this Saturday night is a big Mountain West Conference match up, as both San Jose State and New Mexico need a win to keep their bowl chances alive. The Spartans were blown out in their last game and they have lost 2 of their last 3 games and New Mexico is coming off a win and the Lobos have won 3 of their last 4 games.
After this game New Mexico has a tough remaining rest of the season having to face Utah State, who is 3-0 in the Mountain Division, and Boise State and Air Force, who are along with UNM at 2-1 in division play.

These teams have not met since the 2006 season.
In their last games San Jose State lost to San Diego State 30-7 while New Mexico beat Hawaii 28-27 needing a TD with less than a minute left in the game.
San Jose State is 2-1 at home this season and New Mexico is 1-2 on the road.
New Mexico
The Lobos are, pretty much, all about the run, as they rank 12th in the nation in rushing yards per game and only 122nd in passing yards per game.
The UNM RB duo of Teriyon Gipson and Jhurell Pressley combined for 150 rushing yards.
In the Hawaii game the Lobos had a legit passing offense with Lamar Jordan and
Austin Apodaca combining to pass for 195 yards and each threw a TD. Jordan is a duel threat QB, who leads the Lobos in rushing yards, but did not run the ball well in the win over Hawaii.
The big match up in this game may be the Lobos ground attack going against a Spartans run defense that only ranks 116th in the nation out of 127 FBS teams.

In the loss to SDSU San Jose State gave up 233 rushing yards.
San Jose State
The Spartans have to forget about the loss to SDSU where their offense was stymied where they only had 148 total yards of offense and they committed 2 turnovers.
While San Jose State does not have a dynamic offense they are a well-balanced one. QB Kenny Potter threw 2 INT in the loss to SDSU and he has to avoid the turnover in this game.
The big gun for the San Jose offense is RB Tyler Ervin, who has nearly 900 rushing yards this season with 11 TD. He has 4 games of over 100 yards including a 300-yard rushing performance against Fresno State.
In the SDSU game he really struggled with only 22 yards on 17 carries averaging a paltry 1.3 yards per carry.
New Mexico ranks 60th in the nation in defending the pass and 95th in defending the run, so expect Ervin to get a lot of carries in this conference game.

New Mexico will win this game mainly because they have a great rushing offense while the Spartans have a poor rushing defense.
