Friday, December 2nd finds the Los Angeles Lakers playing the Milwaukee Bucks for the first of two scheduled contests. LA will host on the second contest on February 9th.
Both teams played Wednesday with the Lakers defeating the Blazers 128-109 while the Bucks beat the Knicks 109-103.
Last season, the squads played twice with Milwaukee winning both contests. The Lakers hold the all-time record having bested the Bucks in 83 of their 122 matches.
Los Angeles Lakers
LA had been playing better of late but the opponents weren’t necessarily of the higher ilk in the league. To wit, their four in five wins occurred versus the Pistons and three contests versus the Spurs.
In between those wins, they played the Suns and Pacers losing to both. But it was HOW they lost to the Pacers that had to leave a bad taste in their mouths.
LA led by 17 points in the final frame but the young scrappy Pacers just kept plugging away and wore down the older Lakers seemingly growing in front of us as the game progressed right up to rookie Andrew Nembhard’s game-winner who was left wide open (he was either LeBron or Westbrook’s man to cover).
They got a bit of scheduling fortune next facing the Blazers on the second game of a back-to-back and without Damian Lillard.
But now things get serious as this match marks the start of a six-game Eastern road trip featuring five teams with winning records (Bucks, Wizards, Cavaliers, Raptors, 76ers) and one tanker (Pistons).
A challenge to be sure given they are 2-6 on the road with both wins occurring in San Antonio.
LA allows opponents to score an average of 114.3 points per game ranking 18th. Their opponents shoot 45.8% from the field (8th) and 34.0% from behind the arc (6th).
The Lakers score 113.1 points per game (14th) while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from the perimeter ranking 18th and 28th respectively.
Troy Brown Jr. (foot) is probable) while Dennis Schroder (personal) and Lonnie Walker IV (foot) are questionable.
Milwaukee Bucks
Forget the murmurs I mentioned last week, they are now being spoken aloud — Khris Middleton was moved to PROBABLE on the injury report expected to make his season debut in this game.
While the ‘heir apparent’ to LeBron (Giannis Antetokounmpo) has kept the Bucks performing well and firmly in second the timing couldn’t be better for Middleton to return.
Like the Lakers, Milwaukee has played a home-heavy schedule to start the season having only left Fiserv Forum seven times (4-3). That’s about to change as after hosting the Lakers they’ll play 10 of the next 13 on the road.
Middleton is a two-way player but it’s his offensive prowess Milwaukee misses most as they rank 16th in scoring averaging 112.3 points per game while shooting 45.6% from the field and 34.9% from the perimeter ranking 23rd and 17th respectively.
Defensively, the Bucks are holding their own with Brook Lopez in the mix for Defensive Player of the Year. They limit opponents to 107.4 per game which is the third-lowest in the league.
They possess the second-lowest opponent field goal percentage limiting foes to 44.6%. and new this year is their improved perimeter defense where they rank 13th holding foes to 35.6% from deep.
Serge Ibaka (illness), MarJon Beauchamp (illness), and Joe Ingles (knee) are out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Lakers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games.
- The Lakers are 3-11 SU in their last 14 games on the road.
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Milwaukee’s last 5 games.
- Milwaukee is 11-2 SU in their last 13 games at home.
Free Los Angeles Lakers vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
Ignoring how poorly the Lakers play on the road – – Middleton will ignite the arena whether he starts or comes off the bench. Not to mention the psychological edge and emotional boost it will give his teammates.
The only reason I considered backing off the healthy spread is they could get up by a lot early and shut down the core but I’m pushing all the chips in the middle and picking Milwaukee to win and cover.
