Wildcats Stats
Northwestern has scored 269 points through eight games, averaging 33.6 per contest. The Wildcats have generated 1,619 rushing yards and 1,898 passing yards.
The offense averages nearly 440 total yards per game.
Caleb Komolafe leads the ground attack with 618 rushing yards and five TD. His production gives Northwestern a dependable option when it needs tough yards.
Griffin Wilde leads the receiving corps with 761 yards and five TD. He provides a dangerous downfield target and helps prevent defenses from crowding the line.
Northwestern has allowed 150 points, averaging 18.8 per game. The defense has recorded eight interceptions and five fumble recoveries.
Creating turnovers has been an important part of the Wildcats’ success.
The Wildcats have also recorded 13 sacks. Their pass rush will need to produce pressure without giving Iowa easy opportunities to extend drives.
Chris Petrucci and Robert Fitzgerald have dealt with injury concerns. Ezomo Oratokhai is sidelined for the season, leaving Northwestern with depth concerns up front.
Hawkeyes Stats
Iowa has scored 226 points, averaging 28.3 per contest. The Hawkeyes have produced 1,675 passing yards and 1,401 rushing yards.
The offense remains most comfortable establishing the run. That approach helps Iowa control field position and avoid unnecessary mistakes.
Kamari Moulton leads the team with 541 rushing yards and four TD.
Moulton will miss the rest of the season with an upper-body injury. Xavier Williams has moved into a larger role, with additional backfield help available.
Iowa has allowed just 100 points, averaging 12.5 per game. The defense has recorded 24 sacks and six interceptions.
Iowa’s defense has carried its share of the workload, and occasionally somebody else’s share too.
The Hawkeyes have been particularly effective against opposing rushing attacks. Their front seven rarely allows opponents to establish comfortable running lanes.
Brevin Doll and Kyler Gerardy have also dealt with injuries. Gerardy has been listed out for the season, while Doll’s availability requires monitoring.
Hawkeyes vs. Wildcats QB Matchup
Aidan Chiles leads Northwestern with 1,898 passing yards and 13 TD through eight games. He’s completed 139 of 202 attempts with only one interception.
Chiles averages 237.3 passing yards per game. His improved ball security has been a major factor in Northwestern’s offensive success.
The Wildcats quarterback also presents a running threat.
Against Oregon, Chiles passed for 281 yards and rushed for another 93. His ability to extend plays gives opposing defenses another problem to solve.
Chiles has become more comfortable directing the offense. His decision-making will be tested by Iowa’s disciplined coverage and pressure packages.
Hank Brown leads Iowa with 1,190 passing yards and eight TD. He’s completed 109 of 169 attempts with three interceptions.
Brown returned to the starting role against Wisconsin after an earlier shoulder injury. His performance helped Iowa regain some offensive stability.
The Hawkeyes quarterback completed 20 of 24 passes for 222 yards and two TD against the Badgers. That was an encouraging performance heading into another important conference matchup.

Brown has shown he can produce when Iowa opens its passing attack. His biggest challenge will be maintaining that efficiency against a Northwestern defense capable of creating takeaways.
Chiles offers greater mobility and passing volume, while Brown operates within a more controlled offensive approach. Both quarterbacks face defenses capable of turning one careless decision into a major momentum swing.
Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Northwestern Wildcats bottom line: Iowa’s defensive discipline will test Northwestern’s offensive balance, while Brown must keep the Hawkeyes productive against a Wildcats team that’s been difficult to beat at home.
Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Northwestern Wildcats Football Betting Trends
- The Hawkeyes are 5-1 against the spread as underdogs in their last 6 games.
- Iowa has a 6-1 record against the spread in away games over the last two seasons.
- Also, the Wildcats have a perfect 11-0 straight-up record as favorites in their last 11 games.
- Northwestern is 6-0 straight-up in their last 6 home games.
- Additionally, the total has gone over in 11 of Northwestern’s last 14 games after a loss.
- The total has gone over in 8 of the Wildcats’ last 13 games overall.
Hawkeyes Wildcats Free Pick: Over 45.5
Here is my Hawkeyes Wildcats free pick: I’m playing Over 45.5. Iowa has the defensive reputation, but Northwestern has enough offensive balance to make this more than a field-position contest. The number doesn’t require either team to put up 35 points.
Northwestern has gone over in six of eight games this season, while Iowa has stayed under in six of eight. That’s a legitimate warning, but I’m more interested in how this particular matchup can develop.
I’m betting Northwestern forces Iowa to answer touchdowns instead of letting the Hawkeyes spend four quarters protecting field position.
The biggest danger is an early stretch of punts that drains the clock. Iowa can make that happen, and I won’t pretend otherwise.
But Northwestern’s ability to score in different ways gives this game a chance to open up. If the Wildcats establish an early lead, Iowa won’t have the luxury of playing conservatively.
A 27-20 finish gets us home, and that’s hardly asking for a Big Ten track meet. I’m taking Over 45.5.
