Week 6 of the NFL season will wrap up with a Monday night tilt between a pair of teams that have had very underwhelming starts to their seasons.
The Jets travel to the desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals in what is an early “must-win” for both teams.
New York Jets
A 1-4 start to the season isn’t necessarily a death sentence, but when you play in the same division as the New England Patriots, it definitely puts you in a big hole.
The Jets were, in the minds of some, a dark horse to take a run at the AFC East this year, as the Pats would be without Tom Brady for the first four weeks of the season.
Fast forward to week 6 and the Pats are 4-1 and the Jets are 1-4.
A loss this week to go to 1-5, in a division where the Pats reside and likely won’t lose five games all season, all but writes off the Jets’ hopes at a playoff berth.
Underwhelming on offence to say the least, the Jets are managing just 18.4 points per game (24th), and an Eric Decker injury isn’t helping the cause.
Defensively the Jets have been brutal except for their ability to stop the run. The Jets rank second in the NFL and are allowing just 68.4 yds/game on the ground.
Everywhere else is bad though, as the Jets are 31st in the league against the pass, and their 27.2 points against per game ranks 23rd.
Not the dark horse that the Jets were, but the Cards were expected to be a front-runner in the NFC West. That hasn’t happened as they currently sit third behind Seattle and Los Angeles, with a record of 2-3 after five weeks of play.
Cards QB Carson Palmer is expected to return to the lineup this week after missing week 5 with a concussion.
Larry Fitzgerald was great in Palmer’s absence, hauling in six passes from Drew Stanton for 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
David Johnson has been a bright spot in an otherwise slow start for the Cardinals and is averaging 91 yards per game on the ground and has found the endzone five times.
Johnson went off for 157 yards rushing and a pair of TDs against San Fran last week but will face a tougher test against a much more stout run defence this week.
Palmer returning and getting off the mark early is key in this one, especially against a very suspect pass defence.
If the QB can utilize his wealth of options at receiver (Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd, John Brown, and Johnson out of the backfield), the Cards should soar to victory.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: New York Jets +7.5
The Cards should win this one, but in a game where the run defence is tough, Johnson might find it hard to get it going.
Carson Palmer may take some time to get going, if he does at all, and I don’t think the Cards blow the Jets out.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Arizona 24 – New York 17
I’d look for the Cards to get up and try to pound Johnson into this tough run defence. The Jets’s secondary will get torched a few times for big plays and the Cards will make them count. Arizona wins it by a TD.
