2027 NBA Championship Odds have San Antonio and Oklahoma City tied as +270 favorites, with defending champion New York and Philadelphia next at +900. Boston sits at +1300, while Houston (+3500) and Denver (+2500) offer longer prices worth examining before opening night.
The Spurs eliminated Oklahoma City in seven games last spring before losing the Finals to New York. Philadelphia, meanwhile, has assembled LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
That’s an impressive collection of talent.
Whether those stars become a championship team is another question entirely.
Senior Handicapper, CappersPicks.com
I’ve seen plenty of talented NBA teams fall apart when the playoffs expose one weakness nobody bothered discussing in October. Championship futures require more than picking the best roster. I want a team capable of winning four playoff rounds at odds that justify the risk.

Odds updated: October 19, 2026. Prices and availability can change.
At +270, San Antonio and Oklahoma City each need a championship probability above 27.03% to justify the price. Houston’s +3500 requires better than 2.78%. Those percentages represent break-even points, not my estimates of either team’s chances.
A great team can be a lousy bet at the wrong number. That’s where championship futures get interesting.
Recent NBA Champions and Finals Results
New York enters as defending champion after beating San Antonio 4-1 in the 2026 Finals. Oklahoma City, Boston and Denver also have recent championship experience.
- 2026: New York Knicks defeated San Antonio Spurs, 4-1
- 2025: Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Indiana Pacers, 4-3
- 2024: Boston Celtics defeated Dallas Mavericks, 4-1
- 2023: Denver Nuggets defeated Miami Heat, 4-1
- 2022: Golden State Warriors defeated Boston Celtics, 4-2
- 2021: Milwaukee Bucks defeated Phoenix Suns, 4-2
- 2020: Los Angeles Lakers defeated Miami Heat, 4-2
- 2019: Toronto Raptors defeated Golden State Warriors, 4-2
- 2018: Golden State Warriors defeated Cleveland Cavaliers, 4-0
- 2017: Golden State Warriors defeated Cleveland Cavaliers, 4-1
Past titles matter when the players responsible are still around. Denver retains Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon, while Boston’s roster has changed considerably since 2024.
2027 NBA Championship Odds: The Favorites
San Antonio Spurs +270 — Wembanyama Changes Everything
At the top of the 2027 NBA Championship Odds board, Victor Wembanyama makes San Antonio a nightmare around the basket. His rim protection lets the Spurs challenge perimeter shots without abandoning the paint, and his offense forces opponents into uncomfortable assignments.
De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper provide capable ballhandlers.
San Antonio also knows it can beat Oklahoma City in a seven-game series.
My concern is the frontcourt behind Wembanyama. Foul trouble against a physical opponent could expose that depth.
Razor’s call: San Antonio deserves favorite status, but +270 doesn’t compensate me enough for a season-long bet. Pass for now.
Oklahoma City Thunder +270 — A Championship Core With Questions
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren give Oklahoma City elite scoring, defense and playoff experience. The Thunder have already demonstrated they can finish a championship run. However, losing Luguentz Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins changes the rotation.
San Antonio also exposed Oklahoma City’s offense in last season’s conference finals.
Holmgren’s preseason quad injury adds another concern. I want to see how he handles physical opponents before committing money.
At +270, the Thunder offer little room for disappointment.
I’d wait for a better number.
New York Knicks +900 — Defending Champions With a Hole Inside
Jalen Brunson remains the engine of New York’s offense, supported by Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart. This group understands playoff pressure.
Mitchell Robinson’s departure leaves a defensive gap. Andre Drummond can rebound, but New York must establish whether its interior defense can withstand repeated attacks from the East’s strongest frontcourts.
The Knicks belong among the contenders at +900. Still, I want to see their new center rotation before betting on a repeat.
Philadelphia 76ers +900 — Talent Isn’t the Problem
LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey can punish almost any defense. VJ Edgecombe adds athleticism and another way to attack opponents.
The Sixers have nine new players, and their projected starting lineup appeared together only once during preseason.
Embiid’s injury history and LeBron’s age make continuity difficult to assume.
Even a healthy roster must settle its defensive assignments and late-game offensive hierarchy. Those problems don’t disappear because the names on the jerseys are impressive.
I won’t pay +900 until Philadelphia demonstrates it can function as a complete team.
Boston Celtics +1300 — The Eastern Price to Watch
Boston has Jayson Tatum returning from an Achilles injury, with Paul George, Derrick White and Mitchell Robinson helping shape its new rotation. The Celtics retain enough defensive talent to challenge Eastern opponents.
Tatum’s recovery is the biggest variable. Boston also needs consistent offense when its outside shots aren’t falling.
At +1300, I find the Celtics more interesting than Philadelphia at +900.
That doesn’t make Boston an automatic bet; Tatum’s workload needs to hold up first.
2027 NBA Championship Predictions: Four Serious Challengers
Houston Rockets +3500 — Razor’s Preferred Futures Bet
Houston’s offense needed steadier decision-making last season, especially late in close games. Fred VanVleet’s return and Marcus Smart’s arrival give the Rockets two experienced guards capable of addressing that weakness.
Kevin Durant provides the difficult-shot scoring every contender eventually needs. Alperen Sengun creates offense inside, Amen Thompson attacks the rim, and Steven Adams makes opponents earn rebounds.
VanVleet’s preseason ballhandling has been encouraging. However, exhibition basketball isn’t the same as protecting a two-point lead against Oklahoma City in May. Durant’s age and VanVleet’s recovery could still derail the plan.
That’s why I’m keeping the stake modest.
Houston doesn’t need the West’s best regular-season record to cash this ticket. It needs dependable guard play, Sengun to punish smaller lineups, and Durant to deliver when opponents take away the first option.
San Antonio’s size and Oklahoma City’s perimeter pressure remain serious obstacles.
At +3500, I believe Houston’s championship path has a better chance than the 2.78% break-even number suggests. That’s a handicapping judgment, not a guarantee.
Razor’s call: Houston +3500, modest stake. The upside is worth the risk at this price.
Denver Nuggets +2500 — Jokic Still Gives Them a Chance
Nikola Jokic can control a seven-game series better than almost anyone. With Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon alongside him, Denver has a proven offensive foundation.
DeMar DeRozan adds scoring, but the Nuggets must replace the contributions of Peyton Watson and Tim Hardaway Jr.
Their bench could struggle when Jokic rests, especially against deeper Western opponents.
Denver +2500 is worth considering because Jokic gives the Nuggets a legitimate championship route. I prefer Houston’s bigger return, however, and wouldn’t automatically bet both.
Cleveland Cavaliers +2200 — Strong Starters, Thin Margin
Donovan Mitchell and James Harden provide scoring and playmaking, while Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen protect the paint. Peyton Watson strengthens Cleveland’s perimeter defense.
The Cavaliers reached last season’s Eastern Conference Finals, but their bench remains a concern. Opponents will force someone besides Mitchell and Harden to create offense.
I’ll watch the rotation before deciding whether +2200 offers enough value.
Detroit Pistons +2500 — Cade Needs Another Creator
Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson give Detroit a formidable defensive foundation. The Pistons have earned respect among Eastern contenders.
Detroit still needs another reliable creator when opponents load up on Cunningham. That weakness gets harder to hide in a seven-game series.
Detroit has the talent to make another deep run, but +2500 doesn’t yet answer my question about secondary scoring.

Other 2027 NBA Championship Futures Contenders
Toronto Raptors +2500
Kawhi Leonard returns alongside Scottie Barnes and RJ Barrett. Toronto has the defensive talent to compete in the East, and Leonard adds a proven half-court scorer.
His availability determines the ceiling. I’m not paying +2500 without seeing how his body handles a regular workload.
Miami Heat +3000
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo give Miami a frightening defensive frontcourt. The Heat can attack the rim and punish teams that struggle to rebound.
Tyler Herro’s departure leaves questions about perimeter scoring and playmaking. Until Miami establishes dependable outside offense, I’ll pass.
Minnesota Timberwolves +2500
Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball should create plenty of offense. Ball’s passing gives Edwards more opportunities to attack before defenders get organized.
But losing Julius Randle and Naz Reid reduces Minnesota’s frontcourt flexibility. That’s a significant concern in a conference featuring Wembanyama and Jokic.
Indiana Pacers +3500
Tyrese Haliburton returns from an Achilles injury, with Pascal Siakam and Ivica Zubac providing frontcourt support. Indiana has a plausible playoff path if Haliburton regains his usual effectiveness.
The backcourt depth worries me. I’d rather evaluate his recovery over meaningful games than assume he’ll immediately return to peak form.
Los Angeles Lakers +4000
Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves can generate enough offense to win playoff games. Walker Kessler adds needed rim protection.
The perimeter defense remains vulnerable, though, and Kessler can’t erase every mistake. Los Angeles needs to show it can defend elite Western opponents before +4000 interests me.
2027 NBA Championship Longshots: Any Real Value?
Golden State (+6000) still has Stephen Curry, but the Warriors need more than one brilliant scorer to survive four playoff rounds. With health questions across the supporting cast, I’ll pass.
Atlanta (+7000) has an intriguing group led by Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels, with Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Lu Dort strengthening the defense. Shooting and rim protection remain questions.
Orlando (+8000) needs Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and Desmond Bane to generate more reliable outside offense. Portland (+8000) must work out how Ja Morant and Damian Lillard fit together without sacrificing too much defense.
Charlotte (+10000), Phoenix (+12000), Washington (+15000), Dallas (+18000) and Utah (+20000) need substantial improvement just to become credible playoff threats. None offers a championship path I can price confidently.
New Orleans (+40000), the Clippers (+50000), Chicago (+70000), Milwaukee (+70000), Brooklyn (+100000), Sacramento (+100000) and Memphis (+100000) are passes. Huge odds don’t fix a weak title case.
How NBA Championship Futures Bets Work
An outright championship future wins only if your team captures the NBA title.
Reaching the Finals, winning the conference or finishing with the best regular-season record isn’t enough.
The top six teams in each conference qualify directly for the playoffs. Teams finishing seventh through tenth enter the Play-In Tournament, which determines the final two playoff spots in each conference.
Once the 16-team bracket is established, every round is best-of-seven. Your future bet must win four series, which means at least 16 playoff victories. That structure makes matchup weaknesses especially important. A team can dominate the regular season yet struggle against a particular opponent capable of attacking the same weakness for seven games.
2027 NBA Championship Futures Payouts
Positive American odds show the profit from a winning $100 bet. Total return includes that profit plus your original stake.
These hypothetical $100 bets use the October 19 MyBookie Sportsbook odds prices:
| Team | Odds | Profit | Total Return | Break-Even |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| San Antonio | +270 | $270 | $370 | 27.03% |
| New York | +900 | $900 | $1,000 | 10.00% |
| Boston | +1300 | $1,300 | $1,400 | 7.14% |
| Denver | +2500 | $2,500 | $2,600 | 3.85% |
| Houston | +3500 | $3,500 | $3,600 | 2.78% |
| Atlanta | +7000 | $7,000 | $7,100 | 1.41% |
To calculate implied probability for positive odds, divide 100 by the odds plus 100, then multiply by 100. Houston at +3500 works out to approximately 2.78%.
Sportsbook margins mean the combined implied probabilities across all selections generally exceed 100%. A winning $100 Houston bet returns $3,600, but a losing ticket returns nothing. The payout looks attractive.
That alone doesn’t establish value.
When Should You Bet NBA Championship Futures?
The 2027 NBA Championship Odds can move sharply when a new roster exceeds expectations or struggles. Philadelphia is a good example: its +900 could shorten if the stars mesh quickly, or drift if injuries and defensive problems appear. Neither movement guarantees a better bet.
A longer number helps only when the team’s championship outlook hasn’t deteriorated enough to justify the change.

Even a modest difference in the number can have a meaningful impact on your return.
Futures money may be tied up until June. Cash-out isn’t guaranteed, and settlement rules vary by sportsbook.
Five Questions Before Betting NBA Championship Futures
Before betting the 2027 NBA Championship Odds, I want five questions answered. A tempting price means nothing if the roster can’t survive four playoff rounds or the sportsbook has already priced in its championship potential.
- Am I getting the best available odds?
Compare sportsbooks before betting. A $100 ticket at +3000 earns $500 more profit than at +2500. Don’t give that money away. - Can this roster survive an 82-game season and four playoff rounds?
Star power gets headlines; depth wins games. Check the bench, frontcourt size, injury history and dependable scoring options when playoff defenses tighten. - Will the offseason additions actually fit together?
Philadelphia added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown, while Miami must integrate Giannis Antetokounmpo. Chemistry and spacing matter. I’m not paying championship prices for talent that only works on paper. - Am I buying value or chasing preseason hype?
Compare current odds with earlier prices. If +3500 becomes +2000, the value may be gone. A shorter closing number doesn’t guarantee profit. - How much of my bankroll can I afford to commit?
NBA futures can tie up money until June, and cash-out isn’t guaranteed. Keep exposure modest and enough bankroll available for regular-season bets.

Razor’s Final 2027 NBA Championship Predictions & Best Bets
San Antonio and Oklahoma City deserve to lead the championship odds. Both have the talent to win in June, but +270 leaves little room for the unexpected. New York offers proven continuity, while Boston could become a better Eastern option if Tatum returns to full strength.
Houston +3500 gets my preseason money. Denver +2500 stays on the watchlist; Jokic can carry a contender, but I won’t force a second futures bet. For additional analysis and daily selections, meet our CappersPicks handicappers.
My preseason choice: Houston Rockets +3500.
“
RAZOR RAY’S TAKE: Give me a team with a real path and a number worth taking. Houston at +3500 qualifies. The favorites can have the headlines.
