Tigers Stats
LSU has scored 252 points through six games, averaging 42 per contest. The Tigers have accumulated 1,866 passing yards and 1,283 rushing yards. Their offense has been productive through both phases of the game.
Dilin Jones leads the rushing attack with 483 yards and five TD’s. He has also caught 18 passes for 132 yards.
Jones gives LSU a dependable option when opponents concentrate on defending the pass.
LSU’s offensive production is impressive, but its ability to limit opposing rushing attacks is equally important Saturday.
The Tigers have allowed 111 points, fewer than 19 per game. LSU’s defense has been particularly effective against the run, surrendering approximately 75 rushing yards per contest.
Phillip Wright III and Trey’Dez Green remain unavailable, reducing LSU’s receiving depth. Linebacker Whit Weeks and safety Dashawn Spears are also out.
Those defensive absences create challenges for the Tigers’ rotation. LSU needs its available linebackers to maintain gap discipline against Mississippi State’s running game. Keeping the Bulldogs behind schedule will be important.
Bulldogs Stats
Mississippi State has scored 195 points through five games, averaging 39 per contest. The Bulldogs have generated 1,546 passing yards and 889 rushing yards. Lebby’s offense has shown it can produce points against SEC competition.
Anthony Evans III leads the receivers with 574 yards and five TD’s. His ability to stretch coverage makes him an important part of Mississippi State’s passing attack.
Evans gives the Bulldogs a dangerous target when defenses commit extra players near the line.
Fluff Bothwell leads the rushing attack with 403 yards and three TD’s. He is questionable after leaving the Alabama game early.
Defensively, Mississippi State has allowed 140 points and recorded 13 sacks. The Bulldogs have struggled to prevent opponents from generating explosive plays.
Defensive lineman Trevion Williams is out for the season with a leg injury. Linebacker Jalen Smith is also unavailable, further reducing the defense’s depth. Mississippi State needs its remaining front-seven players to handle LSU’s balanced attack.
Bulldogs vs. Tigers QB Matchup
LSU QB Sam Leavitt has thrown for 1,495 yards through six games. He has 10 TD passes and eight interceptions. His turnover total remains a concern despite the Tigers’ offensive production.
Leavitt has attempted 173 passes this season. He has also contributed 259 rushing yards, giving LSU another option when protection breaks down.
LSU needs him to make better decisions against pressure.
Backup Landen Clark has attempted 31 passes for 235 yards. He has one TD pass in limited action.
Mississippi State QB Kamario Taylor has thrown for 1,450 yards through five games. He has 17 TD passes against four interceptions. His ability to create explosive plays has been central to the Bulldogs’ offensive success.
Taylor has completed 102 of 154 passes this season. He is questionable with a leg injury suffered against Alabama.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
Jeff Lebby has not committed to Taylor’s availability for Saturday.
Parker Puckett has completed eight of 14 passes for 89 yards without a TD or interception. AJ Swann is another option if Taylor cannot start.
Leavitt enters with a more settled quarterback situation, although his interception total is a concern. Mississippi State may need to adjust its passing attack depending on Taylor’s mobility and availability. Both coaching staffs face important decisions about protecting their quarterbacks.
Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. LSU Tigers bottom line: LSU has the stronger defensive front and home-field advantage, while Mississippi State’s quarterback situation could determine whether the Bulldogs can sustain their offensive production.

- The Tigers excel straight up at home, winning 26 of their last 28 games.

Bulldogs Tigers Free Pick: LSU -14
Here is my Bulldogs Tigers free pick: I’m laying LSU -14. Two touchdowns is a serious number against a ranked SEC opponent, but Mississippi State’s offensive injury situation changes the equation. LSU has the defensive personnel to make those problems expensive. My biggest concern with the Tigers is Leavitt giving away possessions. LSU cannot afford careless interceptions that hand Mississippi State short fields, especially when the Bulldogs have enough offensive talent to punish mistakes.
That is the one way LSU can turn a favorable matchup into a four-quarter headache.
I’m backing LSU’s defensive advantage to produce the separation needed to cover two touchdowns.
Mississippi State has to protect its QB, establish the run and keep LSU from dictating passing situations. That’s a demanding assignment in Baton Rouge, particularly if Taylor or Bothwell are limited.
The Tigers also have to finish drives rather than settle for FG’s.
I expect LSU to take control by forcing Miss. State into uncomfortable 3rd downs and making the Bulldogs chase the game. That is where the defensive mismatch becomes a scoreboard problem, not merely a statistical advantage.
LSU -14 is my SEC play, with the Tigers pulling away after halftime.
