This Big 12 game features a Kansas St team looking to get closer to bowl eligibility, and an Iowa St. team struggling to find a rhythm.
Kansas St. is coming off a big win over the Longhorns, and Iowa St. comes in off of their bye riding a 3 game losing streak.
Kansas St. Wildcats
With the development of spread offenses over the last decade we are seeing more dual threat quarterbacks at schools not known for innovative offenses.

Jesse Ertz is one of the more exciting QB’s in the big 12 to watch, even though he plays in a simplistic offense.
Last week against a badly coached Texas defense he threw for 171 yards, but also picked up 78 yards rushing and two scores on 18 carries.
This week facing one of the worst teams in the country it wouldn’t be out of the question to see him throw for 200 and rush for 150 with 4 scores.
After being shut down by Oklahoma the week before, running back Charles Jones bounced back against the Texas defense.
He ran the ball 12 times for 81 yards and had 2 catches for 14 yards. For the season he is averaging 5.7 yards per touch. If he gets the ball 20+ times this week expect him to reach 150 total yards.
Although he wasn’t given much opportunity against the Longhorns secondary, Dominique Heath is a game-breaker for the Iowa St. offense. I expect him to have a long play over 50 yards in this one, and score 2 touchdowns.

Kansas State’s defense will have a good game one week, then a bad one the next week. This game they face an average quarterback and a team that likes to evenly distribute run and passing plays.
If they can stop the running game, which they couldn’t do last week against the Longhorns, Kansas State’s defense shouldn’t have a problem in this one.
Iowa St. Cyclones
Iowa St. football hasn’t been relevant since Seneca Wallace suited up for the Cyclones. This season is no defense as they will surely have another losing season as the roster talent just isn’t there.
In the Week 7 loss to Texas, QB Joel Lanning threw for only 140 yards and was sacked 5 times.
If the Cyclones have any shot at the upset this week he will need to have time to throw the ball, and also utilize his running skills to keep plays alive.
During the midpoint of the season running back Mike Warren had a strong 3 game stretch, but the last two weeks he has been shut down by the opposing defenses.
This week against a Kansas St. front seven known for toughness under head coach Bill Snyder, look for him to have a bad performance and not reach 75 total yards.

In its 6 losses this season, the Cyclones defense is giving up 36 points per game.
Facing a quarterback as talented as Jesse Ertz the defense will need to play at its best to have any chance at pulling the upset.
I don’t see that happening this week and it will be over by the third quarter as the defense will give up a ton of points in the red-zone.
