Commanders vs. 49ers Gameday
The Washington Commanders travel to Santa Clara to face the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, October 19, 2026. Kickoff at Levi’s Stadium is scheduled for 8:15 PM ET on ESPN and ABC. This Week 6 matchup features an undefeated NFC West leader against a Washington team looking for its second victory.
Dan Quinn’s Commanders enter at 1-3-1 and have lost both road games. Washington has struggled to put together complete performances, particularly when opponents create pressure.
San Francisco is 5-0 under Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers have won all three home games.
San Francisco has been the better team, but Washington’s quarterback mobility presents a different defensive assignment.
Washington needs a cleaner performance after failing to finish its previous game. Offensive protection and defensive execution remain significant concerns.
The 49ers have established themselves among the NFC’s strongest teams. Their efficient offense and dependable defense have produced an unbeaten start, although injuries are testing the roster’s depth. Shanahan now faces the challenge of maintaining that production with fewer healthy contributors.
San Francisco has the clear advantage in consistency and home-field performance. Washington needs to protect the football and avoid giving the 49ers favorable field position.
The Commanders have little margin for another poor road performance.
Week 6, Washington Commanders vs. San Francisco 49ers, we’re all hoping a great game is in store.

49ers Stats
San Francisco has scored 154 points through five games, averaging nearly 31 per contest. The 49ers have generated 1,825 offensive yards, including 643 rushing yards. Their offense has produced 103 first downs.
San Francisco has converted 27 of 52 third-down opportunities, a success rate approaching 52%. That efficiency has allowed Shanahan to sustain possessions and control field position.
Christian McCaffrey remains a central part of the offense. His versatility gives the 49ers options as both a runner and receiver.
San Francisco’s ability to extend possessions has been one of its strongest offensive advantages.
Defensively, the 49ers have allowed 93 points through five games, averaging fewer than 19 per contest. Opponents have generated 1,486 offensive yards against them.
The 49ers have also limited opposing rushing attacks to 488 yards. Their defensive front has helped keep opponents in difficult down-and-distance situations.
Injuries are creating problems at receiver, with Deebo Samuel dealing with a hamstring injury and Mike Evans managing rib and Achilles issues. Nick Bosa is also dealing with a calf injury, while Dre Greenlaw will miss Monday’s game because of a suspension. Those personnel losses affect both offensive depth and defensive flexibility.
Commanders Stats
Washington has produced 1,637 total offensive yards through five games, averaging more than 327 per contest. The Commanders have generated 939 net passing yards and 698 rushing yards. Their ground production has provided a more dependable foundation than the passing attack.
Jacory Croskey-Merritt leads the running game with 239 yards. He missed Thursday’s practice because of a groin injury.
Terry McLaurin leads Washington’s receiving corps with 203 yards. The Commanders need more consistent production from their available receiving options.
Defensively, Washington has allowed 1,752 total yards, including 477 rushing yards. Opponents have generated 1,275 yards through the air.
The Commanders have recorded nine sacks and three interceptions. Their pass coverage has been vulnerable when pressure fails to reach opposing quarterbacks.
Marcus Mariota has been dealing with a knee injury, while Stefon Diggs and Percy Butler have hamstring issues. Laremy Tunsil and Leo Chenal remain on injured reserve. Washington’s depth will be tested against San Francisco’s physical personnel.
Commanders vs. 49ers QB Matchup
San Francisco QB Brock Purdy has thrown for 1,196 yards and 13 TD’s against two interceptions through five games. He has completed 98 of 142 passes, connecting at a 69% rate. Purdy has been particularly effective when Shanahan creates favorable matchups through formation and motion.
Purdy has shown good command of the offense and rarely forces unnecessary throws. His ability to deliver the football quickly helps San Francisco limit negative plays.
His efficiency has been central to the 49ers’ strong start. Maintaining that production with an unsettled receiving group presents another challenge.
Washington counters with Jayden Daniels, who has thrown for 459 yards and three TD’s without an interception in three appearances. He has completed 46 of 76 attempts. Daniels has also contributed 203 rushing yards and two TD’s.
Daniels returned against the Giants and produced 199 passing yards alongside 103 rushing yards. His mobility gives Washington an additional way to create offense when passing plays break down.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
The quarterback matchup features two different approaches. Purdy relies on timing and efficient distribution, while Daniels creates additional problems through his ability to escape the pocket.
San Francisco will try to contain Daniels and force him into conventional passing situations. Washington needs to disrupt Purdy’s rhythm without leaving receivers uncovered.
Protection will be critical for both quarterbacks. Washington must give Daniels enough time to identify coverage, while San Francisco needs to prevent pressure from disrupting its passing concepts. The offense that handles third down more effectively should have an advantage in controlling possession.
Washington Commanders vs. San Francisco 49ers bottom line: San Francisco has the more complete team and stronger offensive execution, while Washington needs disciplined protection and better defensive coverage to compete on the road.
Washington Commanders vs. San Francisco 49ers Football Betting Trends

- Plus, the Commanders have also seen the total go over in 8 of their last 9 regular season games overall.
- When playing as underdogs, Washington has covered the spread in 4 of their last 6 regular season games.
- San Francisco has been perfect straight-up as favorites, winning all 10 of their last regular season games in this situation.
- Additionally, the 49ers have covered the spread in 9 of their last 10 regular season games when favored.
- The 49ers have also seen the total go over in 5 of their last 6 regular season games as favorites.
Commanders 49ers Free Pick: Commanders +7.5
Here is my Commanders 49ers free pick: I’m taking Washington Commanders +7.5. San Francisco is 5-0, but the 49ers have won two of their last three games by six points or fewer. There’s a difference between winning football games and covering inflated numbers.
Washington has covered four of its last six games as an underdog. That trend carries more weight when the Commanders are catching more than a TD.
Daniels gives Washington a way to attack San Francisco without depending on conventional dropback passing. Designed runs, quick throws and controlled possessions can reduce the number of opportunities Purdy gets to build a lead.
I’m taking the extra half-point above a TD against a favorite dealing with significant personnel losses.
San Francisco’s receiving injuries are a legitimate concern for anyone laying this number. Shanahan can adjust his offense, but replacing established weapons isn’t automatic.
Washington’s biggest risk is protection. Daniels was sacked five times against the Giants, and another performance like that could wreck this bet.
There’s also the matter of Washington’s defense, which cannot spend another night giving up easy completions. The Commanders need to tackle, limit explosive plays and make San Francisco earn its scoring drives. That’s the difference between staying competitive and getting buried early.
I’m not calling for Washington to win outright. I see enough offensive flexibility to keep the Commanders inside the number.
My money goes on Washington +7.5. Make San Fran beat us by 8.
