The NBA Finals change venues for Game 3 as the San Antonio Spurs travel to the Mecca to face the New York Knicks for the next two contests.
San Antonio led the last game for a good portion, but then looked like they hit a wall as the Knicks surged ahead. With the series slipping away, the Spurs rallied, but in clutch time, Wemby stumbled with a head-slapping turnover that followed a poorly executed shot and ended with a foul that led to the game-winner. He still led his team in scoring (29 points), but took over three quarters to seemingly get his gaze out of the headlights.
The Knicks have looked like the far more experienced squad and have now won 13 games in a row. They took Game 2 by a slim one-game margin (105-104) after Victor Wembanyama committed three guffaws in a row.
Karl-Anthony Towns is the odds-on favorite to win MVP, literally making Wemby look like he made Chet Holmgren look. KAT led the Knicks in Game 3, with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Jalen Brunson continues to struggle but is still amassing points (20) on copious field goal attempts (25).

Head-to-head this season, the teams split their two-game series but played a third time in the midseason tournament, with the Knicks prevailing to clinch the Emirates Cup. That sets up the potential for the first double victory (Cup and Larry O’B) since the inception of the Emirates Cup.
Also of note, the last time the Knicks reached the Finals (1999), they faced the Spurs, who won the title beginning their Tim Duncan era, where they won five championships. In all the Spurs won five titles with the last one coming in 2013-14 (Heat)

Wemby hasn’t looked like the same player who feasted in his three prior series, but he’ll need to channel that version if the Spurs want any shot of avoiding brooms!

Throughout the playoffs, I, like many, kept waiting for the inexperience and youth of the Spurs to raise its head. When they kept avoiding that typical characteristic, I fell for the hype.
But, there is a reason why this perception exists among pundits… because young teams rarely win the whole enchilada prior to suffering heartbreak. Wembanyama is learning that lesson, and while he’s bound to be the face of the league, he’s finally demonstrating that he’s human after all.
The numbers confirm the arrival of both sqauds who have feasted this postseason. To wit, New York ranks first in offense (123.3), defense (103.5), and net rating (+19.8). In comparison, the Spurs rank third in postseason offense (115.4), second in defense (104.4), and also second in net rating (+11.0).
That said, San Antonio has been in both games and played fairly well on the defensive end of the court. Their issue is offense, and Wemby, in particular, needs more shot opportunities, and the whole team needs to play with more aggression.
New York, meanwhile, continues its winning streak and returns home to the already hyped Knicks fanbase. The cheapest ticket price is over $11k (see Tweet of the Day), and the President (Donald Trump) is attending.
I’m feeling snakebitten when it comes to predicting this series, but even with the bite marks in visible existence, I’m rolling with the Spurs yet again.
