It seemed like the Texans ran themselves into a letdown game against the Jets after beating the Titans the week before. They were up 14-3 and let the Jets come all the way back to win without Houston getting any more points.
The Colts were up by 10 twice to the Bucs last week before letting them go on a 24-7 run to win by 7. It was either the 3rd or 4th time this season they blew a late lead in a winnable game.
Football Outsiders has the Colts ranked 8th up until this point and the Texans ranked 28th.
Indianapolis Colts
As mentioned above, the Colts should have had that last game against the Bucs but they blew it like they’ve done way too many times this season. This was a classic letdown spot though since they just beat the Bills 41-15 the previous week.
Indianapolis has had some issues lately, however. They struggled against the Jaguars and barely won the game 23-17 after having a comfortable lead earlier on. This team just has real trouble putting teams away.
The Indianapolis offense ranks 9th in DVOA so far this year, but the Houston defense is actually pretty good, ranking 8th in DVOA. The big difference between the two teams is that the Colts defense ranks 12th and the Texans offense is 32nd.
Houston Texans
That 32nd offensive DVOA rating is a bit misleading, however. Tyrod Taylor is a huge step up from Davis Mills, and Taylor only played a small portion of this season so far. This offense might even be just slightly below average if Tyrod didn’t get injured (but that’s obviously tough to determine).
I’m writing off the last Houston loss to the Jets as a choke job instead of them being the worse team. They should be determined to play this game much better and smarter because they know a good team is coming to town and they need to be perfect.
Currently, all of the bets and all of the money is on Indianapolis. This is going to be a huge public favorite so we will probably get more value waiting to bet on the underdog. Houston might reach double digits. Even if the line doesn’t move, the sportsbooks are telling you this is the right side.
NFL Betting Trends:

4* Free Week 13 NFL Betting Prediction: Houston Texans +9
We’re hoping the Texans will give a full effort at home after a home loss where they blew a big lead. The Colts did the same but they likely won’t give the Texans as much credit as they should. The number is just too big and Houston should keep it relatively close. We can’t forget this is a divisional game just because one team is one of the worst in the league.
