Both teams earned a loss in Week 4. The Broncos were short home favorites, and the Steelers were underdogs on the road. Neither team was really in the game, so it will be interesting to see who bounces back this week against each other.
The Broncos are ranked by Football Outsiders as 15th in the league through two weeks, while the Steelers are ranked 24th. PFF has a similar rating for overall team stats, but they have these two teams much closer in their power rankings, which are schedule adjusted.
The story with Denver is that they beat bad teams to get to 3-0 and lost by 20 to the Ravens last week. Is this team for real or just slightly above average? We’ll hopefully find out this week.
Teddy Bridgewater left with an injury last game after only 16 passing attempts. He ended with 1 TD and 65 yards. Drew Lock took over in his place and looked alright, going 12/21 with 113 yards and an interception.
The Broncos defense allowed Lamar Jackson to have a field day through the air with 316 yards on 37 attempts and a TD with a 96.2 passer rating. He only had 28 yards on the ground, however.
Through four games the regular season win total increased from 8.5 to 10.5. The Broncos have looked good so far this season but lost to their only good team last week.
The Broncos were in the top 5 in PFF team stats before Week 4, but just dropped to 10th. That’s still a long way above the Steelers, however.
Ben Roethlisberger looks bad. The Steelers gave it everything they had last week against the Packers but couldn’t really get the game to be competitive.
The PFF pass coverage grade for the Steelers is 2nd worst in the NFL, only better than the Lions. Pittsburgh is good as stopping the run, can’t run themselves, can’t pass, and can’t cover the pass. There aren’t many paths to success for them.
Through four games the regular season win total dropped from 8.5 to 6.5. The Steelers have not looked good so far this season, only beating the Bills in their first game which seems to be a fluke now.
Mike Tomlin is not good at covering the spread as a favorite, but great at covering as an underdog. Last game was the game for them, and since they couldn’t cover that spread of around +7 against the Packers, I don’t see them covering here in a worse spot.
NFL Betting Trends:

- Steelers are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
- Underdog is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
- The Under is 4-0 in DEN games this year.
- The Under is 4-0 in PIT games this year.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Denver Broncos +1.5
The Broncos are the bet in this matchup. As of Tuesday morning, almost all of the betting percentage and money is on Pittsburgh. Fading the public after a bad game is a winning trend that’s 2-0 so far this year. Also, if Teddy plays, he’s great at covering as an underdog.
