The UTSA Roadrunners will travel up I-35 to Austin, and take on the Texas Longhorns from DKR Stadium this Saturday night on the Longhorn Network. Texas will open as the 12-point favorites to win at home, with the total opening at 60.5.
This will mark the first matchup between the two lone star schools, and the start of a five-game series set to run through 2030.
UTSA Roadrunners
UTSA has brought a lot of fight early here in their eleventh season of existence. The Roadrunners nearly spoiled Houston’s season early in Week 1, and they rallied last weekend against an unusually offensive Army team on the road.
UTSA defeated Army in West Point, 41-38, coming through in the extra period and covering the 3-point spread.
Frank Harris will have a tall task this weekend, but he’s a gamer and he’ll give the Roadrunners a shot at glory. The dual-threat quarterback was one of the most dynamic players in the country last season, and he’s picked up where he left off thus far.
Harris has thrown for 696 passing yards, with six touchdowns to one interception through two games. He’s also added 93 rushing yards and a score in the ground as well.
Brendan Brady and Trelon Smith have split the touches early for the Roadrunners. Brady, one of over a handful of fifth-year seniors, led the team with 76 yards and scored twice in overtime win over Army. Smith, an Arkansas transfer, also scored last weekend from the goal line.
Harris has a great rapport with three veteran UTSA receivers. Zakhari Franklin led the team in receiving last year, and he’s got sneaky NFL potential. Franklin has caught ten passes in both games, and he scored twice in the win in West Point. Cephus, a fellow senior, also caught ten passes against the Black Knights, and he led the team in yards against Houston with 106. De’Corian Clark has caught 13 passes for 160 yards and scored in both games (3 total).
Texas Longhorns
Texas Longhorns Football is back.
Despite the final result, the entire country saw the return of a fallen program. The Longhorns nearly pulled off one of the biggest wins in school history, and one of the biggest upsets of all-time on a national stage, in Week 2.
Texas admirably lost to Alabama, 20-19, covering their generous 21-point underdog spread.
Steve Sarkisian has a decision to make at quarterback now with Quinn Ewers set to miss the next month at least. Hudson Card performed admirably against Alabama last weekend, but a bad ankle may prevent him from making the start Saturday. Redshirt freshman Charles Wright is slated to make the first start of his career if Card can’t go.
The Longhorns remain strong in the backfield with Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson returning. It’s there third year splitting touches, and both backs have eclipsed the 1,500-yard mark for their career’s, with Robinson totaling 1,127 rushing yards last season. Johnson and Robinson both scored in the opener, with freshman Jonathan Brooks scoring his first career touchdown as well. Robinson gained 111 yards from scrimmage and even brought in a touchdown catch.
2021 leading receivers Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittingham start on the outside again this season. Worthy starred against Alabama, catching five passes for 97 yards, while Whittington added seven catches for 64 yards. Sophomore Ja’Tavion Sanders was quiet against Bama, but he’s a mismatch at the tight end positon, and he caught six passes for 85 yards and a score in the opener.
Texas is going to have to lean on their ground game and defense to get the job done here.

Free Week 3 NCAA Football Pick
Believe it or not, UTSA will come into this game with the upper hand on the offensive side. Frank Harris’ ability to expand the place is going to give the Longhorns trouble, and he’s got a seasoned group of guys around him, capable of making plays upon opportunity. Texas entering this game with a first-time starter will have it’s growing pains, and while they may do enough to win the game, they won’t blow by UTSA offensively. The Longhorns hit an all-time high last week as a program, so beware of the hangover effect.
It’s hot read, but spot UTSA the points this Saturday,, and take their spread for this Lone Star state battle.
