Both of these teams have proved over the first six weeks of the college season that they can put points on the board. The Tigers average 47.8 points per game and the Rebels average 46.8 – 4th and 5th in the FBS respectively.
The level of competition the two teams have faced varies greatly though. The Rebels have played at Alabama and Florida and a hosted a defensive minded Vanderbilt as well.
The toughest defense the Tigers have faced so far this season has probably been South Florida. And they struggled to sneak out a 24-17 win on the road.

This Rebels team is built a little differently than teams of the past – stronger on offense and weaker on defense than they have historically been.
Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch will have a chance to outduel Ole Miss gunslinger Chad Kelly this Saturday afternoon in Memphis.
Ole Miss
The Rebels let out all sorts of frustration on poor New Mexico State last week after getting embarrassed at Florida the week before.
Ole Miss had College Football Playoff conversation stirring after winning the first four, including at Alabama, to start the season. The Rebels looked unstoppable on offense.
And then they went to Florida and completely laid an egg. The Gators moved the ball up and down the field all afternoon cruising to a 38-10 win – allowing the only Ole Miss touchdown with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Kelly and the Rebel offense picked up where they had left off before the Florida game by hanging 52 points on New Mexico State. They’ll be up against a Memphis defense that has struggled to stop anyone.
They allowed Cincinnati backup quarterback Hayden Moore to throw for 557 yards on them in a 53-46 shootout win back on September 25th.
Kelly threw for 341 against Alabama a few weeks ago so he has to be excited about a chance to face this Tiger defense.
However, the Rebels surely remember how they last performed on the road. While playing at Memphis is nothing like playing at the Swamp, the Rebels will have to perform better in a road environment if they want to survive this SEC season.
Memphis is off to an undefeated start and has high hopes for postseason possibilities so you can bet that the stadium will be packed. If the crowd gets into this one and the Tigers move the ball early on, the Rebels could find themselves in an old-fashioned shootout.
Memphis
Normally, this could be a trap game on Ole Miss’s schedule. But, after Memphis has jumped off to a 5-0 start the Rebels are likely not overlooking them.
Lynch and the Memphis offense are coming off of a bye following a mediocre offensive performance by their standards against South Florida.
The Tigers offense hadn’t seen much resistance prior to the game against South Florida. They hadn’t faced any tough opponents but they are no stranger to power conference competition.
Last year, the Tigers went 10-3 including a bowl win over BYU but their losses were at UCLA, at Ole Miss, and Houston. The 24-3 loss at Ole Miss certainly has revenge on the mind of the Tigers but Lynch has to be most anxious to make up for his 5.1 QBR at Ole Miss last season.

Lynch certainly is a better quarterback than that as he has proved through Memphis’s first five games. But, it won’t mean much if he can’t perform against big time competition.
Beating South Florida and Cincinnati is not that impressive no matter how well he played. If he can perform against Ole Miss, that will catch people’s attention.
Memphis will need his A game if they want to keep up with the Rebels.

Free Week 7 NCAA Football Prediction
Lynch absolutely has to protect the football – as he has done all year – if Memphis wants to keep up with Kelly and the Rebel offense. The Rebels will turn a short field into points as they have done so well all season long.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Memphis +10.5
Lynch and Kelly will go back and forth all afternoon as the Tigers will keep this one close. They’ll need some Ole Miss blunders to find a way to win.
