2020 Fourstardave Handicap Handicapping
An excellent betting race goes on the turf at Saratoga Race Course Saturday with the running of the (G1) Fourstardave Handicap.
Open to horses aged three and up, the race has drawn a solid field of international runners and a slew of multiple graded-stakes winners. A tough handicapping challenge, the race is wide open with several strong contenders and should offer lots of betting value.
Odds listed here are provided by the Saratoga track handicapper.
2020 Fourstardave Handicap Free Pick & Handicapping: Raging Bull Race Odds: 5-2
Second in this race last year, the French-bred Raging Bull has raced exclusively in North America and hit the ground running in 2018, winning five of his first seven starts. Included in that number were three graded-stakes wins, including the (G1) Hollywood Derby.
A very close third last out in the (G1) Maker’s Mark Mile, he opened his 2020 campaign with a 2 1/4 length win in the (G1) Shoemaker Mile at Santa Anita.
Trained by Chad Brown, Joel Rosario will get the ride.
2020 Fourstardave Handicap Free Pick & Handicapping: Uni Race Odds: 3-1
Finishing just one spot back of Raging Bull in the 2019 race, Uni followed up on that effort with a pair of Grade 1 wins, including winning the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Mile, where she chased a fast pace and came from way back in the stretch drive.
She opened the 2020 season with a well-beaten third-place run in the (G1) Just A Game Stakes, failing to hit a triple-digit Equibase speed figure for the first time in 13 starts, going all the way back to 2017.
Another of Chad Brown’s four entries, she’ll be ridden by Jose Ortiz.
2020 Fourstardave Handicap Free Pick & Handicapping: Without Parole Odds: 4-1
A UK-bred like Uni, Without Parole has been battling at the highest levels over the past couple seasons, but has had trouble getting wins.
Third in the Breeders’ Cup Mile last year, he is a former Group 1 level winner in his native soil, taking the St. James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot back in 2018. He’s winless in nine starts since then, however, with all of those races coming on North American turf courses.
The third runner in Chad Brown’s loaded hand, the jockey is Irad Ortiz Jr. .
2020 Fourstardave Handicap Free Pick & Handicapping: Got Stormy Odds: 8-1
The winner of the race last year, Got Stormy is unbeaten on the Saratoga turf, with two wins in two starts. She was also the runner-up last year to Uni in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.
She’s struggled a bit lately, finishing out of the top 3 in three of her last four races, although she did grab the second-place money three starts back in the (G1) Frank Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita.
Trained by Mark Casse, Tyler Gaffalione gets the call to ride.
Here’s my 2020 Fourstardave Handicap Free Pick.
You can expect the odds to be moving around quite a bit as the race gets close to post time, and it’s one of those where you will want to be watching where the money goes and bet accordingly. I’d be happy to take Raging Bull for the win at his morning line odds of 5-2.
There’s something to be said for horses returning to races they have previously won, and with that in mind I’ll box Got Stormy in the exacta and hope for a bit of a price.
