The Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers will clash in Week 2 after both teams had dramatic comeback victories in Week 1.
The Steelers spoiled Buffalo’s home opener by coming back from a 10-0 halftime score to pull out a 23-16 victory. The Raiders then pulled out a dramatic overtime victory on Monday night with fans in the stands for the first time since moving to Las Vegas.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders sure did have an interesting start to the season. As of this writing, it is not clear if Jon Gruden’s blood pressure has stabilized following a rather ridiculous series of events in overtime of Week 1’s Monday nighter.
A big question for the Raiders this season is their offensive line. With Center Rodney Hudson gone and Richie Incognito unavailable for Week 1, it looked like it was going to be a rough night for Derek Carr. Rookie Alex Leatherwood’s false start on the goal line in overtime followed a rather poor night, giving up 2 sacks and 5 pressures.
Getting Incognito back will help but the O-line is definitely an area that has room for improvement.
Darren Waller turned a terrible start to Week 1 into a decent performance. Carr threw to him on 7 of his first 10 attempts but completed just one pass. By the end of the night, however, Waller had 10 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. On defence, Max Crosby and Carl Nassib look ready to make a difference this year.
Nassib punching the ball out from Lamar Jackson in overtime was certainly that.
Pittsburgh Steelers
A solid second half against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 helped put to rest some lingering concerns Steeler fans had with their offence heading into the season. Going into halftime down 10-0 likely didn’t alleviate any of those concerns but the 20 unanswered they scored in the second half probably did. The Bills have a top team this year so for the Steelers to walk into Buffalo for their home opener and put on a performance like they did is a good sign.
The Steelers offense this year is going to look a little different with rookie running back Najee Harris playing an important role. He ran for 45 yards on 16 attempts against Buffalo last week. 39-year-old Ben Roethlisberger is heading into his 18th season as the Steelers quarterback.
He completed 18 of 32 in Week 1 against Buffalo for 188 yards with 1 touchdown. It looks like the Steelers might need a little adjustment time on offence. Meanwhile, their defence looks ready to carry the load.
It has been 4 seasons since the Steelers won a playoff game, which is a considerable stretch for a franchise as successful as they have been. It’s the longest stretch they’ve gone without a playoff victory since the early 1990s.
NFL Betting Trends:

- Raiders are 5-1 SU in their last 6 road games.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers -5.5
As dramatic and fun as the Raiders Monday night victory in Week 1 was, this is a team that has some holes. Mike Tomlin is a coach that knows how to exploit those holes, so I’m not expecting Las Vegas to put up too much of a fight here.
This might be more of a defensive game (or lacklustre offensive game) so taking the under also seems like a smart move.
