Saturday, February 12th, finds the Sacramento Kings and Washington Wizards playing for the second and final time this season. In the initial meeting on December 15th, the Kings won 119-105.
Sacramento last played Wednesday defeating the Wolves 132-119 while the Wizards outlasted Brooklyn to win 113-112 on Thursday.
All-time the Kings have the advantage of winning 109 of 203 matches versus the Nets. Last season the teams played twice with each team winning on the road.
Sacramento Kings
If the first game with Domantas Sabonis was any indication the Kings may have landed on a star that can take them to the promised land — that land being the play-in tournament.
In his first game donning the Kings jersey, Sabonis played inspired basketball registering a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds (five offensive boards) plus five assists and a steal.
Harrison Barnes was the main benefactor of Sabonis as he dropped 30 points along with eight rebounds. De’Aaron Fox played with something I haven’t seen all season (a smile) posting 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
And with Haliburton gone, it affords Alvin Gentry the opportunity to play rookie Davion Mitchell more who jumped at the extra playing time by producing an impressive stat line of 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, a steal, and a block.
Trey Lyles (newly acquired), Josh Jackson (newly acquired), Donte DiVincenzo (newly acquired), and Mo Harkless (ankle) are all questionable for Saturday. Terence Davis (wrist) is out indefinitely.
Washington Wizards
Arguably the most surprising trade of the deadline occurred in Washington and it didn’t involve Bradley Beal. Nope – it was the deal to send Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans to Dallas in exchange for the unicorn Kristaps Porzingis.
Montrezl Harrell is also gone after a short run in the Nation’s Capital as is Aaron Holiday. The exit of Harrell wasn’t that surprising as he never looked happy with his new team so this affords both sides a fresh start.
The question is how healthy Porzingis is and whether he can stay on the court. Rumors suggested the Unicorn and Luka Doncic never meshed and while they tried to make it work clearly they never meshed.
Dallas didn’t add another big at the deadline but has ample front-court options. As for Zinger’s new team, the power forward position is overloaded now with Kyle Kuzma, Rui Hachimura, plus Anthony Gill and Isaiah Todd, and now Porzingis.
At center, Washington has Thomas Bryant and Daniel Gafford although they traded Vernon Carey Jr. but it’s unlikely Zinger would play in that position so perhaps the thinking is to play multiple bigs and not worry so much about specific positions.
Kristaps Porzingis (knee), Ish Smith (newly acquired), Vernan Carey Jr. (newly acquired) are all questionable for Saturday. Daniel Gafford (COVID) was downgraded to out. Bradley Beal (wrist) had season-ending surgery.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Washington is 2-14-1 ATS in their last 17 games.
- Sacramento is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Washington’s last 9 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Sacramento’s last 5 games.
Free Sacramento Kings vs. Washington Wizards NBA Prediction:
Both teams made dramatic changes to their rosters although the cornerstone of the Wizards (Beal) isn’t available and that should be the difference in this match if the Kings continue to play with the same aggression as they did in Sabonis’ debut.
