Buccaneers vs. Cowboys Gameday
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington for a Week 5 NFC matchup.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video. Dallas enters 2-2, while Tampa Bay is still searching for its first victory at 0-4. The retractable roof should keep outside weather from becoming a major factor.
Todd Bowles’ Buccaneers are coming off a 17-14 home loss to Green Bay. Tampa Bay had opportunities to steal that game, but its offense couldn’t finish the comeback. Now the Bucs get a short week and a road trip to face one of the NFL’s most productive scoring attacks.
Tampa Bay needs its first win, while Dallas would prefer not to become the generous host.
Brian Schottenheimer’s Cowboys return home following a 34-30 victory over Houston. Dak Prescott connected with CeeDee Lamb for the winning TD in the final minute, helping Dallas get back to .500.
The Cowboys have enough offensive talent to challenge any defense, although their own defensive struggles have kept games unnecessarily interesting. Tampa Bay has the opposite problem, with a defense that has played better than its record and an offense still looking for consistency.
It’s Week 5, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys Odds & Last 5
Dallas opened as a -466 moneyline favorite, with Tampa Bay returning +360.
The Cowboys opened as 8.5-point favorites, while the Buccaneers were getting +8.5. That’s a substantial number for a divisional outsider visiting on a short week, particularly with Dallas still trying to establish some consistency.
Dallas leads the all-time regular-season series 14-6 and won the most recent meeting 26-24 in December 2024. Tampa Bay won 19-3 in September 2022, giving the Buccaneers at least one pleasant memory from a recent visit to Arlington.
All four Tampa Bay losses this season have come by one score, while Dallas has split its first four games. That makes the spread worth examining rather than blindly trusting the favorite.
Dallas still has to earn that cover, and Tampa Bay hasn’t been an easy team to put away.

Cowboys Stats
Dallas ranks second in the NFL with 30.5 points per game and seventh in passing offense at 258 yards per contest.
The rushing attack has been less productive, averaging 89.5 yards and ranking 25th. Javonte Williams has supplied much of the backfield production, with 231 rushing yards and six total TD’s through four games.
Defensively, the Cowboys rank near the bottom of the league in total yards allowed and have struggled against the run. Opponents are averaging more than 28 points per game.
That’s a rather generous arrangement for an offense working this hard to win football games.
CeeDee Lamb leads Dallas with 498 receiving yards, while George Pickens and Jake Ferguson provide additional options. The Cowboys have been especially productive in the red zone, converting 81% of their opportunities into TD’s.
Buccaneers Stats
Tampa Bay ranks 28th in total offense at 278 yards per game and is averaging only 19 points.
The Buccaneers have been considerably better defensively, ranking fourth in total yards allowed at 283 per contest. Their run defense sits third at 79 yards allowed, and they’ve held three consecutive opponents below 285 total yards.
Bucky Irving leads the rushing attack with 241 yards, while Emeka Egbuka, Chris Godwin and Cade Otton give Tampa Bay several receiving options.
The problem has been converting opportunities into points, with the Buccaneers ranking near the bottom of the league in red-zone TD percentage.
Tampa Bay’s defense keeps games competitive, but the offense hasn’t been returning the favor often enough.
The injury situation doesn’t help. Baker Mayfield is out with a thumb injury, while Antoine Winfield Jr., Benjamin Morrison and SirVocea Dennis have also been ruled out.
Kicker Chase McLaughlin returned to full practice participation, providing some better news for Bowles.
Buccaneers vs. Cowboys QB Matchup
Dak Prescott enters Thursday with 1,065 passing yards and eight TD’s through four games.
Prescott has directed one of the NFL’s most productive passing attacks, spreading the ball among several reliable targets. His experience identifying pressure should be important against Todd Bowles’ aggressive defensive schemes.
Jalon Daniels will make his second consecutive start for Tampa Bay with Mayfield unavailable. The undrafted rookie threw for 148 yards and one TD against Green Bay while adding 55 rushing yards.
He also threw two INT’s, giving the Buccaneers both encouraging flashes and some painful lessons in his debut.

Daniels’ mobility gives Tampa Bay another way to extend plays, particularly when protection breaks down. Dallas must account for his ability to escape the pocket rather than assuming every passing situation ends with a throw.
Prescott brings the experience advantage, while Daniels is still learning how quickly NFL defenses can change their looks. The contrast should be especially noticeable when either team faces third-and-long.
That’s an important matchup for anyone comparing the spread at their preferred sportsbooks. Dallas can challenge Daniels with coverage disguises, while Tampa Bay needs its pressure packages to keep Prescott from getting comfortable.
Neither defense can afford to give the opposing QB easy answers.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys bottom line: Dallas has the established QB and more explosive offense, but Tampa Bay’s disciplined defense gives the Cowboys a legitimate test at home.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Dallas Cowboys Football Betting Trends
- The Buccaneers have struggled against the spread in recent games, with a 0-3 record as underdogs in the 2026 regular season.

- The Buccaneers have gone 3-0 in over/under outcomes following a win in their last 3 regular season games.
- The Cowboys have been strong in over/under outcomes, achieving a 9-0-1 record in their last 10 regular season games.
- Additionally, Dallas has excelled at home with a perfect 5-0 over/under record in their last 5 regular season home games.
- The Cowboys have a 6-0-1 over/under record as favorites in their last 7 regular season games.
Buccaneers Cowboys Free Pick: Cowboys -8.5
Here is my Buccaneers Cowboys free pick: Cowboys -8.5. I’m comfortable laying the points with Dallas at home against a Tampa Bay offense still searching for answers.
The Cowboys have the weapons to build a lead, and their ability to finish drives with TD’s is important when covering a spread this size. Prescott doesn’t need a career night, but he does need to keep the offense moving and avoid giving Tampa Bay easy opportunities.
The Buccaneers have played respectable defense, so I’m not expecting Dallas to score at will. Still, asking a rookie QB to keep pace on the road is a tough assignment, especially if the Cowboys get ahead early.
Dallas has the offensive advantage, and I expect that difference to show up on the scoreboard.
My biggest concern is Tampa Bay hanging around long enough to sneak through the back door. We’ve all lost enough tickets that way, and I’m not interested in another donation.
But I like Dallas to control this game and create enough separation by the fourth quarter. Dallas doesn’t need to put on a clinic here, just take care of business against a banged-up team still looking for its first win.
I’ll take Prescott, the home crowd and an offense that actually knows how to finish a drive. My NFL betting approach has me laying Cowboys -8.5.
