The Houston Texans can clinch the AFC South win a win over the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 17, while the Jaguars are hoping to spoil the Texans’ celebration and split the season series.
Kick off is set for 1:00 PM ET as a pair of AFC South foes square off in Houston to finish their regular seasons.
Even though they’re only 5-10, the Jacksonville Jaguars have shown signs of promise this season, and this team is sure to be better next year as long as Blake Bortles is still the quarterback.
Bortles, who is only in his second year, has thrown for nearly 4,200 yards and has 35 touchdowns. He’s been a major reason why the Jaguars offense has drastically improved from last season, and he’s gotten help from a future star wide receiver and an exciting young running back.
The Jaguars rank 10th in both passing yards and points, but the defense hasn’t helped the offense at all. Jacksonville ranks 25th in total yards allowed and 31st in points allowed, and has been a major factor for Bortles having to throw the ball so many times.
The Jaguars gave up 31 points to the Texans when the two teams met in Week 6, and the defense needs to perform much better if the Jags want to play spoiler.
The Houston Texans were two minutes away from a road shutout against the Tennessee Titans in Week 16, and their commanding 34-6 win all but solidified the AFC South crown.
The Texans now control their own playoff destiny, and a win over Jacksonville gives them a division title after a horrendous start to the season.
Houston has gotten the job done with its defense, which was arguably the most under-performing defense during the first six weeks of the year.
But the Texans found the magic they were so desperately looking for, finishing the year 3rd in total yards allowed, 3rd in passing yards allowed, and 11th in points allowed.
On offense, the Texans found success with wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who currently has 1,432 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Houston has fared well even without starting quarterback Brian Hoyer and starting running back Arian Foster, and this team is clicking at the right time as it looks for another postseason berth with a win over the Jags on Sunday.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Jaguars are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- Jaguars are 1-15 SU in their last 16 road games.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Houston ATS
All Houston has to do in order to make the postseason is beat Jacksonville, and I can’t see the Texans laying off the gas pedal at all in this game. The Jaguars are also a terrible road team, having won just one of their last 16 games away from home.
