Spurs vs. Knicks Gameday
Wednesday serves up Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks. The Spurs got into the series, winning 115-111 in Game 3, meaning neither team has won on their home court yet.
Victor Wembanyama (32 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks) was aggressive early, but it was the 2-way play of Stephon Castle and some veteran leadership from De’Aaron Fox that won the match.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 32 points, but he needed 25 attempts to register those points instead of getting Karl-Anthony Towns more involved or opting for OG Anunoby (28 points on 9 of 13) who was on a heater.

San Antonio Spurs vs. New York Knicks Odds & Last 5
Head-to-head this season, the teams split their two-game series but played a third time in the midseason tournament, with the Knicks prevailing to clinch the Emirates Cup. That sets up the potential for the first double victory (Cup and Larry O’B) since the inception of the Emirates Cup.
Also of note, the last time the Knicks reached the Finals (1999), they faced the Spurs, who won the title beginning their Tim Duncan era, where they won five championships. In all, the Spurs won five titles with the last one coming in 2013-14 (Heat)
New York had a relatively easy road to the NBA Finals, playing clubs that were either inferior or were plagued by injury. To wit, they bested the Hawks in Round 1 by a 4-2 margin and haven’t lost since that series as they swept the 76ers and Cavaliers, both of whom needed seven games to reach the next round.
San Antonio had a tougher route to the Finals, particularly in the Conference Finals against the reigning champions. The Spurs bested the Trail Blazers in a gentleman’s sweep in Round 1, took out the Timberwolves and a hobbled Anthony Edwards 4-2 in Round 2, and needed all seven games to dispel the champs, who were missing two of their top three players.
New York is favored by two points, with an over/under of 216.5 points.

San Antonio Spurs vs. New York Knicks bottom line:
Put the brooms away; this just became a series. Considering the Spurs gave Game 2 away, it’s not unreasonable to assume they have calmed down and figured some things out.
For two games, they looked like deer in headlights, but it was the Knicks on Monday who seemed out of sync and adversely affected by the weight of the moment.

Spurs Knicks Free Pick: Spurs +2
Here is my Spurs Knicks free pick.
I don’t necessarily agree with Stephen A. Smith frequently, but I’m in total alignment with his comments that Brunson looked like he was playing for MVP instead of Larry O’B.
He’s yet to have a “typical” game, although he’s scoring. It just feels like he’s the one (not KAT as was often lamented throughout the season) that needs to learn how to sacrifice for the betterment of the team. KAT is the metronome to the best Knicks’ offense, so Mike Brown’s tweak should be getting him more involved.
Conversely, the Spurs didn’t seem phased at all in a must-win game and, in fact, left the court with a familiar swagger. One similar to how they left the court after Game 6 versus the Thunder.
The numbers confirm the arrival of both sqauds who have feasted this postseason. To wit, New York ranks first in offense (123.3), defense (103.5), and net rating (+19.8). In comparison, the Spurs rank third in postseason offense (115.4), second in defense (104.4), and also second in net rating (+11.0).
The best tweak Mitch Johnson made after Game 2 was taking Wemby off KAT in favor of Josh Hart so he can save his legs. Aiding that choice was Castle returning to form.
Even though Wembanyama was better in Game 4, he’s yet to have a standout performance, which feels like he’s due for. MSG has a habit of eliciting superstar performances, so I’m banking on him breaking out on Wednesday.
To that end, take the Spurs and the points.
P.S. I also like the over
