first win Friday night, when the Hawks host the Knicks in a meeting of the longtime Eastern Conference rivals. Both teams were off Thursday after suffering narrow defeats Wednesday night, when the visiting Hawks lost to the Charlotte Hornets 116-110 and the host Knicks fell to the Boston Celtics 108-104. The Hawks led by as many as 11 points in the first half and trailed by as many as seven in the third quarter before squandering a narrow lead in the final six minutes of the fourth. The Hornets scored on 10 of their last 12 possessions, a span in which Atlanta was 4-of-11 from the field, including 1-of-7 from 3-point land. |

The reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets go on the road for the first time in the 2023-24 season Friday when they visit the Memphis Grizzlies. Denver began its defense of the first championship in franchise history with a 119-107 defeat of the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday. The 2020-21 and 2021-22 Most Valuable Player and last season's Finals MVP Nikola Jokic tipped off the campaign with a 29-point, 13-rebound, 11-assist triple-double. Jokic has averaged 19.6 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 26 career matchups with Memphis. Last season, Jokic scored no more than 18 points in any of Denver's three meetings with the Grizzlies but recorded triple-doubles in each of the Nuggets' two wins. On Tuesday, all five Denver starters scored in double figures and three notched at least 20 points. Jamal Murray shot 8-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range en route to 21, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope went 8-of-12 from the floor for 20 points. The Nuggets also got a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double from Michael Porter Jr. in the season opener. Prior to the game, the team received its 2022-23 championship rings. |

10-27-23 | Sharks v. Hurricanes OVER 6 | Top | 0-3 | Loss | -115 | 7 h 57 m | Show |
Having halted an early-season slide, the Carolina Hurricanes now set their sights on extending the misery of the San Jose Sharks. The Hurricanes can keep the visiting Sharks winless by beating them for the second time in 10 days Friday night. Things have hardly been easy for Carolina, which has split its first eight games, and needed to rally from a late 2-1 deficit for Thursday's 3-2 overtime victory over Seattle that snapped a three-game losing streak. Martin Necas' second goal of the night, and fourth this season, came with 9.7 seconds remaining in the extra session. Meanwhile, Carolina held its first opponent to fewer than three goals this season and did not yield an opponent power-play goal after giving up eight in the previous four games. The Hurricanes are 2-4 since opening with back-to-back victories. |

While the Phoenix Suns have a new look, they still are powered by the same engine, and Devin Booker showed on the NBA's opening night that he is ready to lead the charge again. Booker and the Suns head into a road matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday after the All-Star guard scored 32 points, including the go-ahead score just inside of five minutes remaining, of a 108-104 victory Tuesday over the Golden State Warriors. Kevin Durant scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jusef Nurkic had 14 points with 14 rebounds for the Suns, who finished fourth in the Western Conference last season and bowed out of the playoffs in the second round when they were overcome by the eventual champion Denver Nuggets. Durant was moved to the Suns at last season's February trade deadline but played in just eight regular-season games with his new squad and all 11 playoff games. Nurkic arrived this summer in a three-team deal. Grayson Allen also went to the Suns in that trade and started Tuesday but did not score in 21 minutes. |

10-26-23 | Bucs v. Bills OVER 43.5 | Top | 18-24 | Loss | -110 | 8 h 59 m | Show |
Facing a short week, and questions about Buffalo’s sluggish offense and injury-depleted defense, Bills coach Sean McDermott entrusted his players with believing they’ve been together long enough to know how to tackle adversity. The three-time defending AFC East champion Bills (4-3) are suddenly in turmoil following a rash of injuries sidelining three key defensive starters and not getting help from a slow-starting offense that’s combined for 10 points in the first half in losing two of its past three. The message was notably similar in Tampa Bay (3-3), where coach Todd Bowles dismissed questions about the Bills struggles by placing the emphasis on his Buccaneers to respond after dropping two straight and three of four. |

The Minnesota Wild will look to carry their offensive momentum into Thursday's road matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Wild rallied for five goals in the third period on their way to a 7-4 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Ryan Hartman recorded a five-point game -- a hat trick and two assists. The five points tied his career high, and the hat trick was the second of his career. Hartman's other three-goal performance occurred on Jan. 8, 2017, when he played for the Chicago Blackhawks. "We (Mats Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov) were able to find each other early," Hartman said. "We kind of talked about it as a line. We've been watching some shifts together, and too many times we were trying to get inside or were forcing it a little bit. You know, I think we've kind of been keeping it and waiting for our moment to strike as opposed to forcing it. |

10-26-23 | 76ers v. Bucks UNDER 227.5 | Top | 117-118 | Loss | -110 | 7 h 28 m | Show |
The buzz surrounding the Milwaukee Bucks circles around the player they added in the offseason, while the noise coming out of Philadelphia centers on the player who just returned to the 76ers after a 10-day absence. Seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard will make his Bucks debut on Thursday when they open the season against the visiting 76ers, who reportedly will be without disgruntled 10-time All-Star James Harden. Milwaukee acquired Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers on Sept. 27 as part of a three-team trade. Lillard, 33, averaged a franchise-record 32.2 points per game in 2022-23, the third-highest clip in the league. Named one of the NBA's 75 greatest players of all-time in 2021, Lillard won Rookie of the Year honors in 2012-13 and is Portland's career leader in points (19,376) and 3-point field goals (2,387). |

The Boston Bruins are 6-0-0 for only the second time in franchise history. 10-25-23 | Cavs v. Nets OVER 220.5 | Top | 114-113 | Win | 100 | 10 h 22 m | Show |
The Cleveland Cavaliers enjoyed their best season of the second post-LeBron James era and then flopped in the first round. The Brooklyn Nets retooled on the fly after trading two superstars and did not win a game in the playoffs. Coming off their first 50-win season without James on the roster since 1992-93, the Cavaliers will begin a season of high expectations on Wednesday night when they travel to New York to face the Nets, who are starting their first full season with Mikal Bridges as their featured performer. Cleveland won 51 games after improving to 44-38 in 2021-22, when its season ended with a play-in loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The Cavaliers made the leap into the top four of the East thanks to the addition of Donovan Mitchell, who averaged a career-high 28.3 points and shot a career-best 48.4 percent in 68 games. |

10-25-23 | Celtics v. Knicks +4 | Top | 108-104 | Push | 0 | 10 h 4 m | Show |
The New York Knicks mostly stood pat this summer following their most successful season in a decade. Meanwhile, after coming within one win of a second straight trip to the NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics made a series of splashy trades and signings. Neither team will have to wait long for the first referendum on their respective approaches, as host New York will face the Celtics on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams. The Knicks finished fifth in the Eastern Conference last season at 47-35 and beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs before falling to the eventual conference champion Miami Heat in a six-game semifinal series. Getting past the Cavaliers gave New York its first postseason series victory since the spring of 2013. The Knicks employed six coaches while missing the playoffs in the subsequent seven seasons before Tom Thibodeau arrived and steered New York to a 41-31 record and a first-round exit in the spring of 2021. |

10-24-23 | Suns v. Warriors -3 | Top | 108-104 | Loss | -110 | 10 h 8 m | Show |
Kevin Durant begins his 17th season by experiencing a first when the Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors tip off their 2023-24 campaigns at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Tuesday night. Immediately following the NBA opener between the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets, with the Nuggets to receive their 2023 championship rings, the TNT spotlight will shine on the Suns and Warriors, both of whom will be beginning a quest to dethrone the defending champions. Seeded fourth and sixth, respectively, in the Western playoffs last year, the Suns and Warriors saw their championship bids end in the conference semifinals, the Suns falling in six games to the Nuggets, the Warriors likewise losing four of six to the Lakers. The opening matchup also gives the 35-year-old Durant a chance to perform in front of the fans he thrilled for three seasons while leading Golden State to championships in 2017 and 2018. He eventually left the Warriors in a sign-and-trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets, and has made just one return to the San Francisco Bay Area, that coming in February 2021 while fans were not allowed to attend games at the Chase Center due to COVID-19 precautions. He has never faced the Warriors anywhere since joining the Suns in February in a blockbuster four-team deal. Durant won't see Golden State defensive ace Draymond Green on the floor. Green missed the entire preseason with a sprained his left ankle and was ruled out of the opener on Monday. |

10-24-23 | Diamondbacks v. Phillies -154 | Top | 4-2 | Loss | -154 | 8 h 2 m | Show |
Merrill Kelly understands the David vs. Goliath storyline permeating the National League Championship Series. But after knocking off two division champions earlier this month, Kelly and the 84-win Arizona Diamondbacks -- two years removed from a 110-loss season and with one player making more than $10 million this year -- will have their slingshot ready to go in their biggest game yet on Tuesday night. The Diamondbacks will look to continue their unlikely October run and the Phillies will look to return to the World Series when Arizona visits Philadelphia for Game 7 of the NLCS. Rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (0-0, 2.13 ERA this postseason) is slated to start for the Diamondbacks against left-hander Ranger Suarez (1-0, 0.64). The Diamondbacks forced the winner-take-all finale Monday night, when Tommy Pham and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit back-to-back homers to open the second inning and Kelly gave up one run over five frames in a 5-1 victory. Tuesday's winner will begin the World Series on Friday against the Texas Rangers, who clinched the American League pennant by rolling to an 11-4 win over the Houston Astros in Game 7 of the AL Championship Series on Monday night. The Rangers will have home-field advantage in the Fall Classic regardless of who they play |

10-24-23 | Lakers v. Nuggets -4.5 | Top | 107-119 | Win | 100 | 7 h 29 m | Show |
The Denver Nuggets spent the offseason celebrating while the Los Angeles Lakers were simmering. Denver is in unchartered territory as the reigning NBA champions after an impressive 16-4 run through the postseason last spring. One of the teams in the Nuggets' path was Los Angeles, whom they swept in the Western Conference finals. The Lakers don't have to wait for another shot at the Nuggets, but they will have to witness them raise their championship banner when the teams open the NBA season Tuesday night in Denver. The Nuggets had never beaten Los Angeles in the playoffs before last season, and while it was a sweep, the games were close. That didn't stop Denver from relishing the series win, and head coach Michael Malone lit the fuse in the immediate aftermath of the victory. |

The Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning will meet for the first time this season on Tuesday night at Tampa, Fla., and both are anxious to put the recent past behind them. The Lightning wasted a 3-1 third-period lead at home Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, one of their rivals in the Atlantic Division, in the second contest of Tampa Bay's five-game homestand. The game ended in a 4-3 overtime victory for the Leafs when John Tavares put away the Lightning much like he did in late April in the first round of the playoffs. |
