We are near the midway point of the NFL season and this matchup features the Steelers traveling to Arrowhead to face the Chiefs.
The Steelers come in after a surprising loss to the Jaguars, while Kansas City won their Sunday night matchup against Houston.
The last time the Steelers and the Chiefs matched up was in the playoffs in 2016 when the Steelers came out ahead 18-16.
The Steelers struggled all game against the Jaguars secondary, and the poor play started and ended with Ben Roethlisberger. He had the worst game of his career as he threw 5 interceptions on 33-55 passing. The 312 yards he threw were simply to get the Steelers back in the game, and not subject to strong play calling.
The Chiefs have a talented secondary as well as two of the best pass rushers in the league, and I expect Big Ben to struggle for the second straight game.
Le’Veon Bell had a solid game against the Jags, as he carried the ball 15 times for 47 yards and also hauled in 10 passes for 46 yards. Bell should get the ball at least 20 times in this game ad have over 100 total yards and a score.
With Big Ben throwing the Steelers into a hole it was surprising to see Antonio have such a big statistical game. He caught 10 passes for 157 yards and also hauled in a 49 yarder.
Brown is arguably the best receiver in the NFL and he should be able to win his matchups against the K.C. secondary and another 100 yard game will be expected.
The Steelers defense was gashed by Leonard Fournette and the Jags offensive line, as he carried the ball 28 times for 181 yards and two scores. Kareem Hunt provides a tough test and it will be surprising to see the defense step up and hold him to under 100 yards on the ground.
Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City has big wins to start the season, and can make a name for themselves as the team to beat in the AFC with a win over Pittsburgh.
Going into Houston against a very good defense, even without JJ Watt, who left the game with a leg injury, the Chiefs offense kept rolling.
Alex Smith was 29-37 for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns. He is a dark horse candidate for MVP and I expect him to put up big numbers against a shaky Steelers secondary.
Kareem Hunt continues to be one of the most impactful rookies to hit the league this decade, as he had 29 carries for 107 yards. He didn’t reach the end zone or do much in the passing game, but he is a threat to score anytime he touches the ball.
Expect him to get over 150 total yards and find the end zone twice in this game.
Travis Kelce was great against the Houston linebackers and he caught 8 passes for 98 yards. He is one of the best tight ends in the league and will have another 90+ yard receiving output.
The Chiefs secondary gave up 5 touchdown passes to DeShaun Watson and will face Big Ben this week so they will need to shore up their assignments to come out on top in this one.
