2024 Vosburgh Stakes Handicapping
With ongoing renovations at Belmont Park through 2024-25, once again the New York Racing Association is hosting the Belmont fall race meet at Aqueduct, under the moniker ‘Belmont at the Big A’.
The meet includes multiple graded-stakes races with four of those slated for Saturday, including the (G3) Vosburgh. Open to horses age three and older, the Vosburgh is run at seven furlongs on the Aqueduct dirt track. In addition to the purse money, the race offers the winner a fees-paid entry into the (G1) Breeder’s Cup Dirt Sprint, to be run November 2 at Del Mar.
The 2024 Vosburgh has drawn an evenly matched field of seven.

2024 Vosburgh Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Comedy Town Race Odds: 5-2
Although Comedy Town has spent most of his career at Gulfstream Park running in optional claiming and allowance company, a pair of back-to-back wins in lower stakes have convinced the connections to take a shot at grabbing a Breeders’ Cup start.
He’s also raced primarily on turf and synthetic surfaces, but is a perfect 3-for-3 since being moved to dirt. He’s been very good lately, but takes a big step up in class here.
2024 Vosburgh Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Mufasa Race Odds: 3-1
After winning eight consecutive races to start his career in his native Chile, Mufasa made his US debut in the allowance ranks at Churchill, finishing sixth but just 2 1/2 lengths back of the winner.
He improved on that effort next out at Colonial Downs where he scored a comfortable 3 3/4 length win at this seven furlongs distance while improving his Equibase speed rating by 17 points. Like Comedy Town, he’s stepping up to try graded-stakes racing for the first time.
Scotland Race Odds: 7-2
After a win in the 1 1/8 mile Curlin Stakes last July, the connections thought enough of Scotland to try him at the Grade 1 level, but that didn’t work out as he was a non-factor in both the 1 1/4 mile Travers Stakes and 1 1/8 mile (G1) Pennsylvania Derby.
After going on the shelf for seven months he returned as a sprinter this year and has found success at the higher allowance levels, hitting the board three of four races, including a win last out going seven furlongs at Saratoga.
Dean Delivers Race Odds: 4-1
A change in trainers last spring seems to have done wonders for Dean Delivers, as he’s reeled off four straight wins since moving barns, all at the lower stakes level in races at Monmouth Park, Laurel and Delaware.
Not only that, but he hit triple-digit speed figures in all four, something he hadn’t done in his previous four starts going back to October of 2023.

While there’s no huge value play available here, five of the seven entrees – including Baby Yoda (9-2) – will each take enough backing to spread the money around and offer fair value on the winner.
With showers expected Saturday in New York, track conditions will likely play a factor in the race. Both Comedy Town and Dean Delivers have shown the ability to win on an off track, with the former a perfect 2-for-2 on muddy and sloppy tracks, while the later won by eight lengths the last time he ran on a sloppy track.
That will be my exacta play, with Dean Delivers the bet to get the win.
