Sunday afternoon features a bevy of intriguing matchups, not the least of which is the Bengals and Broncos squaring off.
These teams should both make the post-season in the AFC and this is a good early test for a pair of teams that were not blessed with a soft start to their 2016-17 campaign.
Denver Broncos
I think it’s safe to say that this is the best defence of this generation.

The Broncos overcame a shell of Peyton Manning last year to win the Super Bowl and have started 2-0 this year with Trevor Siemien taking snaps.

This defence’s last five games have been against quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, Cam Newton (twice) and Andrew Luck…and they’ve won every single one of those games.
How many defences could go through a five game stretch against those guys and come out of it 5-0?
On offence, Siemien has not impressed, but CJ Anderson has done an admirable job at running back and the defence getting takeaways has afforded the Broncos’ offence some good field position or the D has just gone out and scored on their own.
The Broncos are up against a very complete Bengals team that is coming off a tough loss to AFC powerhouse Pittsburgh, and will be playing their home opener this week.
Cincinnati Bengals
As mentioned, the Bengals opened up their season with a pair of road games, knocking off a (probably underrated) Jets team, before getting beaten 24-16 by what is probably the team to beat in the AFC this year in the form of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cinci QB Andy Dalton leads the NFL in passing yards after two weeks, racking up 732 yards through the air in two games.
A.J. Green has been the number one target, hauling in 218 yards and a TD to this point.
Defensively, this team is sneaky tough and held a Jets offence that absolutely shredded the Bills to just 22 points, and they held a very explosive Steelers team to 24 points.

They did that to both teams while on the road as well.
Denver’s offence has not wowed as yet, and if this Cinci team can get out of the blocks quick, they have the defence to keep the Broncos in check and grind out the win.
NFL Betting Trends:
- Over is 20-6-1 in DEN last 27 games on fieldturf.
- CIN are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 3.
- Under is 8-2 in CIN last 10 vs. AFC.
- CIN are 13-4-2 ATS in their last 19 games overall.
4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Cinci -3.0
This is an even tilt, but I have to go with the home team here. Cinci generally plays very well at home (in the regular season, at least), and Denver’s offence isn’t that impressive.
NFL Free Score Prediction: Cincinnati 24 – Denver 20
Really, all this comes down to is can Cinci avoid turning the ball over against the Broncos D. If Denver doesn’t get favourable field position from their D or defensive scores I don’t think they can outscore the Bengals.
