Steelers Buccaneers Free Pick: Under 39.5
Here is my Steelers Buccaneers free pick: I’m betting Under 39.5. The number has already been driven down, so we’re not getting a bargain-basement gift from the sportsbooks. I still see enough offensive problems to play it.
Pittsburgh is missing multiple receivers, which limits how aggressively McCarthy can attack downfield. Rodgers can operate through his tight ends and backs, but that requires patience and sustained execution.
Those aren’t the ingredients for a quick scoring race.
My bet comes down to whether either offense can consistently finish drives, and I don’t trust either one.
Daniels has shown he can manage Tampa Bay’s offense, but managing a game and putting up 30 points are different assignments. Bowles has every reason to protect his young QB from unnecessary mistakes.
The danger is Pittsburgh’s defense creating short fields. One defensive TD or a couple of turnovers deep in Tampa territory could wreck an otherwise solid Under.
That’s the risk I’m accepting at this number.
I’d rather have Rodgers working through a reduced receiving group than watch Pittsburgh repeatedly attack with its full complement of weapons. Tampa Bay can also keep possessions alive on the ground without turning every drive into a touchdown.
Give me Steelers Buccaneers Under 39.5. I’ll take the clock moving, the FG attempts piling up and both coaches making the other offense earn every yard. Nobody gets bonus points for making this pretty.
