MLB Predictions & Handicapping Insight
Here’s a look at three favorites, three teams from the middle of the pack, and three long shots to win the 2020 World Series.
Updated November 2020 World Series Futures Betting Odds for 2020
Los Angeles Dodgers +400
A disappointing division series loss to the eventual world champions Nationals was a devastating blow for a team that had made back-to-back World Series appearances, and had its sights send on finally ending its championship drought.
The front office showed it’s not messing around, again taking on some high-salary players from the Boston Red Sox. Unlike the last time the team did that, acquiring Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, and Josh Beckett in a cost-saving move for Boston, this trade, in which Los Angeles added, most notably, Mookie Betts and David Price, figures to pay immediate dividends.
Price has shown over the last two seasons he still has something to offer, and should benefit from a move to the National League, while Mookie Betts is a megastar in the league who’s entering his prime.
New York Yankees +400
The Yankees have too much talent on their roster to not have made even an appearance in the World Series over the past two seasons. Their roster will look largely the same as it did ago, with one major addition, and that’s Gerrit Cole who becomes the ace of a rotation that’s better than many think, and backed by one of the deepest bullpens in baseball.
New York Mets +1500
The Mets may not feel like a team that belongs in the upper-echelon of teams when discussing World Series futures, but this is a team that’s been adding pieces for years now, and may finally have enough of them in place to make a serious run. Their starting rotation is deep, and that will no doubt be the strength of the club once again, but their lineup is going to be better than many believe it will.
Favorites – 2020 World Series Futures Betting Odds Pick: Yankees +400
Minnesota Twins +1800
The Twins quietly added some bats a year ago and became a force in the American League, winning the Central Division before an unceremonious ousting at the hands of the Yankees in their division series matchup. They added another big bat in Josh Donaldson this offseason, though many question marks surround their starting rotation beyond Jose Berrios.
Cincinnati Reds +2500
The Reds may be the most improved team in baseball from the start of last season to this point, improving both their starting rotation and lineup in big, meaningful ways. The NL Central is no cake walk, but the Reds have the pieces in place to be a competitor right down to the end.
Chicago Cubs +3000
The Cubs seem to be the forgotten team each year. The loss of Joe Maddon hurts, but David Ross was a catcher under Maddon and surely learned a lot from him. This is a very talented roster than will benefit from a full year of Yu Darvish pitching at his best. They may offer the best value on the board.
Middle Of The Pack – 2020 World Series Futures Betting Odds Pick: Cubs +3000
Chicago White Sox +3500
If the Reds aren’t the most-improved team, it may be the White Sox. Their starting rotation is night and day from what it looked like at the start of last year, and their lineup is going to be as potent as any in the AL.
Los Angeles Angels +3500
The Angels made a big splash with the signing of Anthony Rendon, showing they’re serious about becoming a contender while Mike Trout’s still in his prime. The addition of Rendon, coupled with an increased role for Shohei Ohtani and a decreased role for Albert Pujols will make the team more competitive this year.
San Diego Padres +6000
The Padres have been making big splashes on the open market in recent seasons but seem to continuously get overlooked. This year’s big add was Tommy Pham, who’ll keep a solid bat in the lineup while adding improved defense to the spacious outfield at Petco. They may still need some starting pitching help, but this is a team to keep a close eye on.
