Pete Carroll developed the new core of the defense and got back to the running game. The Seahawks would go on to once again hit the ten win plateau and make the playoffs. If last year was a development year, this is the year Seattle will be a true contender and they have eyes on another potential Super Bowl run.
2019 Seattle Seahawks Predictions: Roster Changes
The Seahawks made their fair share of roster moves, but the key moves were who they brought back and who they signed for the future. Russell Wilson got a long term deal, Bobby Wagner got a long term deal; K.J. Wright, Mychal Kendricks, and D.J. Fluker all came back.
Some new faces that are joining the program are kicker Jason Myers. That’s an underrated move because two years ago Blair Walsh basically cost the Seahawks a playoff berth and last year Sebastian Janikowski got hurt late in the season and was basically unavailable in the playoff game.
The Seahawks also signed Mike Iupati to help bolster the offensive line, they signed Ezekial Anzah late to help generate a pass rush, but they saved their best for last.
Last week, the Seahawks traded for Jadeveon Clowney and that’s a real game changer and all of a sudden, the Seahawks have a good looking front seven that matches up with just about anybody in the NFL.
2019 Seattle Seahawks Predictions: Offense
Russell Wilson had such an efficient year in 2018 and he’ll look to replicate that this year. And it wouldn’t be a surprise if he improved upon last year’s numbers.
Wilson is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and with his offensive line actually giving him help he doesn’t have to run for his life on every single play.
Not only did the offensive line improve last year, but so did the running game. Chris Carson went over 1,000 yards last year and when he missed a couple of games Mike Davis and Rashaad Penny picked up the slack.
Davis is gone, but Penny will be able to carry more of the load if needed.
If there’s a weakness on this offense it’s the wide receivers. Doug Baldwin is gone and Tyler Lockett is basically the only veteran on this team. But, there is talent. D.K. Metcalf being the most intriguing prospect of all.
Metcalf is raw, but he has plenty of upside. Also, don’t sleep on Jaron Brown and tight end Will Dissly. Dissly was coming into his own last year, before his season was cut short in Arizona. If Dissly is healthy he can be a sneaky contributor.
2019 Seattle Seahawks Predictions: Defense
The Seahawks got a huge boost in trading for Clowney. Not only were they able to get Clowney, they got him for basically nothing. He gives the Seahawks a huge boost on the defensive line.
If there was a weakness on this defense, it’s the pass rush. And it still is, but Clowney definitely goes a long way in helping that much needed pass rush.
Up front, Al Woods and big Poona Ford are more than capable in handling the run game and once Jarran Reed comes back the front of the defensive line will only get better.
The Seahawks have the best linebacking group in the NFL. I’m talking not only talent wise, but depth wise. Wright-Wagner-Kendricks is their starting rotation, but the Seahawks have Ben Burr-Kirven, Cody Barton, and Shaquem Griffin waiting in the wings.
The secondary is green and they went through their growing pains last year, but they’ll be getting better. In particular, Tre Flowers and Shaquill Griffin. They had their fair share of struggles, but they had plenty of bright spots, as well.
Bradley McDougald is the straw the stirs the drink back there. When he’s out there healthy he kind of erases mistakes. Tedric Thompson is the starting free safety, but Marquise Blair is an intriguing prospect. He has no fear back there and he made his presence known in the preseason.

It’ll be an interesting development to see if he pushes his way into more and more playing time as the season progresses.
2019 Seattle Seahawks Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
As we talked about above, Seattle’s strength is going to be running the ball, Wilson not making any mistakes, and the defense forcing the offense to be one-dimensional.
Weakness wise, you’d have to say that pass rush is still a question mark, but Clowney clearly helps in that department. The other weakness is probably the wide receivers, but that isn’t that big of a deal.
2019 Seattle Seahawks Prediction (Final Record):
I’ve got Seattle doing big things this year. Surprisingly enough, the line hasn’t moved much since Seattle acquired Clowney, but either way, Seattle has plenty of value.
I’ve got them winning well over 8.5 wins. I hammered that and I expect to take that to the bank. I’ve got Seattle winning at least ten games and I think they have a strong shot at taking back the division.
At 3/1 that’s solid value and I think that they do it. The Rams have a target on their back and perhaps the league is figuring out Sean McVay’s offense. The Rams struggled down the stretch and in the Super Bowl they laid an egg.
The Seahawks schedule is difficult and the league did them no favors in giving them four morning slot games, but I like Seattle winning at least ten games and I’ve got them going 11-5 this year; winning the division and perhaps getting one of the top two seeds.
