Here’s why I’m backing the hometown favorites in my Bulls Raptors pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Bulls vs. Raptors Gameday
Chicago travels to Toronto on October 21st for an NBA matchup at the Scotiabank Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. ET, with each team looking to improve upon last season’s final placement.
Chicago has made sweeping changes, electing to revamp their roster with a focus on youth, while the Raptors revisited recent success by bringing back superstar Kawhi Leonard.
These contests between the Bulls and Raptors tend to be highly competitive regardless of where the teams are in the overall mix, but Toronto will be seeking to send an early statement.
Rookie Caleb Wilson will seek to make his mark this season and prove he’s worthy of the RoY award. Chicago also added Norman Powell to add scoring and veteran leadership.
Toronto’s big offseason move was returning Leonard to the fold, but they also added rookie Allen Graves, who has many of the wing qualities they typically draft for.

Chicago Bulls vs. Toronto Raptors Odds & Previous Games
Once again, the Bulls floundered in season, finishing 12th in the East with a 31-51 record. For the past few years, Chicago’s head office has purged the roster of its top veteran talent, sending out DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, and Nikola Vucevic.
Toronto fought to gain the fifth seed in the East last season with a 46-36 record. They went on to impress by pushing the Cleveland Cavaliers to seven games despite missing Immanuel Quickley for the entire run and Brandon Ingram at the end of the series. They’ll look to improve upon their placement this season.

The East’s 12th-place Bulls averaged 28.8 assists (fourth) and 45.1 rebounds (ninth). Chicago scored 116.0 points per game while their opponents averaged 120.06 points.
Pace was a key attribute of the Bulls with point guard Josh Giddey pushing the ball in transition while running the league’s fourth-fastest pace.
Team leaders* were Josh Giddey for points (17.9), assists (8.9), and rebounding (8.6), Jaden Ivey for steals (2.0), and Matas Buzelis for blocks (1.5).

Bulls vs. Raptors Key Matchup
On paper, the advantage leans toward the Raptors’ length and defensive prowess; however, the young Bulls won’t just roll over. Especially with it being the beginning of the season.

Look for Giddey to try to expose Quickley, while Jamal Shead will get some extended time on the Bulls’ PG.
Who guards the superstar wings is the greatest problem for the Bulls. Matas Buzelis is likely to draw one of the assignments, but finding a way to slow both Leonard and Scottie Barnes will be an issue.
Chicago Bulls vs. Toronto Raptors bottom line: For as much as pace will be a factor on both sides, defense will rue the day. Chicago needs to be more dialed in on that end of the floor where they finished ranked 23rd in 2025-26, whereas the Raptors, who were fifth, will look to improve upon that placement.

Bulls Raptors Free Pick: Raptors -8.5
Here is my Bulls Raptors free pick: I’m playing Toronto to win the -8.5 spread with a moneyline of -345 and a total of 236.5.
Toronto’s size is going to be an issue for the Bulls, who’ll have to face the trio of Leonard, Barnes, and impressive sophomore Collin Murray-Boyles.
One word – TURNOVERS… Last season the Raptors ranked fourth overall for points scored off turnovers (20.0 ppg) while Chicago ranked 21st for opponent points scored off miscues (18.5). Toronto should be better with the addition of Leonard so it spells trouble for Chicago.
The other key improvement will come when the Raptors play in the half-court with a bona fide scorer in Leonard, who is one of the league’s best at scoring in the half-court, particularly to close out quarters and in clutch time.

Bobby Webster and the Raptors front office were calling the Clippers for YEARS regarding a Kawhi Leonard trade.
Once the Clippers landed the #5 pick in the 2026 Draft, that’s when they decided to go in a different direction (rebuild), and “very quietly” made a call to Bobby.
“I always tell people, you keep tabs on the top players, the best players in the league, their status, and you’re sort of always checking in on them.”
“Kawhi was someone we ALWAYS had on our list.” 👀
