The UCF Knights may not be anywhere near postseason contention, but that was never the goal coming into this season.
The goal was to improve upon a year that saw the program go winless, and thus far it’s done just that.

At 3-2, the Knights are proving that a new era is underway.
They have begun to turn things around under new head coach Scott Frost, and they are 13-point favorites entering Week 6 as they play host to the also-3-2 Tulane Green Wave.
Tulane Green Wave
Tulane began this season 1-2, but enters this contest on a two-game winning streak. Most recently, the program took down UMass 31-24 — before that it defeated ULL by two points, 41-39.

So far on the year, the Green Wave has proven to be a one-dimensional offense. The team is rushing for an impressive 246.6 yards per contest, which is good enough for 19th in the nation.
In terms of passing, Tulane is just 127th in the country, completing 103.2 yards per game.
Defensively, this group is a bit more balanced, but there’s still a clear chasm between the run and the pass.
Against the run, it is 48th in the nation, allowing 137.6 yards per contest. Against the pass, the numbers become more impressive: 171.4 yards per week allowed — good enough for 17th in the country.
Like UCF, Tulane is moving in the right direction and a 3-2 start should be considered a resounding success. The question now is whether or not it can exceed expectations once again in Week 6 despite being a near-two-touchdown underdog.
Central Florida Knights
Like Tulane, UCF started 1-2. Also like Tulane, this team has won its last two contests — victories over FIU and ECU, both in convincing fashion.

So far this season, there’s a clear discrepancy between the Knights’ success running the ball and passing the ball. When the ball is moving through the air, this group averages 192.4 yards par game — only good enough for 99th in the country.
Rushing, this program is good for 232 yards per contest — good enough for 25th.
Defensively, we’re looking at another gap between stopping the run and stopping the pass. Like the offense, the passing game is where the defense struggles.
UCF is just 74th in the nation in terms of defending the pass (238 yards allowed per contest), but against the run it is 25th (112.6 yards allowed per contest).

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Prediction
UCF has every right to look past an opponent like Tulane considering the fact that it already has three more wins than it has last year. Luckily for Knights fans, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Central Florida ATS
“… I’m not worried about our guys overlooking anybody,” Frost said ahead of this contest, per Shannon Green of the Orlando Sentinel. “We’re a team coming off a 0-12 season last year and we went out and had our best Monday practice ever.
That’s not the mark of a team that is gonna have a letdown so I expect tomorrow to be just as good and if our guys can keep this focus all week, we’re gonna be just fine.”
Look for Central Florida to cover on Friday night.
