Cavaliers vs. 76ers Gameday
Cleveland travels to Philadelphia on October 22nd for an NBA matchup at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. ET, with both teams on a mission to make a deep playoff run this season.
Philly enters the match following a comeback win versus the New York Knicks on opening night, while this marks the first game of the season for the Cavaliers.
After one game the over reaction is the Sixers are the odds on favorites to come out of the East but the big question is whether Philly has enough depth on their bench to deal with the deeper clubs in the association.
Both clubs have designs on winning the East and moving toward winning a title, but the East is loaded this season, so nothing is guaranteed.
Philly revamped their squad with two massive upgrades of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James, while the Cavaliers made a minor tweak, adding Peyton Watson to address their wing concerns.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Philadelphia 76ers Odds & Previous Games
Cleveland finished last season with the fourth seed via a 52-30 record. They were tested throughout the playoffs but managed to reach the Conference Finals before falling to the Knicks.
The Cavs played just three games in the preseason, winning once, and looked completely uninvested during this phase of ramp-up.
The Sixers collected the seventh seed last season and pulled off the first-round upset of Boston prior to falling to the Pistons in the Conference semifinals. Philly used the preseason to help get this newly formatted starting lineup time to build chemistry, finishing with a 1-3 record.

Cavaliers Stats
Cleveland ranked sixth (118.3) on offense and 15th on defense (114.1). Additionally, the Cavs ranked ninth in net rating (+4.1) and ran the 13th quickest pace (100.70).
The East’s fourth-place Cavaliers averaged 28.5 assists (seventh) and 44.4 rebounds (11th). Cleveland scored 119.5 points per game while their opponents averaged 115.4 points.
A big question the Cavs will need to answer is whether they are primarily a regular season team. Although they reached the Conference Finals in 2026 they got lucky facing young squads (Raptors, Pistons) before getting easily dispensed of by the Knicks.
Team leaders* for the Cavs were Donovan Mitchell for points (27.9) and steals (1.5), James Harden for assists (7.7), while Evan Mobley was tops for rebounds (9.0) and blocks (1.7).
As a team, the Cavaliers shot 36.0% from the perimeter with six players shooting above the league average.

76ers Stats
Philly ranked 16th offensively (114.3), tied for 16th defensively (114.4), while producing the 18th-best net rating (-0.1), running a pace of 100.40, which ranked 15th overall.
The East’s seventh-place Sixers averaged 115.9 points per game, while their opponents averaged 116.1 points. In terms of dimes and boards, Philly averaged 24.6 (tied for 29th) and 43.6 (17th), respectively.
Team leaders* in key categories were Tyrese Maxey for scoring (28.3 points), assists (6.6), and steals (1.9), Andre Drummond for rebounds (8.4), and Adem Bona for blocks (1.2).
Perimeter shooting fluctuated for Philly, but they had five players who shot league-average or better, and the team shot 34.9%.

Cavaliers vs. 76ers Key Matchup
When the Cavaliers drafted Evan Mobley, it was anticipated he would become a generational building block. Entering his sixth season, there remain major questions about whether he can take another step and whether he is destined to play solely in a power forward role or if he’s versatile enough to play at forward and at center.
Ultimately, if the Cavaliers stumble out of the gate, his ascension (or lack thereof) will dictate next steps for the Cavs’ front office.

If Mobley can take another step and diminish concerns about playing center, they could trade Jarrett Allen as many teams are in need of a quality center. If he can’t, perhaps Mobley himself becomes the trade chip!
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Philadelphia 76ers bottom line: Another big test for the 76ers as they face Cleveland’s depth and size.
Against the Knicks, Nick Nurse predominantly had LeBron guarding the center and moved Embiid onto the fifth scoring option.
Will Nurse continue to utilize that strategy? More importantly, at 42, can LeBron play there for the majority of games and retain any semblance of freshness through an 82-game season?

Cavaliers 76ers Free Pick: 76ers -4.5
Here is my Cavaliers 76ers free pick: I’m playing Philadelphia to win their first home game by covering the -4.5 point spread.
In a direct comparison of prowess the Sixers simply have the more talented starting five players and that alone will give them enough of an edge to take this contest.
Donovan Mitchell and James Harden will fill up the stat sheet but won’t be able to contain Tyrese Maxey or Jaylen Brown, which should be the difference in this contest.
Factor in how solid LeBron looked in the fourth quarter, controlling the game, and Cleveland not having anyone who’ll be able to stop him (Mobley is supposed to be that guy – but he’s yet to prove it).
Take the Sixers to win and cover the spread.
