Proving how important experience is in critical games the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors arrive to the semi-finals after using their vets’ championship mettle to close out their first-round series.
LA routed the Grizzlies 125-85 to advance in six games while Steph Curry dropped a 50 piece and the four-time champs defied their seasonal road woes winning for the second time in Sacramento with a 120-100 Game 7 victory on Sunday.
Now both clubs vie for a chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals as LeBron James faces a familiar foe for the first time since the 2018 NBA Finals.
Another storyline is Andrew Wiggins was traded in his rookie season to the Wolves because LeBron wanted Kevin Love. Wiggins historically has produced some of his more standout performances versus James and along with Draymond Green will spend time guarding him.
ATS
At this time, the Lakers are 44-43-2 overall against the spread this season. Also, they are 20-23-1 ATS as the away team. Overall, the Warriors are 42-46-1 against the spread this season. Also, they are 28-15-1 ATS as the home team
Season Series
The Lakers won the season series 3-1 with victories on February 11th (109-103), 23rd (124-111), and March 5th (113-105) while the Warriors took the initial meeting on October 18th (123-109).
This is the seventh time the teams are meeting in the postseason with LA holding the 6-1 advantage although they haven’t faced each other since 1991.
Los Angeles Lakers
Getting to the semis wasn’t a cake walk but certainly facing a club without two of their best bigs and a superstar playing through an injury made the path far easier.
Anthony Davis was a beast defensively but vacillated offensively with nights where he disappeared. He’ll have to deal with Kevon Looney in this series and won’t be able to simply protect the rim given how much shooting the Warriors have.
LeBron also delivered some quality performances but noticeably was able to take defensive plays off versus Memphis and he won’t have that option against the Warriors since they boast lineups with three or four shooters who constantly move, and can hit shots at all three levels.
Stats
On the negative side, LA allows opponents to score an average of 116.6 points per game ranking 20th. Their opponents shoot 46.9% from the field and 34.4% from behind the arc ranking 10th and second respectively.
Another key point is the Lakers score 117.2 points per game which rank sixth-best while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from the perimeter ranking 10th and 25th respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- No injuries listed
Golden State Warriors
While Steph Curry is going to be a massive problem for the Warriors to guard if the Lakers elect to double-team him it’s opting to give one of Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson, or Jordan Poole wide-open shots.
Poole had a terrible series versus the Kings but has to be defended because he doesn’t ever lack confidence.
On Sunday, Steve Kerr elected to force the Kings to defend in the half-court and might do so again against LA which isn’t their forte or Kerr could force pace to tire out AD and LeBron.
Jarred Vanderbilt is a defensive specialist but isn’t likely to put up big scoring numbers which could limit his minutes. In contrast, Donte DiVincenzo, Gary Payton II, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody are options Kerr can tap and all are capable two-way players.
That means Rui Hachimura and Austin Reeves who were LA x-factors in the first round, will be defended more aggressively in this series.
Stats
Comparatively, Golden State averages 118.9 points per game ranking second overall while shooting 47.9% from the field and 38.5% from deep ranking 12th and second respectively.
Warriors opponents score 117.6 points ranking 21st with them shooting 47.1% from the field and 36.6% from deep ranking ninth and 18th respectively.
Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Andre Iguodala, SF (OUT til late April —wrist)
- Ryan Rollins, SG (OUT indefinitely—foot)
- Patrick Baldwin Jr. SF (doubtful—toe)

Free Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
LA got extra rest finishing their series early but it’s not like the Warriors suffered four hours flights like the Lakers. Rather they were busing 90 minutes to Sacramento.
With all due respect to LeBron, AD is the key for the Lakers in this series. He’ll have to be a two-way factor for them to win and get some help from Reaves, Hachimura, and Schroder. Plus D’Angelo Russell has to be an offensive factor while simultaneously not giving it all up on defense.
Golden State faced a historic offensive Kings team and the Lakers who have two superstars and quality players simply aren’t on the same level offensively.
The Dubs have the best player in the series (Curry) and won’t be facing a former coach who is ultra familiar with each individual’s weaknesses or their systems.
Perimeter shooting will be a factor in the series with the Lakers defending okay against the 23rd-ranked Grizzlies while the Warriors ranked second holding the Kings to 30.6% (a team that shot 36.9% in the regular season).
For the Lakers to win this series, I feel they have to win Game 1 (or get the split) but ultimately, that means AD has to be the best player on the court four times and I just can’t trust him doing that, especially with Steph Curry looking like he’s on a mission.
At best the Lakers push this to six games but I won’t be surprised if the Dubs complete a gentleman’s sweep.

I completely disagree with your analysis Tamberlyn! Lakers are a different team after they’ve acquired players via trade which the pieces now got together. Chemistry has been proven by this team on their push to make the playoffs and dismantled the Grizzlies easily. They rank amongst top 3 offense and defense for the past 3 months. Lebron and AD have found team mates they can trust around them which allows them to play their role. Gentleman’s sweep is very misleading as you mentioned above. The Warriors are getting lucky in the postseason but this team only won because they are familiar with Sacramento who the Lakers actually didn’t want to face. Golden State aren’t familiar with this rejuvenated Lakers offense and great defense. I see the Lakers pushing this to game 7 in which winner takes all. It’s the King’s last year to be healthy so I am willing to be that NBA wants Lebron to be in the NBA finals this year. I have the Lakers winning 108-101 game 1. Long live the King!!! Let’s go LA Lakers!! And MSG will be rocking – KNICKS!!
Today I took the KNICKS -4.5 for -150
