2020 Jaipur Stakes Handicapping
The lead-in to the 2020 Belmont Stakes, the (G1) Jaipur Stakes is a six-furlong sprint on the Belmont Park turf course for horses aged three and older. The race has attracted a field of seven males and one female and is loaded with multiple stakes-winning runners and offers lots of betting value.

2020 Jaipur Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Pure Sensation Race Odds: 5-2
Nine-year-old Florida bred Pure Sensation has won 14 of 36 lifetime starts, has 26 in-the-money finishes and is just a couple thousand dollars short of $2 million in career earnings. This will be his first start of 2020, and last out ran fifth in the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint as the favourite.
Prior to that he won the (G3) Turf Monster Stakes at Parx Racing, one of three wins in 2019. This will be his fourth start in the Jaipur, having won the race in 2016.
He’s trained by Christophe Clement, while Irad Ortiz Jr. gets the call to ride.
2020 Jaipur Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Olexsandra Race Odds: 3-1
The lone mare in the field making her second lifetime start – and looking for her second win – against males, Olexsandra is a rare Australian-bred (although her sire was 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom) racing in North America. In her lone start so far in 2020 she ran second in the (G2) Monrovia Stakes at Santa Anita, just a half-length back of highly regarded Jolie Olimpica.
She closed out 2019 with a win in the (G3) Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stakes at Keeneland, and her 2019 record includes a pair of wins in the Belmont turf.
She’s trained by Neil Drysdale, and Joel Rosario is the jockey.
2020 Jaipur Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Texas Wedge Race Odds: 9-2
In the money in 11 of 15 lifetime starts, Texas Wedge has won two-of-three so far on 2020, including an impressive performance in the (G2) Joe Hernandez Stakes on New Year’s Day, when he ran into traffic trouble late and was able to rally for a 3/4 length win.
Last out he was fourth in the (G3) Daytona Stakes at Santa Anita, but just a length back of the winner.
Peter Miller is the trainer, Javier Castellano will ride.
2020 Jaipur Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: White Flag Race Odds: 14-1
Winless in three starts in 2019, White Flag makes his first start of 2020 off a nine-month layoff and seeking his first graded stakes victory. While he lacks the win record of some others in here, he found himself caught up in some very fast races recently, with the winners in three of his last four hitting the wire less than a second off the track record.
The second of two Christophe Clement trainees in the field, he’ll be ridden by Junior Alvarado.

Although she’s going up against males, Olexsandra can’t be discounted. As noted above she was just a half-length back in the Monrovia Stakes to Jolie Olimpica, and that’s significant because earlier this year that one set the track record for 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Santa Anita, and the finishing time in the Monrovia was just a tenth of a second slower.
I’ll play her for the win, although I think somewhere on Belmont Stakes Day there will be a big upset, so I’ll box her with White Flag in the exacta.
