Both teams looked good in their openers, although the Chargers won against the Football Team while the Cowboys were extremely close to beating the defending Super Bowl champs.
It will be interesting to see which type of game we see in this matchup. Dallas’ last game was a shootout and LA’s game was a defensive battle.
Last year, the Cowboys were the worst ATS team in the NFL, going 5-11 against the spread, and had a W/L record of 6-10. They were 2-6 SU and ATS on the road.
Dallas has a lot to be happy about after their loss to the Buccaneers. They were extremely close to winning the game, but given their soft division they must feel good about their chances of making the playoffs already, barring another Dak injury.
Dak Prescott went toe-to-toe with Brady and almost came out on top. If that is the level of play he brings each game, the Cowboys will be tough to beat.
According to Football Insiders’ DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average), the team ranked 23rd in the league in 2020. This is a measurement of successful plays considering both total yards and yards towards a first down, with extra “points” awarded for big plays.
There is an offensive and defensive component to the stat. The Cowboys were 24th in offense and 23rd in defense.
Los Angeles Chargers
Last year, the Chargers were 9-7 against the spread (ATS) and had a W/L record of 7-9. Most of the reason for the losing record was because they lost many close games and had terrible coaching decisions in most of those games.
Los Angeles beat a Washington team last game that many think are much improved from last year. Herbert looked good again, though there weren’t many big-time throws. The offensive line held up well against a solid Washington defensive front. All of these are encouraging signs.
The caveat is that Fitzpatrick was injured in the game and Heinicke had to jump in the game. He didn’t look bad but didn’t do quite enough to win the game. LA needed some turnover help as well to get the win.
In 2020, Los Angeles ranked 26th overall in DVOA (15th in offensive, 20th in defensive). The offense is expected to be much better and the defense looked good in Week 1. I expected them to improve a lot this year.
This game should tell us if the Chargers only looked good because they were playing a Washington team without their starting QB, or if they have a team worthy of making a run this year.

4* Free NFL Betting Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers -3
The Chargers are the bet in this matchup. There were no major issues with anything on LA’s side of the ball. Dallas shouldn’t be able to throw for an insane number of yards like they did against the Bucs last week. LA only gave up 100 yards in the air. They should win and cover at home.
